off to Majorca (Alcudia) end July/August
Will it be too hot for any particularly strenuous biking?
Hotel is just round the corned from the Chainguide place so quite fancy the opportunity to slip away from the family for a day

Lakes is quicker to get to from East Mids than CyB (Derby based here)
But if CyB break journey with Degla, Penmachno or Marin trail on way there (my vote would go to Penmachno)

These little, camping pods are a great, isolated and really cheap place to stay 5 minutes from CyB

    surely the answer is simple
Put the bike in the hire car and make the kids and wife get a bus ;)

Everyone keeps harping on about Isla resale values as a reason to dismiss Frog but Frog bikes are IMO equally as good so as soon as they build up a similar reputation, which isn’t taking long on current evidence, their resale values will likely be on a par with Islabikes
I bought a 16″ Frog for my daughter over an Isla, I’ve not regretted it it’s a great little bike

Don’t think it’s a rear spacer required as it starts off tight and wobble free then loosens after about 20 miles
If it was a spacer or lock ring not gripping would it not be loose from the off?

None in hub (although bought 2nd hand they are effectively new, and I’ve put 90 miles on them)

    Thread is A1

Yes, (although never felt the need to use the recommended 50Nm before and never had a similar problem
After it came loose first time I made sure to do it more accurately than the ‘tight and a quarter turn’ method this time and as I said the lockring was still as tight when I checked just now as it was when I tightened it, but the cassette behind it was all wobbly)

No (and cassette only just fits on freehub, when fitting smallest cog sits slightly proud until lockring is tightened)

I’d imagine it’s stable enough with one child front and back when you get going, issue will be getting both kids into respective seats then getting yourself in a position to start riding, doable with practise but I wouldn’t fancy the risk of dropping the bike with both kids on board trying to get a leg over

As well as a TrailGator look at a TrailAngel, this is the one I went for it seemed a bit more secure I’ve used it on gentle offroad with no issues (just raise the front wheel of kids bike up a bit more) although I’m not sure how it would handle something like GT blue with berms and ‘whoops’ (as my daughter calls rollable jumps). It will always be a compromise compared to a proper tagalong
The only ”attached bike’ that probably does the job properly and is any good offroad is a Follow Me tandem, they are big € bit I’ve never heard a bad review and as often with these things you will get most of your investment back when you finally sell it on

Having had a Weeride seat before which was excellent and finding the TrailAngel isn’t ideal to fold up onto my bike when my daughter is going under her own steam (it wobbles around and rubs the tyre when folded) I like the look of the Weeride Co-pilot tagalong

    Another ex Grand Design here.

    Pow

Cheaper, whackier and better for the shops.

I remember that episode (remember the Peel hose one too) the bloke doing it was I recall a bit of a tit (as they often are)

It’s not aged particularly well has it, inside or out, didn’t like the roof (from inside) when it was on TV like it even less now the rest of the house isn’t so ‘dressed’ for the cameras

The Peel House I remember wanting to stay in (until I saw the prices)

I bought one, was very impressed with the quality, fit was good, never used it in anger but it seemed well vented, large removable pad and insect mesh was a great idea
I decided I shouldn’t have got the white one though and that it looked a bit ‘mushroomy’ on my head so sold it before using

(After a Warner commentary “his arse must have opened wider than a hippos yawn after that”)

    Ratboy
    Greenland
    Mick Hannah
    Hill
    Manon

Might change before it kicks off though, not sure on Hannah and Greenland might be a risk

They will be fine locked in a car, there is always a few people tinkering with their enduro rigs in the car park all day long. Way too many people around for someone to risk breaking into a car
Overnight in a hotel car park however….personally I wouldn’t risk it, but that extends to anywhere not just Merthyr

Just got a Firestick on Saturday nad installed Kodi and ‘The Beast’ build no problems, took about 2 hours following guides on internet (and Im not really very good at these things)
seems good so far, watched the GP live and started on Season 2 of Better Call Saul last night
GP picture was not HD standard but still very good and only buffered twice
Tales some exploring and navigating round though to find stuff in all the different streams
The Firestick is worth it even without Kodi on, so much better than my old Chromecast

I wouldn’t bother putting a dropper on that old Cannondale, no

cant get link to work but its Osmaston Road/Shaftsbury Street junction in Derby if anyone wants to view on google maps

    iain1775
    Free Member

this is the cycle lane and junction in the original article

I would imagine, knowing that road very well that the lorry overtook the cyclist as he was entering the cyclelane just before turning in the junction at ‘Morleys’
It is an unbelievably badly planned cycle lane, that puts the cyclist in danger the minute they enter.

    Speak to Darren
Search the forum, plenty of threads and recommendations for them, personally in my 2nd year with their cover, first time (in 20 years) I have just renewed without feeling the need to investigate alternatives or negotiate price

Definitely spend time in the Square and Compass
    Great pub
And go see Charlie in Swanage

Loads of great varied riding in Purbeck one of my favourite places to ride, the stuff around Studland Heath is really nice
We usually have a cheap ‘£10 tokens from local paper’ caravan holiday down that way, not down there this year, going to South Wales instead

Here you go, straight from the doorstep – http://singletrackworld.com/trailguide/files/2008/12/isle-of-purbeck-big-route.pdf

I am thinking the same, I have found a company that will service and repair for £55, which sounds brilliant although almost too good to be true.

My local ‘man in garage fixing bikes’ type business Belper Bikes charges £50 for a reverb service, he did mine that had the same dropping an inch issue, including replacing most of the seals for £54 (he needed a few more seals than if it was a standard service
It is honestly, after a good few rides on it, better than it was from new, there is zero play at all

So no reason why £50 should be too good to be true

Had mine done at Apple store Meadowhall and it was an hour turnaround so quick wander around shops and all sorted and it was my phone that they gave me back with new screen in

Snap same experience here, also at Meadowhall. You have to book a Genius Bar appointment in advance though, and stick to the time, just pop in your unlikely to get it done whilst you wait
Also went in just before Xmas with a water damaged phone, he went out back to check it out came back and said “yes it’s f*cked but the moisture sensors haven’t all tripped and it’s Christmas so here’s a brand new one under warranty”

BPW staff (most of them at least) are mega unhelpful.
Trails aren’t worth it for the vile commercialism of the place.
I know a lot of other people have all sorts of other gripes about the place as well.
Thankfully, I’m moving to Scotland next month and couldn’t be happier about that!

Wow what a grumpy over reaction

That used to be the leopard print one in the Cookie Club. At one time, it’d stick to your feet and come up an inch or so with each step

I used to work the bar / coakroom / collecting glasses at the Cookie Club (when it was on Pelham Street) although work is a very loose term, spent most of the nights getting paid (about £10 a night) to chat to my mates and be on the dancefloor
The manager at the time was into his mountain biking

The copies are getting better though.
The SJcam SJ5000X WIFI ELITE is around £89

Don’t get the 5000 go for the 4000+wifi instead, the 5000 was dogged with issues and I think they have abandoned firmware updates for it now

My 4000+ is spot on, I had to update it to version 13 or above of the firmware to enable the gyro stabilisation and image rotation but that was easy enough to do

First generation pedals were affected. Suspect they’d be replaced under warranty even if out of warranty technically.

I tried this when mine went 5 weeks out of warranty
Madison wouldn’t have anything of it, denied there was even a ‘known issue’
Even after I sent an email with over 10 links to different worldwide forum threads all discussing it they still refused to do anything
At one point they even tried to tell me left hand axles where not available to buy separately, only right hand ones!!

I ended up buying some 2nd hand XT pedals

OP which pedal is affected left or right?
I might have a spare pedal if it was the opposite to my failed one

tarmac the road and they would have to cancel alot more days in the winter due to the vans not being able to get up it due to patches of ice
Also not feasible at is, I presume, still also a working forest road so there will occasionally be some heavy, possibly tracked, machinery going up it

Blue Belle is the only trail I wouldn’t bother with
Melted Welly also has that annoying uphill pedally section that ruins the flow

    iain1775

I’d like any kind of surface on parts of my local canal route, it used to be a reliable all weather evening ride but these last couple of years sections of it have been severely rutted and several inches deep in mud
Tarmac wouldn’t be my first choice for the reasons outlined above by ninfan

    Can you drive?
    Hire a car
It’s a relatively easy drive (at least compared to the 9 hours straight we did from the UK last year) and plenty of free parking around Alp d’Huez

Nottingham is probably one of the worst places in the country to live with a mountain bike but not a car.

    I wouldnt go that far
Anywhere further east of Nottingham is alot worse, from Lincoln across to Norwich to name just one area. Leicester isn’t much cop either without a car (and its further from the Peaks)
I’d actually say after cities like Edinburgh, Sheffield, Bristol, Shrewsbury, Cardiff/Swansea area etc Nottingham is a pretty decent base for a mountain biker, a car makes it easier but without a car Nottingham is well served by bridleways and old canals/railways converted into cycle paths, they do at least allow plenty of traffic free cycling to link together the small more technical (but still not very technical) bits there is. Hence my CX suggestion, my CX is probably my most used bike if I’m out from the doorstep
