Motion X GPS Lite is free
The North Face Trailhead (free) is worth downloading
    IMapMyRide

if you have Memory map on your computer then the Memory map app is worth £19.99 as you can transfer your OS mapping to your phone under the same license

dont know about Avid but I tried similar with Hope tech levers and Formula matchmaker style clamps – didnt work because the hole spacing was very slightly out, which I probably could have got round but also a different size bolt – the Hope one was bigger. there was no way I could see to botch them together
I suspect strongly Avid will have similar issues

I ended up swopping my Formula matchmaker clamps with some plain X9 shifter brackets through this forum and now run seperate clamps for brake / shifter again (The hope matchmaker clamps where out of stock everywhere at the time but also quite expensive)

heres a hypothetical question for you, if I now used CRC, knowing about this risk and having contributed to this thread and I suffered fraud on the card as a result, when Im speaking with my bank to sort it and if I mention this thread could there then be an issue because technically I knew about it before placing the order so put the card at risk myself?

I need some XTR compatable Middleburn chainrings and CRC is by far the cheapest but I don’t fancy risking them at the moment

what are the dropouts you have on order – 12mm bolt through or specific Maxle ones (with the thread for the maxle to screw into)?
That may answer the question for you
If maxle then I would just stick to the normal one at that price to be honest
(edit – I dont think that UK Bikestore link is for the full Maxle, just the replacement internals – the wedge etc)

    Quirrel –

This was when I first did it, now has a shorter, higher stem to get drops in a better position. Doesnt maybe look the best but it does me for the commute to work, but next week its going back to an MTB either with the Pace rigid forks or Fox F80’s not sure which yet

well I said it 11 months ago and I’ll say it again quite happily
He is a top bloke and has a good product
My bearings are still going strong nearly a year later
The 2nd set he supplied to my brother in law are good too, both arrived within a couple of days of not paying 🙂
Helpful bloke too and some good craic over the email
Its nice to deal with little garden shed companies that have time for their customers and are passionate about what they do. I ve had to parcels from other such places arrive today, both with nice hand written delivery notes and both within 48hours of placing orders. All good by me, especially as its a sunny day 😀

head up over the moors from Llandegla to Worlds End and the Horseshoe Pass
Just because you park where there is a cafe, dosent mean you have to stay within the confines of the forest
There is miles of good hiking to be had around that area, anyone who says its not even rambling is talking rubbish. Offas Dyke long distance footpath passes through the forest, it may not have scenery to rival the lakes but there is definatley no need to go to Whinlatter for a decent walk (Im assuming you suggested Llandegla as its reasonably local)
Part of the Offas Dyke route can be done on the bikes too, its a bridleway boardwalk of railway sleepers type construction, kind of northshore esque in a way. To make it into a loop is cheeky though as strictly its a footpath past the radio masts so I wouldnt condone it (especially at the moment as lots of ground breeding birds that could get disturbed)

If instead of parking at llandegla you parked at Worlds End (the ‘P’ here) – http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=323250&y=348405&z=120&sv=323250,348405&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=820&ax=323250&ay=348405&lm=0

walkers have a choice of places to go, bikers can take the bridleway just to the north, into the forest (across previously mentioned raised boardwalk section) pick up the red route three quarters the way up the first fireroad climb, and easily retrace tyre tracks to meet back at the car

I have the one of the first imported into the UK. A 1995/6 (I think) steel Hoodoo, still handbuilt in USA back then, I like to think by Joe jimself 8)
Lovely bike, currently use it as my commuter (with drop bars and road chainset fitted) but am converting back to MTB duties at the moment and considering having disc tabs retro fitted (possibly by Mercian framebuilders in Derby) and a respray.
Been going strong for all those years, started rigid and cantilever brakes, has had Magura rim brakes and Vee’s, 140 forks on it and everything in between, it seems to work whatever I do to it
Sadly Voodoo been vastly under-rated for years since sold at Halfords, but nice adaptable designs and good value, unfortunately the best frames never seem to see UK shores unless privately imported

Fueled – you have a bike shop in your kitchen. Or is it a kitchen in your bike shop?

The no bracket look – Drill, rawlplugs, screws, stans sealant
Might get messy in a kitchen though

I’ve had card fraud tracked back to both amazon and a shell petrol station in the past
Both times it was known to mbna, I wasn’t the first
No idea in this case if there is genuine Crc link but thought I’d best just warn people in case I know alot of people got a voucher and used Crc last wrk so could be concerned

Coke is very acidic… will disolve a tooth in a day or two. Motorway pigs keep some in the back of their cars for cleaning up RTA’s.

well that explains why the shut the motorways for 8 hours following a 2 car minor shunt

Churnet Valley, Dinningsdale isnt that far if you have a car, other than that Osmaston Park has some double track, or head towards Derby or Belper, do a lap of Carsington or head up Tissington Trail to pick up stuff further north
The immediate vicinity is a bit devoid of anything interesting

pardon my ignorance but is IAM = Institute of Audi Motorists ?

those drivers that know best and are the best drivers on the road, so good they can do anything they like and good enough to have a lane on the motorway reserved exclusely for their use? 😆

Well the same way that they don’t hand out tickets at supermarket checkouts, at petrols stations or anywhere else where there’s a queue. It’s what nice people do.

dont get me started on petrol stations molgrips I bet your the sort of person that sits in the entrance waiting for the pump with the hose on the correct side, ignoring all the empty pumps and blocking the car behind from getting to them, that then has to wait almost jutting back into the road
The hoses do generally stretch to both sides you know 😉

Aracer – when I said non existant I meant the gap that was reducing because I was already slowing from 70 to 50 to match the speed of the lorry and had timed my deceleration so I reached the junction just before having to brake due to the lorry (as was tought to me when I did an advanced driving courses initiated by my employer) My bad turn of phrase I suppose saying non existant gap – I was not up the ar$e of the lorry, what i meant was that I felt the gap that was there was suitable for me, and I was I feel driving correctly just didnt anticipate a van coming past at 90mph+ and slamming down to 50 to try and get into that gap

it does probably echo the OP though and what i said earlier, we all have differing levels of comfort when driving and one persons gap is another persons space

I see this a lot where people have made mistakes, perhaps daydreaming on the motorway and realised that they’re about to miss their turn

I had this last night on the A50. Had driven for nearly 6 hours all the way from mid Scotland nicely sat at 70 most of the way then a mile from home approaching the turn off there is a lorry ahead so I pull in nice and early and sit behind the lorry, white van man comes hurtling alongside, realises at very last minute (50 yards probably) he cant get ahead of the lorry and still make the exit so gets his nose infront of me and swerves across into the non existant gap between me and lorry, hard on his brakes at the same time
I had no option but go into the back of him or swerve into the outside lane, which I managed to do, before getting back (across the hatchings by this point)to make the exit
By the end of the sliproad he is behind me again right up my rear flashing his lights and alternatevely flashing his fogs as if trying to mimic the lights on a police van
I just ignored him but he followed me all the way home an inch from my bumper
Wouldnt have minded but the route he went he could have taken the next exit off the A50 onto the A38 and got to the same place, probably quicker I guess though he was for some reason just looking to pick a fight with someone
Wasnt really what I needed after a tiring 6 hour drive

    is this still running?
While youve all been sat here in a queue talking about this Ive sped round and read 10 other threads, bought 2 sets of Fox forks, and a load of drivetrain stuff off the classifieds and nearly bought a frame
    Now that is irresponsible behaviour!

Some drivers have more confidence than others, some are very nervous, everyone feels a different speed is appropriate, we all read situations differently and most of all we all to some degree turn into selfish demons when inside the protection of a tin can and get very defensive over a particular bit of tarmac
Its human nature, its not good but accept that if you try to encroach on someone elses space, or do something that makes someone else think thats waht your doing when in a car situation you are likely to pee them off in some way. So move on (safely)

£3.5k sounds a bit low for funding your own car when you reduce that by the tax you will pay, you looking at £250max maybe less a month factor in any rules on car being under a certain age the company may have (may not but all Ive worked for before do)
Fully comp business milage insurance needed etc
Mind you you save train fare and your tax code will be less than the company car option
whats the fuel situation, would you get business milage allowance as well etc?
