Chuckling away to myself at the moment about their new advert (currently on facebook but I assume it will be in press shortly)
Lots of photos of riders (they asked facebook fans to send in pics to be featured) with the tagline “more than just our customers”
Unfortunate choice of words and timing on that one!!

but I have one of these bolted to the side of the shed and its great, been left out in all weathers and it still works fine – http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=10228

(edit thats exactly as linked to on the NZ bike shop site above. I can recommend it highly, very solid)

I got a Shimano inner now from Rose for £19.90 so no worries, I will leave the outer as it is for now as I rarely use it
Cant find the 22t tooth inners in UK online shops, but Rose significantly cheaper anyway

Ok Damo based on reports on here but if you google Crc credit card fraud you will find cases in new Zealand France Spain Finland and all around the world I bet they haven’t posted here you can do calculations based on so many assptions but they neither prove or disprove anything unfortunately I believe cases reported here are only the tip of a much bigger iceberg and like others have said if Crc don’t yet know the source no one can guess on numbers affected

I think mark should change his tag from resident grumpy to resident detective
What do the numbers matter like I said earlier 1 or 1,000 people affected I would hope Crc would treat it the same and investigate fully anyway a security breach is a breach no matter how many people are affected

I still think it’s a reasonable question to ask… Are there victims of O2 Prepay fraud on this forum who have NOT used CRC?

Quite probably, but it proves nothing other than that is a recognised way to test validity of scammed card details
Not ALL credit card fraud originates at CRC, but in this instance the weight of evidence far outweighs any doubt that may have been in my mind when I started this thread a week ago
I dont think we need to go round gathering evidence for or against, there is enough of that already, be it circumstantial or not (and some isnt as if people are to be believed its the only time the card has been used)and besides thats the job of the CC companies, CRC and the external auditor
All we want is some reassurance as to what CRC are doing to investiagte and prevent further occurances, and if it is yet safe to use their shop
Surely publishing such a statement is now in their best interests. this has gone too far for them to bury their head in the sand

your right to be reluctant Mark
Sorry but if it is possible to randomly pick credit card numbers and manage to ‘randomly’ pick so many correct that all ‘happen’ to belong to not just cyclists but cyclists that use CRC and frequent this and other forums then personally I would be using the same techniques to predict next weeks lottery numbers rather than scam card information
It would be far more productive!
The odds for what you are possibly suggesting are astronomical
Face facts, one of your main advertisers is the subject of a credit card scam. That cannot be disputed deflected or defended, no matter what revenue they throw at you via advertising

I’ve lost faith in CRC now, despite not having been done (yet) the more you try to deflect this away from them the closer I am coming to loosing faith in STW as well – Your in contact with them, I suggest you urge them to issue a further statement to your readers and their customers

yep does the job, comes with 2 faceplates, is cheap, looks good
    I would also recommend a Pro FRS – http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Pro-FRS-Alloy-Stem_30056.htm
Have both, of the two I prefer the Pro, seems better finished and tidier, nicely rounded shape around the steerer clamp bolts

So the comments from Crc management saying they are investigating and asking affected people to contact them earlier in the thead don’t count for anything then?
You did read all 11 pages before commenting I presume?

    iain1775

There was me reading the CRC credit card thread and someones comment ‘why hasn’t this made the news there must be hundreds affected’ and thinking how can someone be so small minded with everything else going on. Then I read this and all it’s done is confirm my earlier thoughts that some people really do need to wake up and see the bigger picture. Events in japan are tragic on a scale you can’t fathom living on an island that is unlikely to ever know such natural tragedy. Yes it will affect the entire world in many ways and there will sadly be alot of ‘cashing in’ but let’s remember the 10’s if not 100’s of thousand people killed, who have lost numerous loved ones or been left with nothing
The fact the I may have to pay a little more for some goods is kind of insignificant at the moment

I dont think thats really a very fair comment about the classifieds, there are plenty of people still selling / getting rid at fair prices
Just last week I got a free Stumpjumper frame from ‘midlifecrisis’ and yesterday some Fox forks at a reasonable price (below ebay rates) from ‘sssimon’ and Im waiting for almost half a bike build to turn up taht was also very cheap
And in the last week people have had stuff from me for free or just covering postage – disc brake calipers, bottom bracket spacers etc
so big up and thanks to those people

If I sell stuff here I usually check completed listings on ebay to get an idea of value then reduce it by a little to take into consideration the fees I would incur anyway if I used ebay. I would rather that small amount of money is saved by someone here than going into the already swollen ebay/paypal coffers but at same time if Im selling something its because I need the money so of course Im going to want to make a little

Swop shop could work though, there is a few bits and pieces I need and I have stuff to swop, I’ll do a list of needs and swops later

    limited in Perth, Scotland
otherwise been reasonable anywhere else Ive been, not up there with Orange or Vodafone but as good as o2 I would say

Its passable is probably the best way I would describe it. I only went with them as they where cheapest for an iphone, and if I have no signal I can always use my work mobile anyway (Orange)

You dont need BT line rental – I pay my line rental to Sky I have no bills from BT at all
It still works out cheaper as I think if you do that you get another £5 off the broadband cost, so the basic package is free
13 months ago now Sky called offering me a free upgrade for 6 months to the next BBand package up, thus removing the 2gb limit
Its still there, they havent charged me for it in over a year

every few months I phone up and threaten to cancel, I normally walk away with free TV for 6 months, or Sky Sports free for 6 months or some similar sweetener. I have no intention of cancelling, but its a fun game to play with them

My sister was asked out by Thom Yorke and turned him down

I gave Mark Thomas a lift to Glastonbury on an off chance and ended up getting heavily involved with his campaign against Balfour Beatty

I work for Balfour Beatty so have a tenuous link to both Yossarian, Thom Yorke and Mark Thomas

I replyed to a thread last week about a Ragley Troof and the OP’s sister’s, brothers, cousins, third nephew twice removed (or something) knew Brant Richards from school (or somewhere)
There is now a special bond between us. I look forward to recieving free Ragleys for life (that’ll be one then the way I ride, and he can keep the 8″ forks)

its alright for these journos like Mark though innit, they dont have to get their credit cards out to CRC, they get their stuff free on a Friday 😉
    (I am joking Mark)

Seriously though it would seem there is an issue – CRC have said as much on the other thread now, where the issue is or how it happened we maybe dont know, but is that important (and does speculating about it really get us anywhere)? I started the other thread to make people aware when it all seemed to be kicking off elsewhere, how many people that read it may not have been any the wiser if they hadnt seen it and the fraud (wherever it originated from) may have gone un-noticed for even longer, even CRC didnt know originally. So surely thats a good thing, a prime example of a forum like this working for its users?
I don’t think anyone is sharpening pitchforks or accusing CRC management of taking details personally, lets face it at the end of the day we are all their customers, we still want cheap bike bits and good service, CRC provide this, we will all be back shopping there once this is resolved. Many companies suffer fraud daily, this could just as easily happen to Tesco or to the little one man online retailer working out of his garden shed, just so happens this time it looks to have been CRC
And as for sizes CRC may be the biggest bike shop in the world and they may process thousands of transactions a day but in wider internet retail they are still small when compred to some others out there (and besides size has no relation to transaction processing security measures)
Using website hits to try and justify that ‘its not a big problem’ is frankly in my eyes not really on. It doesnt matter if one person or one million people are affected it is still a criminal activity affecting one of our suppliers (they are not a site sponsor or an advertiser – they are that company alot of us rely on to be able to partake in this sport) and the loophole is still there and needs investigating and closing no matter who has been a victim
It looks like CRC and the card companies are onto this now, so Im looking ahead and hoping that next week I can order my chainrings safely, because while the chainrings can wait I really have an urgent need for a big brown box
