Agreed fantastic threads and while Abbey MIlls’s brickwork is nice on the outside, its the ironwork detailing inside that makes it really special
can I make a special request for next week Elfin?as RIBA yesterday launched a competition to re-design electricity pylons (an Engineers job not an Architects btw ;)) how about pylons and towers?
and at some point, unless I missed it already, how about, and related to Abbey Mills – Victorian industrial architecture?
iain1775Free Memberthats the one
never stayed at campsite, only as family guests at the house (the owners used to have my wifes horse on loan for their kids so we where up there a fair bit) They moved out but still own it but the horse sadly later died and unfortunately we dont see them very much any moreiain1775Free Memberoh its all got a bit deep and complicated now 🙁
But did someone mention kilns?
iain1775Free MemberOne just outside bakewell near ashover owed by some friends of ours (although not seen them for years) but I forget the name
Has a bar on site or short walk to bakewell w several pubs and a couple in ashover too
There is a ride through chatsworth grounds from doorstep that is ok nothing too demanding but decent for an evening, anything else would be about 30 min drive to hope ladybower etc
Although from Bristol is prob longer but quicker ro get direct to hope valley via m42 m1 to Chesterfield or sheff than plod up x country from derby via a38iain1775Free Member
The Silk Mill in Derby, birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and the worlds first ‘factory’
Sadly the excellent Industrial museum within is now closedBeneath this
Roman Catholic Cathedral in Liverpool (Paddys Wigwam)
is Sir Edwin Lutyens crypt –
and under construction in 1937
It was actually the start of the cathedral proper and the whole building was meant to be brick but then came the war and money dried up. Later plans where scaled back to the concrete ‘tent’ thats there now (itself an iconic building)
Was planned to look like this the ‘greatest building never to be built’ (the frankly huge anyway Anglican cathedral in the background gives an idea of scale!) –
and back to Derby
The Roundhouse, first dedicated railway engine maintenance shed, now superbly restored blend of old and modern and Derby College’s Engineering department (I used to use it to shelter from the rain when it was derilict and I was working at developing Pride Park
inside the old turntable hall –
iain1775Free Member,…outside the college gates?
Gets coat and prepares to jump out of window
iain1775Free MemberI’d be hand wrapping them buttresses in carbon fibre wrap and tea spoons if I was you, just to be safe like
iain1775Free MemberIf anyone names me (unlikely) I’ll take out a superinjunction and sue you all
iain1775Free MemberI’ll send my dog round, soon stop the moult 🙂
Seriously second vote for a furminator, they cut though the top coat and comb the base coat, get a genuine one though and the smaller size for a cat
Suggest doing it outside though, there will be fur flying everywhereiain1775Free Member17 posts and no one mentioned valves and tyre logos
Its a collective STW FAILiain1775Free MemberCheck that big car boot up sherwood way tomorrow (forget what it’s called)
I’ll keep eye out over derby way
On an aside probikes, great shop, Scott is very helpfuliain1775Free MemberThicker ‘through’ axle that sti fits in conventional 9pm fork dropouts
You need the correct wheel mod but don’t need special forks
Stiffened my front up a little but not that noticable, since bent the wheel and gone back to normal qr’siain1775Free Member1994/5 but prob took a couple of years for his input to filter out?
iain1775Free Memberthe one thing worse to be honest than the OP feeling the need to post in the first place is the typical STW bickering and fighting that is now going on
Let the dead rest in peace, let the lorry driver and people at the scene live with today for the rest of their lives and let us keep to talking about bikes, greatful in the fact that we still can, and let the moderators lock / delete the thread before it regenerates even worseiain1775Free Memberregardless of the OP’s sentiments with the thread (an I’ll give him benefit of doubt) was there any need for the picture?
iain1775Free Memberfirst one (as Stubbs Farm is a bit of a grassy uphill drag although once in woods its a good little down) but make where the paths meet you veer left to go back up hill a little and make sure you go past Stones House and Elle Bank and the campsite to get to Hayfield – cracking fast rocky little descent with natural little kickers
iain1775Free Memberprivately imported Niterider lights, 18 months old US plug, no warranty
Battery dies through my misuse (didnt charge over summer)
Rang 2Pure
Sent it in
Brand new battery returned within 2 weeks and offer of a UK charger at very cheap price, nice letter saying it was a goodwill gesture as not under UK warranty so not really their problem
Fair enough comment
Excellent service would highly recommend 2pureiain1775Free Memberif you fall hard on a solid filler they can do serious damage….
i have two rods, ten screws and a cage in my spine to prove this…
I doubt very much that a bit of plastic did that?
What else did you have in the pack, how was it packed, what did you hit on the ground, at what speed?
Last thing on my mind would be rejecting a bag because of a flat bit of plastic that is several layers of padding away from your backiain1775Free MemberAnother big wingnut convert here
Much better than the camelback lobo (doesn’t hold much gear) and the Evoc cc16litre I had before (both for sale make me an offer!)iain1775Free MemberOh god not again, can you hang fire for a mo, I’m all out of tea bags and need to plump up the cushions, I have a feeling this could be a long one
Seriously though, i appreciate you may be having fun playing at being an engineer but what is this experimentation costing you not just in money and time but in potentially ruined parts?iain1775Free MemberI just sit down and scoot my arse along the carpet, like a dog with worms. I guess though that’s a front to back motion
iain1775Free MemberNice idea but didn’t work for me
My printer jammed when I fed my inner tube in
Need a new printer now, would have been cheaper to buy a neoguard 😉iain1775Free MemberTo to summarise the above – check everything, strip it right back and rebuild 😉
Not terribly helpful are we 😉iain1775Free MemberYOu may have over tightened the crank bolts
Is it ht2?
I’ve had same problem twice, both imes it was over tightened boltsiain1775Free MemberIve got an old harness from work you could have Jedi, its a full on Sala harness from my days climbing pylons, couple of lanyards and stuff there too and a man-u-just (wrap it around something, adjust to right length and just lean back, to work away hands free)
Ive sat in it on a bosuns chair for full days at a time at the top of 1000′ TV masts(actually fell asleep once!!)
Probably too heavy to post though so not sure how I would get it to youiain1775Free MemberSome netting held down at edges with tent pegs and kept up of soil with upturned plantpots in middle has worked for last 4 months on our raised veg beds, all cat poo deflected away to other parts of the garden (ggrrr)
Just need to make sure it’s secure and the cat can’t walk over itiain1775Free Memberrustler – Member
And Halfords. How dare they walk with bikes from HalfordsProbably safer than riding one 😉
The new black section was adapted from the original unofficial monkey trail
People making chicken runs are in my eyes embrasing that unofficial trail building ethos and should be congratulated. Just shush and kep it quiet we cant have non locals finding out where it is, or riding without first applying for a permit 😉iain1775Free MemberShame I used to quite like him on ‘Dance Energy’ and ‘Def2’ on BBC2 in the early ’90s
iain1775Free MemberYou have his phone number? If not I have it somewhere I’m sure on an old invoice
iain1775Free MemberShop in Buxton is ok but mail order appalling and ebAy shop very unhelpful
I avoid on principle of the stAndad postage, even on a small cheap £1 spare bolt it will be about £4 postageiain1775Free MemberBabyjogger city mini
Just bought after falling out with previous two buggies
Very compact, so simple one handed fold and very well made
Pretty funny actually as my wife also drives a C3 and wanted it because of how eAsy it is too fold
£199 in babies r us, about £225 elsewhere
Basic in that you don’t get cupholders etc ( available seperately) but the sun/rain hood is huge and has been really good this last week at keeping little one sheltered from sun
Oh and you can get brackets to mount various car seats onto the body so for the first few months it is like a mini travel systemiain1775Free MemberJust leap straight in and do the red bull rampage with them
TJ and TSY said it will be okay so long as they are at least a month old, safer than being in a car!iain1775Free MemberA REAR facing child seat TJ that is surrounded by metal, airbags and a structure designed and tested to crumple and dissipate as much of the crash forces before they reach the occupants inside
Totally the opposite to a trailer on a bike most of which are not designed to fit a car seat in without potentially more dangerous modification
There are other considerations such as ground clearance and shocks but probably lost on you
Your comparison is similar to an egg in an eggbox, compared to one kept in a bucket
As for posting a pic of what maybe goes on abroad, I’m not aware of any red graded bermed trails with table tops on their daily trek to the shops
Regardless of rights or wrongs still struggling tonunderstand why people would risk it all for the sale of waiting a few monthsiain1775Free MemberAnyone who takes a 1 month old on a trailer, be it human or troll child is an idiot end off. Their neck muscles arnt strong enough and their little bodies would get shaken around too much. For me that behaviour is on a par with shaking a baby when it won’t stop screaming. It’s just something you don’t do
Besides why would you want to? You have the rest of the kids life to share your hobbies with them, have some patience and make the most of your remaining time alone, soon enough you won’t get a chance to get out and ride gnarr because the little one will always want to be in tow
Having a kid myself there is nothing I want more than to go out on the bike with her, we actually bought the trailer off here before she was born, I’ve resisted for a year though partly due to not wanting to so her any harm that I may not realise has been done at the time and partly because I don’t want to do it too soon and scare her off for the future. My daughter incidentally was unusually strong since birth and was able to support her own head from about 2 weeks old, and sit unaided shortly after, still not suitable for a trailer at I would say 6-12 months though
TJ there is a reason class 0 car seats face backwards, even
modding a trailer by using a car seat will not offer similar support and besides all the forces you talk of may be less but they are imposed differently and in different directionsiain1775Free MemberNo invite to first sale, thought maybe because I started the whole cc scam thread they had ‘marked’ my email address but just been invited to this one and spent about £70 on a cane creek headset (£30 from £140 or something), some shorts and liners and a seat qr in an old 28mm size that I’ve not been able to find elsewhere Apart from qr I didn’t need any of it but it will be useful at some point. Paid with paypal as always, credit card has probably been compromised by Sony anyway!
Contemplated stocking up on chains and cassettes but they are similar price already at merlin and cheaper at Roseiain1775Free MemberI’d suggest getting round the car boots at the weekend measham willington and moira etc
I’ll keep eye out in derby area
