I had a somewhat less bad accident last year that involved me hitting the road head first after a car turned right across me. It will take time to get better, but you will get better. My helmet was smashed similarly, and I felt very odd for a long time afterwards.

I regularly hit 195 BPM on my bike when pushing hard. I’m 52 this week so the guestimate must be wrong for me.

1998 I got stuck on a train to Sutton because of wet leaves. Every time the signal went green the train’s wheel span on the slight incline as it tried to accelerate and it missed the signal and had to wait for the next opportunity. It was a nightmare for a few years before they brought in the track scrubbers. Network rail also cut down a lot of trees in the meantime.

So it’s not a new problem.

I was 8 weeks in the neck brace with a similar injury, then gentle exercise/physio for another month or so before trying the bike again. I wasn’t in a rush.

Appearing to not be listening while listening – yes. Appearing to be listening and not listening – yes again. First patiently find out what’s going on. For the first, fidget toys are useful, and removing other distractions e.g the other twin. For the second, just patience and more patience. I have less than my wife and tend to repeat ‘focus’ as a key word. Me – I can only remember two instructions on a good day, single instructions and lists can work. But then I do sometimes forget to look at the list.

I have a TCR advanced. A bike fit came with the bike, but all that needed changing were a few pedal spacers and the saddle position. I don’t think fit is the issue.

I would say that compared to my old Cannondale CAAD4 road bike, the handling is ‘lively’. I’ve not ridden a Defy so can’t compare, I guess it may be a bit more forgiving. That said, a few miles in the brain adjusts and it’s great. Likewise there’s not much difference in ride and it feels quite forgiving at the back.

Anyone working with procurement especially for big ticket items will ask for the ‘best price’. In the public sector it is a requirement. If that’s not discounted, fair enough.

I went into a big city bike shop and asked the price of a particular bike. The salesman gave me the discounted price without me asking. Went back a week later and asked for his best price for a cash sale (with my best serious face). A few minutes later he came back with his calculator, a new lower price and the deal was done.

Yup, On-one lurcher. It was surprisingly like riding a new bike, but with slightly bigger wheels. I just wish I’d got a spare set of dropouts for it as they don’t make them any more and I bent mine 🙁

I was in the painful non-union clavicle fracture club and had surgery. Turned out there was muscle wedged between the bone hence the pain. Plating didn’t work so they wedged it with bone graft from my pelvis. Think pelvis, hammer, chisel…It was touch and go if it would heal, in a sling for 8 weeks, but thankfully it did. That was a long time ago.

If both bits of bone move together when you move your shoulder, you’ll be fine despite the X-rays.

This is one of the main reasons that good lights were developed.

Oh and the Nat West closed ages ago, the cash point has been removed, one of the kids has grown as tall as his Dad, and we still meet there at 8 pm.

My son’s mates at school have an instagram feed flatearth_global. Worth a look for a laugh as they are seriously trolling both sides.

The Al Capone reference is very telling. Capone – one of America’s biggest gangsters was convicted of tax evasion and sent to Alcatraz after a very creative FBI investigation. The lesson is to go for the fine detail and convict on ‘minor’ charges. Trump sees this tactic in the current investigation and is clearly worried.

Someone local to us was woken by their terrier barking and running up and down stairs at 6 am in the morning. They told it to shut up and went back to sleep, then went downstairs to find their garage had been burgled.

How about a Giant TCR Advanced Pro 0 Disk? Very nice bike and the spec you want at the price you want (and possibly cheaper on the web).

Neither – both organisations are massively pro-car (surprisingly) and very politically active. We went with green flag because I wanted to pay for vehicle recovery etc and not political lobbying that went against our environmental and pro-bike ideals.

I’m not sure the impacts argument is sound. Especially when riders frequently hit the deck and occasionally go through barbed wire fences or ride with broken bones. Personally, I’m sure its the mental side. Football uses more brain power on tactics etc and so is much more exhausting than cycling which is basically just pedaling.

I have always assumed that the reason they ask for the total and no details is that they will have those from the charity that is claiming your tax back.

If you get audited, they will ask to see records for everything.

CTC lawyers were quite slow to respond when I had a similar accident last year. Be patient if you want your free legal advice/claim (or go with someone else and pay). Definitely claim though, the burden of proof in a civil claim for damages is lower than a criminal case, so even if there is no successful prosecution, you should still get compensation.

    Glad it wasn’t more serious.

@chomp – Southgate has commented that the press seem to think he should headbutt the Belgian manager at full time to ensure 2nd place.

You don’t say how old your son is, the assessment will depend on that. For the initial assessment the Dr should talk to you and your son. You should describe the problems he has been having, and the Dr will likely ask your son about them. From there you should demand a referral for a full assessment. The full assessment will likely be done by a pediatric psychiatrist. For a younger child involves playing with toys and looking at picture books, some questioning and some observation. They have a long checklist to come up with an overall score. Full details here https://www.autism.org.uk/about/diagnosis/children.aspx?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpZK2kPX12wIVip3tCh3jxwrkEAAYASABEgImHvD_BwE

Hopefully, you will have a positive experience that allows your son and your family to get the help and guidance they need.

I cleaned my rotors with cheap diet coke (i.e. brown phosphoric acid) to remove a layer of oxidation. I also tried sanding pads – no joy. New resin pads were OK though. To be fair I didn’t do the control of new pads and no coke…

Once out of hospital, the rder needs a solicitor for compensation (e.g. Leigh Day), and to talk to the police about prosecution. I had a similar crash, the police waited for me to be out of hospital to take a statement. If you’re in a ‘good’ area they will prosecute for careless driving – the driver is clearly at fault and not being able to see is not an excuse. Although, a conviction isn’t needed for successful compensation claim. In my case I claimed for a new bike from my own insurance as it was new for old and didn’t require waiting for the full claim to go through. The insurers (pedal cover) recover the costs from the driver’s insurance so no effect on my premiums. Just over 12 months in now and the claim is still ongoing…

Our Cocker seemed to be hard wired to run ahead but stay in sight (unlike our Welsh Springer). When she was a pup we trained her to follow us by always taking the path that she hadn’t at junctions. She pretty soon worked out that it was better to stop and wait for a point of the hand before continuing on. They are lovely dogs and should be eager to please, especially if you have treats in your pocket.

Sounds pretty normal to me. When it strikes me, I know it’s time to go back to old school XC riding out in the countryside and forgetting the gnar shredding for a while.

I usually ride to the station, probably less than 2 miles, uphill on the way home. I had a few months off the bike following an accident and the loss of fitness was astonishing. I think those few miles everyday all add up.

we stay up by wobbling – this was proved in the UK courts when the defense used by a driver who hit a cyclist was along the lines of ‘he was wobbling’.

just watch a small child learning to ride and you’ll see it

If your Aunt had any money in bank accounts, it can be released by the bank to pay the costs of the funeral if the next of kin gives them a copy of an estimate of the funeral costs before the funeral. No need to wait for probate.

Something similar happened to a colleague. He wasn’t as badly hurt but the driver’s insurance company paid for a new bike and gave a fairly generous sum of compensation for the bumps and bruises in a short period of time.

I had a more serious accident, also a SMIDSY. The driver was prosecuted and so I went down the lawyers route for compensation. It’s a long process…11 months and counting.

Your understanding is the accepted view in all the churches I have ever been to. The resurrection and ascension are different events in time with different symbolism and significance.

My son had an RE GCSE question that was essentially unanswerable as three of the four options in the multi-choice could be interpreted as correct. But I guess that’s the game nowadays – we can’t have too many kids doing well at school…

I think it’s well above it.

    I’m sure he did too.
