6 miles of repeating the mantra ‘don’t stop pedalling, don’t stop pedalling’ should see you through the first ride. You’ll still try and freewheel over the first speed bump but you should be fine.

    Beard.

A friend of mine met an attractive girl in a bar at the weekend who loves beards and works in a bike shop. The holy grail of ladies. :D

Theres one of those “trendy” east london clubs in brick lane..
If you go there, cough, you’ll find most people dancing/prancing and gadding about in trainers.. It’s whats best for bouncing around in see..

If you are into impressing girls, you’re in the wrong end of “Tarn” sonny.

Indeed they do and indeed they were, I can confirm this as I was at a French electro/indie night hosted by Kitsune in XOYO last Friday (wearing hightops). When I’m at home in SW London the secret weapon brogues come out play.

I was mostly commenting on the fact that some people have different requirements from their footwear.

dog walks, 100 mile ultra’s, watching sons’ sport, shopping, cycling….all covered

You seem to have forgotten going to achingly trendy east London clubs, gadding about like a dandy and impressing girls. :-)

Mostly wearing these supra vaider high tops at the moment (see below), white lace up vans for when it’s warm or with skinny chinos or if I have to be smart some exceptionally pointy brogues.

Saab convertible 2l turbo. About 28mpg on long motorway jaunts at 65mph with the roof down.

Luckily most of the time it’s broken down. :(

How many of you have actually manipulated your bodyfat, while preserving muscle and vice versa?

How many people need to preserve muscle? We’re not jeff capes and we’re not carrying atlas stones around, we’re cycling up small hills. Light weight generally = faster.

An hour on the bike might use 200 calories, where as it’s easy to drop 1000 calories out of your diet. Put the bike away (and the reward cakes) and look really hard at what you’re eating.

I managed to lose 25kg (85 – 60) by minimal exercise and feeling constantly hungry. It’s not easy but works a treat.

I’m not saying it’ll make you fitter but it will make you thinner.

So what sort of weight is the Blood frame? Same as a 5 or thereabouts?

I’ll pop mine on the scales later and report back.

Not strictly dinner (that was a mushroom and ham omelette) but it took all day and I feel like showing off.

welsh cakes, scones, upside down banana cake, apple cake and lemon drizzle cake. :D
I made 16 jam tarts too but the pastry was so short they disintegrated when I tried to get them out of the pans.

Matte cars are all over Londons trendy London. Mostly mercs and lambos but I believe it’s a standard option on some ford focusis (foci?) too.

This monstrosity blasted past me a little while ago. Yes that is matte fluro pink.

I’ve just bought a very shoddy Saab 900 with a massive turbo. It’s awful to drive fast, clunky, wobbly, shaky and vague but the moment the roof comes down it doesn’t matter. Convertibles are ace.

Architecture seems to be picking up (in London at least) much more staff movement at the moment which is normally a good sign.

I expect there’s something about mountain biking that attracts looser, freer thinking out doorsy types so the above replies which mostly state they take life as it comes are to be expected, over on golftrackworld they’re probably laying out their plans to have a C-class at 26 an E-class at 32 an S-class at 40 before retiring to the golf courses of southern Spain with an SL by 50.

The world is full of different types of people and that’s great.

If you’re after something a little more rural than central Aber the Glynwern guest house in Llanilar has a self-catering house attached that I think sleeps 8.

Doesn’t seem to appear on the internet that much so you might have to phone to get the full details

    Glynwern Guest House, Llanilar
    Aberystwyth
    Ceredigion
    SY23 4NY
    Tel: 01974 241203

Beautiful location right on the river Ystwyth with some big hills all around (see photo below from the weekend)
Don’t know the prices but I doubt it’s expensive
    Has some garages
About 20-30 mins walk to the local pub
    5/6 miles from Aber
Run by a very friendly but slightly potty lady
Good sewin (sea trout) fishing in the river, which is also perfect for stone skimming

Disclaimer. I’ve not stayed there but know the area very well and have known the owner my entire life (she’s always been potty) so the place may be an absolute dive. I spoke to some people who were staying there last week and they didn’t volunteer that it’s awful but I didn’t ask either. They have been going for the last few years though so they must be vaguely happy with it.

At 35 I must be below the age where the NHS get all excitable about males with chest pains. A few weeks ago I had some serious pains in my chest, arm, neck, jaw and ear (right side luckily) so I did the little questionnaire on NHS direct and twice in big red letters it told me to immediately call an ambulance. Not wanting to cause too much trouble I decided to give them a ring just to make sure, a nice reassuring Geordie nurse told me not to worry as it didn’t sound like I was going to die straight away and to pop to the doctor in the morning. All turned out fine in the end.

Cheers all. With all those glowing reviews it looks like I’ll be upgrading to premium, £10 a month is a small price to pay for access that much awesome new music and it’s still a darn sight cheaper than the £100 a month I was spending on CDs before I switched to spotify.

Now all I need to do is clean up and sort out all my playlists and switch to buying delicious vinyl to appease the hard working musicians who aren’t getting my money anymore.

Barnes is very nice, a little village really, and especially so for the wife and children, but unless you like the feeling of everyone looking down on you like a leper then I would look elsewhere.

[fitting in]I saw a youth wearing a tracksuit in Barnes the other day! A youth, in a tracksuit, in Barnes. What is the world coming to?[/fitting in]

It’s a very nice place and luckily has no shops that would be of interest to looters unless of course they’re after a wing rib of beef, a bugaboo push chair or some delicious sherry.

Wasn’t really expecting to catch much just thought it might be a fun way to kill a few hours on a sunny afternoon. One step up from rock pooling. I’ll be popping to the tackle shop before hand so hopefully I’ll be able get some of the little crab flies if not it’ll be after something that looks like a sandeel. I might pick up some lures too in case it’s too windy.

Fine with putting things back and causing as little damage to the fish as possible, pulled a 14lb undulate ray out of the sea on Saturday and was very happy to return such a beautiful fish (it’s endangered so it would have been illegal to keep it anyway) the smaller thornback was returned too. Can’t say the same for the delicious bream though.

Cheers for the links chaps, plenty of reading for me.

If you’re commuting by bike look for somewhere without a tube but on a train line as they’re normally significantly cheaper. Have a look at Barnes, Mortlake, Sheen and Kew. Leafy and very pleasant with some very good pubs but not too expensive compared to Putney, Richmond or Hamersmith. Only 20-25 minutes into Waterloo and with easy links to the Surrey hills and Swinley.

That’s a set of bars and a straight top tube away from being amazing.

I seen one of the Fixie Scum today; proper fixie, sister’s jeans, daft haircut the lot. Ponce. Even my lovely companion felt like punching him, and she’s a pacifist

To all the people saying the bulkhead was going to crack and the springs were going to snap. In your faces. It was the fuel pump failing that left me stranded on the side of the road.

    Stupid car is stupid.

Oh well I’m sure it’ll be the first of many failures, at least I’ll look suave and sophisticated (like Nigel Havers) while waiting for the AA.

Ditch the breakfast, the mid morning fruit and the butter/Mayo from sandwich. That’s how I lost 25kg (85 down to 60) over 18 months. God I was hungry.

What you have to do is tighten up the straps, put the bikes on and then tighten them up again

I’ve had a cheapo one before (in the 90’s) and that plan ended up with me waiting for autoglass to come and fit a new rear window. :(

yeah it does have a spoiler on the back and it still fits, could do you a pic of it if you want to see how it looks on

If you’ve got a photo that would be great, don’t trouble yourself too much though. I’ve just found out a friend at work is selling a saris bones 3 cheap so I’ll see if I can borrow it for a test run.

Not for a living, just a passing interest in layering, feathering and fringes

It recently had the steering rack replaced (the cause of the bulkhead splitting) so I’m hoping that it would have been picked up then if there was a problem.

The car only cost £1k so I don’t really want to spend anything on it (like fitting a towbar) until I know it’s not going to explode in a ball of badly maintained engine, suspension and brakes.

And for the scuttle shake haters, if that’s the worst thing to happen I’ll be very happy.

Keyses2, does your OH’s one have a spoiler on the back? I’ve just noticed mine does and it’s quite large and could interfere with a rack. I think it might be time to try and find one to try out.

It looks much worse than that.
