you cannot repair the caliper there are no serviceable parts on it. Bin it and buy a new one. Unfortunatelly you are not the first person to be afflicted with this problem.

As many have said get DX's run reasonably loose and they will come out if you bail – Trust me

The round house is ace, i've been a few times, but it is usually booked well in advance.

If folk don't like biking u could leave em in the pub in peebles or they can go for a forest walk.

Or how about paintballing – I think the company is bedlam

    Laserquest?

the blacks fine just very technical. Give it a bash. The red was a bit loose the last time I was there so just watch out for loosing grip on the bends.

they are so cheap you could afford to wear out a few bb's. I did have ISIS drive crank and the bb's normally lasted about a year. Also if you buy FSA they have a two year warranty on the bearings so you can get a replacement if they wear out (which they will!).

I'd give it a bash for that kind of money

lee as TJ has said it depends on the deeds, but if she is liable and the work is not being done under statutory notice I think that you have to give permission for the work to take place (i.e you have to agree the costs etc) but I could be wrong as the law may be a bit different south of the border.

TJ **** thats bad I though our £18,000 statutory repair was bad and that was shared between the block. Good old edinburgh Council!

I had the same problem and went through 2 sets of pads before realising the seal in the caliper was shot and was leaking small amounts of oil onto the pads. As shimano are not serviceable I just had to buy another brake.

    Best of luck with this

bonesetter, not sure where your other prices are from, but Merlin are pretty much allways cheaper than crc but don't carry the same amount of stock. Good service too.

Thats bloody rediculous have it out with them and tell them that you will not be using them in future and start buying from Merlin.

Rear shock pressure is set up by getting the correct sag. This is based on a number of variables such as weight, riding preference and the type of bike you have so its not really something that you can specify. Details of sag measurements and air pressures for fox forks are on the fox website, they have archived information for models going back a few years. For other stuff I have nae idea.

I have to disagree i live in scotland and spend a good deal of time outside in some midge infested areas and i reckon it works pretty well. Maybe not as good as autan or jungle formula, or any other deet based product but at least it dosent melt everything you own that is made from man made fibres. I’ve seen deet melt the lenses and frames on sunglasses (which was expensive).

Its each to their own i reckon but don’t write skin so soft off.

Simon, ta for the info in thwe end we ended up doing the ullswater loop (which I think is quite a well known one from MBR. It went out to pooly bridge and back, it was pretty good and had had a couple of nice gravity assisted bits. I found that a couple pints in the Sun Inn in Pooly Bridge put the power back in my legs to get home.

bald spot you can use the half inserted pin aswell, as it is a shimano joining pin. The one in the packet is a spare, or i suppose it can be used if you shorten the chain and take off the end with the half inserted pin, either way if you have used one of the pins you will be fine.

I have an Ashima rotor on the rear and its fine, I have not noticed a difference to the standard shimano one I was running previously.

i ran the same chain for almost two years and wrecked the cassete and the chainrings (but it was a super cheap crankset). As the guys above have said if you have not let the chain get too worn then you should get away with only having to repalce the cassette.

just had my rp23 done at tf v good service had the shock back in 2 working days. They did the service, new bushings and new heavy duty fitting kit in the standard service price.

i’d use them again no problem.

Cheers everyone, it sounds like it will do fine on this second bike. Anyone think they are better on the front or the rear (I still have to find a really good front tyre!)

edit: Franki I don’t like the sound of your brothers experience as I do tend to chuck it in to corners and have had a few hairy front tyre experiences

pads out pump brakes to reveal pistons (not too much) and then use a thin item such as a match to dab some mineral oil (shimano brake fluid) on to the sides of the sticky piston and then push it back in. Repeat a few times and clean caliper to ensure no oil is left to contaminate pads.

Also look back through earlier postings as this problem has been brought up quite a few times. In one of them some type of red grease was being recommended.
