    Thanks for the replies

We bit the bullet and went for an imac as that’s what she’s been used to.

One of our directors already has a creative cloud account so we can use that.

    Thanks again

    Do it.
Buy a used turntable from the 70’s for £250ish – maybe Thorens td150 or 160?
If you want new then get a rega/project.

I have just got mine set up again from when we moved house nearly a year ago.
    Linn lp12/wd Kel84 valve amp/celestion ditton 33 speakers – sounds glorious.

Of course it also depends on the vinyl you buy. I mainly buy 60’s & 70’s albums on vinyl and newer stuff is cd or download.

Really missed putting a record on and noticed just how flat sounding mp3’s really are. Yes they’re convenient but if you are having an evening in with the tunes on – then get your records out.

Thanks for the replies and tips.
    Much appreciated.

I’m going to order some cheaper paints and small canvases just to get a bit of practice in and see if i can get into a groove with it.

Been wanting to do this for years but have just never quite got round to it.

We used these to take our stove out while we rebuilt the hearth –
They then fit a new pipe with access hatch – cleaned the liner out – resprayed the stove and refitted it. Put a cowl on the chimney and added a room vent.

    They’re in Methley, Leeds

    No hassle at all

Is this going to be as easy as i thought?

    The instructions say
” to replace the flush valve twist it 10 degress anticlockwise and lift.
Gently pull the white block from the back of the button. Replace with a Multikwik Multiflush part number MFV2C”

Im thinking this is a 5 minute job with no seals etc to fart around with.

    Am i wrong?

We are in the process of buying a place that in part dates back to 1649.

When we commissioned a building survey it came back with reports of some damp but we have decided to go ahead and see what happens. We almost got a company in to do some work but decided against it after reading this.

I was a huge smiths fan – they shaped my teen years and i managed to see them 3 times.

The queen is dead is still my favorite smiths album.

I remember my first copy of the songs being recorded from the john peel show just before the album was released. I then got a pukka copy (on tape). Driving around in my first car (an orange 1200 beetle) this album was played to death.

I know its over – is still one of the most heartfelt songs i have ever heard in my life and i still love it today.

    But.. 30 years ago?..blimey

I love the idea of coke and hookers but after discussions with the wife i’m not entirely sure its something i can invest in – so aahm oot! – which is a real shame.

I had been thinking about just putting it into a a santander account as my existing halifax isa has been at .25% for the last year. I have done nothing with it and just left it there but i think i i might open an isa with fundsmith.

I rarely used to drink and never at home up until about 18 months ago.

Then for some odd reason i fancied buying a bottle of Jack Daniels. Lovely.

It soon got to the point where i was getting through a bottle of JD every week.
When i realized i had almost finished a litre in a week at the start of February, i thought i need to reign it in a bit.

Its really easy to fall into this kind of thing.
A bottle now lasts about 3 weeks.

    Thanks for the explanation rich

This is all new to me.

I take it that buying a transmitter and receiver combo would be the best bet as they would be matched and i would be able to upgrade to 2.4ghz too

Is it just a case of wiring in the new receiver to the car – nothing too fiddly?

Also which are easier to handle – stick type or those with the small wheel?

julians – It has a 40mhz receiver fitted.

Is it an easy job to upgrade?
Does one have any advantages over the other?

    Can some please explain freeloading.

Ok – don’t want to be thought of as a lying toad (thanks Rob)

What do i need to do or who do i need get in touch with to get this sorted out.

Don’t want to cause any delays or give the buyer any cause for alarm.

Whats the best way to do this quickly with the minimum of fuss?

Thanks for the replies – think we are going to go with – it was like that when we moved in.

Cant really see anyone being able to say otherwise.
Especially as it has also had a 2 storey extension added before we bought it.

I think anything else may open a huuuuge can o’ worms

We are considering doing the “it was like that when we moved in”

Could easily suggest it was done at the same time the house was extended which was sometime in the 80’s

Is there any way they can find out after 10 years and what is the likely outcome if they do?

I really enjoyed Revolution in the head by Ian Macdonald

There is an essay about 60’s culture and the important changes that happened around that time.

The rest of the book deals with each song written by the Beatles and notes who wrote, played and put together the tune.

Spent a great day with a bit to drink, a bit to smoke and the headphones on. Listened to every song as i read about it then listened to it again.

I’ve been listening to the Beatles for years but this really put them in a different light. Also lots of little bits i had never noticed before.

    Loved it

It was nice to share my hobby

I recently upgraded my OS from snow leopard on my macbook pro 2009.

I read a lot of bad reviews on el capitan slowing things down so decided to go to mavericks instead.

Bought a copy off ebay and apart from a couple of power pc programs not being compatible (office for mac 2004 & wiretap pro). It seems to be running just fine.

Replaced office with libre and all seems well.

Jumped my ram up to 8gb a few years back and also added a 750gb hd at the same time.

My next upgrade would be an ssd drive

I would suggest the op runs malwarebytes to ensure no adware is present and then scan with sophos

Thanks for the replies – looks like a new switch at the weekend

    Stoner –
Its a standard switch that’s been fitted for 10 years now.
    The blown gu10 (50w) was replaced with a 50w –

Four spotlights in bathroom – have replaced bulbs before over the years with no issues.

I think the fact that when this one blew (as i turned the lights on) it also knocked out the lighting circuit and has probably damaged the switch in some way.

Usually do a couple of hours extra every week as they let me roll in around 10am (should be 9)

Commute is 15 mins each way (motorway clear at that time of morning)

I’m pretty sure i could earn a little more than i do if i could be bothered – but I’m a lazy, lazy man 😆

Reading this thread has now made me start looking at RC cars again.
I’ve never had one and always thought i had missed out.
So…i have discovered these mardave v12 models.
They look great .. things like mk1 escorts, morris minors and granada estates..really really want!

    Are they any good?

    @ grahams –

Is there any particular bit that feels worse now?

It just has a general lag to it now – it used to do everything pretty much immediately – now if i press a screen button it can take a second or two.
Was trying to edit a photo this morning and it was just so unresponsive i gave up

    @ jambalaya –

If the OS upgrade bombs you can restore from the Time Machine backup.

    Yiu should backup regularly btw

I do a time machine backup about once a fortnight.
It really hadn’t occurred to me that time machine also backs up the OS. So even if i changed the OS, a restore from time machine would put the original OS back?

    @ mboy –
I absolutely agree. My Macbook is a 2009 model running 10.6.8 and it all works without issues at all.
I can record on it – i can edit photos and videos and i can mess around with illustrator etc and i can surf porn er… peruse the internet all without issue.

My ipad was also running ios7 without issue.

Like you, i never jump in to upgrades generally but from the reviews i read, ios9 seemed pretty stable and there were a couple of apps that i wanted that wouldn’t run on ios7.

Apple just doesn’t feel good to me anymore.
