@roverpig While they are only a stretched Reba and a bit twangy as said above I wouldn’t say it really spoils the experience really. My other 29er has Rebas on it so I suppose I’m used to it! I’ve not had any descents where I’ve thought they were going to kill me as a result of any flex and I haven’t held back on it at all. While I realise that is entirely subjective I have come close to PR’s on rough trails that I originally set on a 150mm full suss bike.
hummerliciousFree MemberYeah they both were, a can’t remember whether the other guy we saw was, actually thinking about it he must have been, didn’t see anyone using blutos
hummerliciousFree MemberIce Cream Truck, this is how it started off:
Awesome misty ride, getting to grips with the ICT now, love it! ? ? ? @intergalacticsurlybikes @surlysociety #surly #icecreamtruck #fatbike_29plus_life #fatbike #fatbiker #fatbiking #fatbikeworld #fatbikedotcom #26aintdead #itjustgotfatter #singletrack #m by Jim Barrow, on Flickr
Then I got some Blutos:
Man it’s wetter than an otters pocket out there! Nice to be allowed to ride again though, regardless of the weather. ?? ?? ?? @intergalacticsurlybikes @surlysociety #surly #icecreamtruck #ICT #fatbike_29plus_life #fatbike #fatbiker #fatbiking #fatbikeworl by Jim Barrow, on Flickr
As others have said, it’s not necessary to have suspension, but for me it’s more fun, my others are rigid so it’s nice to be able to go downhill like a loony and not have my eyeballs rattle out for a change
hummerliciousFree MemberI haven’t myself, but if it’s any help when I was riding the Tour Divide last year I saw three people on fat bikes that had done just that, so it obviously helps in some way.
I thought you could see the bikes in this picture, but unfortunately you can’t, anyway, these two guys had done it:

hummerliciousFree MemberI’ve got a 29+ and a fat bike, they will go in the back of a mitsubishi space star, which is a misnomer as it has no space in it at all. They just fit front wheel off, but I have to take both wheels off if I want to take more than 1 bike in the car.
hummerliciousFree MemberYou could do the wessex way from tim woodcock’s book
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wessex-Way-Minehead-Wheelwrights-Mountain/dp/1859810608
You could turn left at shoreham and go up the downs link, then follow the reverse of the offroad london to brighton
hummerliciousFree MemberI’ve had two SP’s that are going strong and one that died prematurely after about 1500 miles. I’ve replaced it with a SON.
hummerliciousFree MemberBud and Lou here too, they’re great in mud. Though you will get it all in your face on a quick downhill!

Depends what I’m doing, when I was in America and we knew we wouldn’t be going near civilisation for a bit we filled up two 1L bottles on the forks and had a 2L bladder in the frame bag. If I’m doing something in the UK I tend to just use the bladder in the frame bag. When I did the bear bones event last weekend I used a backpack with a 2L bladder and carried nothing on the fork legs. John Climber and I filtered water coming out the bog by the bothy using our Sawyer filters and we’re still alive!
hummerliciousFree MemberI must admit I work at a Trek dealer and was going to go for the Farley, but in the end there just didn’t seem to be a decent selection of tyres so I went for an Ice Cream Truck in stead to stick with 26″
It’s awesome by the way ;-)
hummerliciousFree MemberSame here, boost rear on my Travers, but non boost front so I could run a dynamo hub, which at the time was not available in a boost option.
hummerliciousFree MemberI had a few too. I loved the Hummer, but once I got a 29er I never really rode it again

hummerliciousFree Member@mcmoonter how long did you take for the idaho hot springs? I really like the look of that one. What time of year did you do it?
hummerliciousFree MemberIt was wet out last night!

hummerliciousFree MemberJust bought a new one, but it has 4.8″ tyres
Apart from that I’m 29 only, I wouldn’t ride a ‘normal’ 26″ bike again, I just prefer 29ers

Awesome #mtb ride with @darylg71 last night. Found some new links back from partridge green too. We adopted a outside chainring only rule too, which was challenging but fun. Finishing with a beer in the Gun, sweet! – – #igbikes #ridewithaview #outsideis by Jim Barrow, on Flickr

Just watched @inspiredtoride again, now I’ve got a bad case of #tourdivide longing again! Despite the fact @tjmax173 and I suffered like never before it was an amazing experience. There were many highs and lows, often on the same day, often on the sam by Jim Barrow, on Flickr
I rode the tour divide route with my son from Banff to Butte, it was way harder than either of us could have possibly imagined, but I got to spend a month camping and riding with Tom and we went and rode the slickrock after as well. Raised over £2K for cancer research in Jenn’s memory too.
hummerliciousFree MemberThe blue ones were sold out ages ago Cozz, I ended up waiting for the new one to come into stock. It’s so much fun to ride, I’m sure I won’t miss 20mm of rim width.
hummerliciousFree MemberI did the TD as far as Butte this summer. We stopped off in Helena for a few days and rode the trail system there without bags on our bikes, it was a lot of fun. The bike shops there will tell you all you need to know about the local stuff, The Garage in Helena was especially helpful.
I loved Montana and I can’t wait to go back (though I’ve got to save up some dosh again!!)
hummerliciousFree MemberI’ve just got myself an Ice Cream Truck, I wanted a ‘trail bike’ but didn’t want to buy a full sus. It’s a lot of fun to ride and seems to be able to handle anything I can dish out. Ultimately I will get a pair of Blutos for it, but I’m skint now!
It is a bit of a lump to get uphill, but it’s not too bad and bizarrely on my last ride I got a couple of PRs on climbs for some reason. The true fun happens when you turn round and head back down though, it’s way more maneuverable and nimble than it has any right to be!

hummerliciousFree MemberI’ve got two pairs, I prefer them to the Havens I had before. Good width, I lopped 20mm off to fit through the trees in stanmer.
hummerliciousFree MemberThat would be nice, last time I spoke to them about it they said it wasn’t at the top of the to do list at the moment
hummerliciousFree MemberI used to work on an electronics production line thirty years ago so fortunately I have some soldering skills!

hummerliciousFree MemberI went out to do the TD with my son this summer, we made it to Butte, but time had conspired against us and it just wasn’t logistically possible to carry on with the time we had left. I’m not going to lie, we were pretty damn knackered too!
The thing is I’d originally planned to try to do a certain mileage a day, stick religiously to the route. But in the end it just didn’t pan out that way, we did some bits, we skipped some bits. We rode other trails too. We had a fantastic time but, and I don’t want to use the expression really, it was a life changing experience for me. I really can’t think about anything else now other than going back and doing more.
I’d been dreaming about it since Jenn went and spoke to her many times about it, she told me I’d enjoy it a lot more if I followed my heart and did what I wanted to do, rather than trying to keep on a race pace and she was right.
I’m rambling now and I don’t know what point I was going to make!
Anyway, why do people get so wrapped up in it? I don’t know, all I know is that we had an awesome experience and I will go back and do the rest at some stage.
hummerliciousFree MemberI tried to do a reasonably paced ITT on the Tour Divide route this summer, after three days I realised that a Bimblecore rules version would be far more enjoyable and it was, I didn’t get to the end, but I rode some great places both on and off the route, it was awesome.
Bimblecore rules!
Here’s my bimble machine mid ride:

I can’t praise them enough, I had a life altering accident when I was hit by a motorbike and they did an excellent job. I would say that I didn’t necessarily think they were fantastic for the MTB rider, but stuff they are now doing for access and I there is more interesting stuff in the magazine too.
hummerliciousFree MemberI got mine from germany earlier in the year, £138 for a pair, it still hurt though!!
hummerliciousFree MemberIt was a fun way to spend a couple of evenings and there was some really nice carrot cake too!
hummerliciousFree MemberDon’t know, ping Michael Travers a message from his page if you are on facebook

Unsurprisingly mine is a titanium bicycle, though it’s not one of my own ones, this one appears to be in Upgrade’s front garden. Mine doesn’t appear till number five, there’s plenty of mine on that first page though.
None of them are my Hummer though, which is no longer with me.

hummerliciousFree MemberMy last two frames have had PF BB30, I didn’t have a lot of luck with the praxxis bb so I’ve just put the SRAM threaded converter in both and fitted threaded BB’s into that. No clicks, no problems.
