Balls – I didn’t realise it was an afternoon kick off. Hopefully sky will have series linked it. Just read the BBC sport play by play and it didn’t make good reading – were they total pish or just a bit pish? No mention of Ford until he was subbed and the 2nd best scrum half in Scotland was mentioned about 4 times for knock-ons or dropped passes.

I’m arguing that it’s threads like this that reduce female participation on this site and make it the slightly sad, FHM-ish bastion of {abusive language removed} online behaviour that it is

If you have a look at TriTalk, a site which is pretty evenly split between the sexes, they too have a long running thread of A&A (a male one and a female one). They don’t seem to suffer from any reduction in female participation due to the scantily clad male and female form being appreciated. Your arguement is flawed mr BWD.

Don’t you think Tuesdays team might still have some players from the test team? Saturdays team looks like being the midweek side from now on – apart form Jones and Williams. They aren’t seriously going to rest the team that played on wednesday till next sat. I think the tuesday team still have a good chance of making the test team if they take their chances and I think a good number of the test team will either start or be on the bench.

    Crazant – Who is that?

Does it say something about the average abuser of the chat forum that we can’t even look at pictures of attractive sportsmen and women without starting an arguement. FFS it’s friday. Go and have a nice cup of tea and a biscuit and calm down.

*i would have posted a pic but can’t access any webpic sites from work*

I know but he shouldn’t put his hands on the ball until he’s ready to pass. I agree that with the sharks players diving over the rucks off their feet there wasn’t a lot he could have done in the 1st half but he was slow passing even quick ball. I’m not saying Blair would be any better (unless he magically recovers some form on saturday) but is he really the best no 9 we have?

Mears had a bit of a mixed game i thought. BBC sport raved about his performance but from what I saw – other than the try – he was ok. The missed hook in the scrum was shocking and they mainly threw to the front of the line out or the middle jumper comming forward so not exactly challenging throwing. I think Ford needs to be given a chance – he was pinged for a couple of marginal squint throws on sat but he is an extra no.6 in the loose unlike the diminutive meers.

If Phillips was doing the slow service on purpose he should get a roasting for it. He needs to get the ball away from the rucks before he gets ****tted – like he did twice last night. Standing with your hands on the ball at the back of a ruck is a schoolboy error.

I’m still standing by what I said about O’Connell – he’s my 4th choice lock behing AWJ, Hines and Shaw. He’s just not bossing anyone on the park, he’s tackling like a girl and going down far too easily in the tackle.

It’s a fine balancing act of making the anodising just thick enough to last for 3-4 years as long as you service properly. Too thin and it wears out too quickly evan with servicing and too thick and the fork lasts forever and fox don’t get a repeat sale. I’m sure they have a business model based on this – Fox aren’t in this to be our friends, they want to sell us lots of their products and if they fail after 3 years then that’s all the better for fox.

1/2 going home too, not to be replaced.

Eh? sorry just checked BBC sport – Halfpenny.

I’m not sure about the front row for tonight being the test choice. Meers is still too wee and his line-out throwing isn’t any better than the other two. If they really want to dominate the scrum (which I think They do) they will go with Jenkins-Ford-Murray for the 1st test. Beast the boks good and proper and make them think twice about playing a hooker as a test prop.

Has the Lions Captain ever been dropped from the starting XV? if O’Connells form doesn’t pick up a bit I’d be going with AWJ and Hines as first choice 2nd row.

Just read through the thread and I’m not convinced doing 100+ press-ups really quickly is a very good idea in terms of strength gains. It will give you quite a good cardio workout but if you actually want to get a bit stronger you need to do them quite slowly concentrating on form and keeping your core stable.
Don’t set a target – just keep going to failure. It’s a mistake a lot of gym novices make, they do 10 reps and finish even if they could have done 15. Slow down and press-up in a controlled manner is the best way to develop a strong core and strengthen chest, triceps and back bits.
And yes you want to be doing some pull-ups as well to prevent a muscle imbalance.

Try Sleep Monsters for all your adventure racing needs. Depends on how extreme you want to go there is anything from 5/8 hour short races to week long epics. The rat race is always a good bet – if you do Bristol / Edinburgh you get out in the countryside.

Just keep trying – I had the same problem with some Maxxis high rollers USTs onto my Bontrager race lite wheels. Snapped tyre lever and grazed knuckles but on the third attempt I got it. You just need to go a little bit at a time with the tyre lever, it may look like you’re not making any progress but it will go – eventually.

Of course it’s still swollen – you’ve just had the stiches out! It’ll be stiff because you’re hobbling around and it’s still swollen. Go out on your bike tonight (possibly meeting me and Barton at N3) and see what it’s like – if it’s too sore for a light pedal tonight then no racing for you at the weekend my boy 😉

    Patriot FR

    6’3″ & 15 1/2 stone – Coil DHX 3 and 36 Vans and it goes up-hill just fine – thanks very much 😀

Although You’d have to get a 2008 model as they stopped making them last year.

Yeah – I didn’t even try the medium after reading the Fox guide (max rider wieght 14 stone)put in the firm without thinking even though my weight is right at the top end for the firm (green) spring. Any fat lads (15 stone +) out there ridden a medium (blue) spring?

I tried the taking feet out of shoes while still cycling thing last year and managed to catch the toe of my shoe on the the ground, swerved sideways and almost took out the guy next to me (he had to hop onto the verge). I really should have practiced before deciding to try it for the first time in a race. This year I’m going to stop, take my shoes off and put on my trainers and it will probably be faster. I’d only go down the getting on bike with shoes already attached if you are an elite athlete or unless you want to practice a lot to make sure you don’t crash.

I am not a proper triathlete I just do a couple of little ones every year to punish myself.

I’ve never worked out how to make my own chicken – gluing the bits back together never seems to work.

All good advice but be prepared for the bad breath and epic farting bouts if you start eating huge amounts of protein.

Are you trying to bulk up? Cycling will help but a bit of resistance training will make a big difference. I’m not saying get to the gym but press ups, pull ups, dips etc will make a big difference to your bike handling down-hill.

Recovery wise I’d be more concerned about replacing your glycogen stores – lots of low fat slow release carbs (oats, wholemeal pasta, potatoes, brown rice and some protein to rebuild muscle. Natural protein wise you can go for cottage cheese, tuna, turkey, chicken, eggs etc etc. Don’t think you have to empty Holland & Barrett to build yourself up a bit – yes it’s probably quicker to go for tubs of powder but you never really know exactly what you’re taking 😯

It’s red. I’ve got a ‘standard’ non-sliding drop out inbred and was looking at the picture of a 456 thinking ‘that’s the same as mine’. I’ve checked the weld on the seat tube and the pic is of a 456. Every day’s a school day.

    Thanks chaps

Cheers Brant. That’s what I meant – distinguishing features. You can’t really tell from a picture if it’s lighter or has a slightly longer top tube 🙂

I check mine for wear now and again but there isn’t anything obvious. But, I got a new pair of shoes last week and it was like I’d cranked the pedal tension up to full! I’d been incrementally inreasing the tension on my pedals to counteract the wear. I don’t ride that much (once or twice a week) but my old cleats were about a year old. You just need to make surre that if your using more than one pair of shoes that your cleats are all the same age or you’ll have to adjust the pedal tension everytime you change to a different shoe 🙁

I know that – I was trying to differentiate between the old and new style inbreds.

    I’ll try again.

How do you tell the difference between the standard 100mm travel DN6 inbred frame and the 456 DN6 frame?

Rugby shirts are always a good bet – vary in thickness and you can get long or short sleave. You can pick last seasons club shirts up for about £20 a pop and they’re generally wicking but hardwearing technical fabrics.
    Try Lovell Rugby

I have a set of Kinesis XMAX Rigid Carbon Forks that I bought to stick on my DN6 inbred. I’ve ridden it a couple of times but I think I’d rather have the extra wieght of suspension forks especially when I’ve got the cross-bar mounted kiddie seat on.
Bought off here about two months or so ago and look brand new – Very good condition. IS Disc mount 220mm Steerer, 440mm axle-crown.
Open to offers if anyones interested.

I ran my DN6 inbred with Reba u-turns at 115mm all the time and it felt fine. Once you’ve added sag into the equation they’re under 100mm when your riding. That last point may be comlete hatstand.

On an unrelated point anyone have the info to hand on the minimum steerer length i’d need on a 20″ DN6?

I wouldn’t say the switchbacks up Menstrie Glen were lovely unless you also enjoy beating yourself with branches or setting fire to your hair.

Menstrie has it’s own topic on STW. Awesome

It’s the same frame with slightly cheaper bits.

Buy the comp and upgrade the shock to an RP2 and you’ll have the same bike with a slightly cheaper drive train – which you can upgrade when you wear it out

MBR tested the Pushed Fox RP23 in the lab and on various bikes and found it worse than the original. Just a thought to ponder…
