    Yep – stupid question 😉

As long as you take in enough carbs for your glycogen stores to recover and you're not depleting your already depleted reserves then upper body weight training won't affect your recovery.

They're your hands. I personally prefer to keep the protective coating (skin) on mine so wear gloves when i'm riding.

Is this the next fad? (not having a go hora – honest 😉 ) but I saw at the Fort William world cup that some tool was riding without gloves on in the DH.

My little beastie is still getting to grips with hers but so far i'm really impressed with the trail gator. Not quite as easy to ride when I've got the 2 1/2 year old on the front in her ibert seat!

I've got a pair of inov8's that are really good for steep and muddy but for dry and hard conditions I've got a pair of Saloman XA pros that are rather good. i'm 6'3" and 100kgs btw.

Nothing at all. He just didn't have the support of the left or right wings of his party and paid the price for poor opinion poll ratings. Total horseshit to say any of his policies caused this – the unions just didn't like him.

I don't know if I'm qualified to comment on this since I actually live in Australia 😉

finners – 140mm all the time and it feels fine. I did wind them down to 120 the other day on a long steep road climb to see if it made any difference but if you lock them out at full travel it doesn't feel too bad uphill. I'm running a 75mm stem with 685mm bars – which feel about right.

Totally agree with AP. Talk to the neighbour and see what he/she says – you should be able to come to a compromise. A planning objection (apart from the prohibitive cost) should b a last resort as all it's going to do is piss off your neighbour.

As far as objecting on grounds of loss of view – you are onto a loser from the start. You aren't entitled to the view you have and unless your neighbour is proposing a 5 storey block of flats you can't really say they are affecting your enjoyment of the environment. If you got a planning consultant on board they might be able to find some past precedents on the subject and put a case forward to the planning inspectorate but ultimately they tend to be pretty pragmatic on these sort of things – and don't like planning consultants very much.

(I'm an escaped town planning consultant)

I always reated my inbred and thought I'd try out something a bit more knarrly so I built up a summer season with coil pikes. It was shit – dodgy slack steering and it weighed a flipping ton. I rode it twice then stipped it down and sold the frame. I bought a nice 853 PA off the classifieds on here and that, on the other hand, is quite awesome.

Rugby, running, triathlon (which does include running I know), surfing, skiing, touch footy (which used to be rugby but now is something completely different)

I'm not sure if any of these actually help with my biking other than general fitness and stamina and they don't seem to help each other – good at skiing / shit at surfing. If your other sports were motocross and cross country skiing you would be an MTB god!

Full name – Hugo Artemis Solon Saturnicus Reginald Arthur Rune

he has walked the earth as Nostradamus, Uther Pendragon, Count Cagliostro and Rodrigo Borgia, can open a tin of sardines with his teeth, strike a Swan Vesta on his chin, rope steers, drive a steam locomotive, hum all the works of Gilbert & Sullivan without becoming confused or breaking down in tears, was taught how to stop his heart by the Dalai Lama (In exchange for teaching him how to play darts), once climbed Mount Everest in a smoking jacket and plus-fours to win a bet with Oscar Wilde, swam the Atlantic Ocean to win a bet with Humphrey Bogart, reinvented the ocarina- thus giving it more holes and allowing it to open portals to the aforementioned 'Forbidden Zones'-, an expert swordsman, a gourmet chef, a world traveller, poet, painter, stigmatist, guru to gurus and hater of Bud Abbott.

It just kind of seemed right 🙂

Might have to start a new thread on STWers in Convictland – Anyone else in New South Wales?

Slight frame hijack – Anyone know how many mk1 853 PA's were made?

I'm on my second one (battleship grey) having sold my nice red one for no good reason. I've currently got a set of coil pikes on it but managed to pick up some Fox 32 talas to try a bit of travel adjustment.

    Cheers for that

antigee- my little beastie has the attention span of a labotomised goldfish so I am wee bit worried that she might get bored and try to get off while we're pootling down the road so a mirror might not be that bad an idea. She's just got the hang of riding without stabilisers so I'm hoping this will us a bit more mobile.

I might have to stick a set of flat peddles on now

Headed out to Stockton this morning (other side of the Hunter river from Newcastle) for our 8am surf to be greeted by 6 foot plus close outs that were hammering the beach. Haven't had a decent surf for three weeks because we have too much swell coming in from the pacific!!! Don't complain about 3' english surf – at least you can get a ride without risking snapping your board in half 🙁

    Hey surfing-type-stw-ers

I've managed to miss this thread but can now justifiably join you as a proper surfer 😉 Moved out to Newcastle in NSW about 4 months ago and have been surfing at least once a week since I got here. I'm a bit big for this lark – 6'4" and 16 Stone so have gone for a big mini-mal 8'6"x23"x3" which I still can't turn but enjoy falling off on a regular basis. The thing that's going to upset you most is probably the fact that i'm surfing in a spring suit in Aussie winter and i'm a bit too hot – the water temp is usually higher than the air temp out here! If any of you are in NSW and fancy a diversion on the way to the major surf areas, give Newcastle a try and give me a shout. I really am not missing central Scotland 🙂

Don't do it. I got some stickers made up for my Orange Patriot and two weeks later it was stolen. Now some of you out there may suggest these two events were wholly unrelated but I know the gods of good taste were pissing on my narcissism.

I've got a 20" white inbred in the garage. It's been built and stripped 4 times – each time I build it up I convince myself I need a more bling frame and then swap all the parts across and then end up selling the new one. They are a sweet ride and for the money (I paid £50 for mine off the classifieds) you would be hard pressed to find anything that comes close. Yes it's heavier than an 853 framed cotic soul but its 1/3rd of the price. Build it, ride it and enjoy 🙂

BTW – in what way is white a depressing colour? My other HT is a battleship grey Dialled PA – now that is a depressing colour.

Biking in Snow sucks! Have fun but take it easy unless your wearing some serious body armour and a full face helmet.

Mr Miller! How the devil are you? Ask dangerous Dave about Laggan black – he crashed two or three times but 'it's all rideable' 🙂 If you do a Youtube search for Laggan Black run there a couple of full length POV clips of the whole route. Looks **** scary to me! It can't still be snowing up there – it's nearly May!!!

I've bought a load of twin 6 stuff in the past (mostly t-shirts) and the quality is excellent.

The reason all the Fat Cyclist stuff is hand drawn is that it sells out so quickly once it hits production that it's usually available on pre-order only. Check out his blog.

Another vote for The Big Blue – simply beautiful cinematography.
Braindead, Bad Taste or Meet the Feebles – Peter Jackson before he started reading too much Tolkien.
Or my favourite small independent film staring a Frenchman – Highlander 🙂

shouldn't that have been 12 cloves and 1 whole grated nutmeg?

Almost as bad as the stuff I made some on christmas eve – substituted the fresh ginger for an equivalent amount of dried ginger (should have used about a quarter), and due to a complete mis-reading of the recipe put in rum instead of Brandy . We had Alcoholic ginger wine that almost ripped out the back of our throats.

Good point – It was a genuine question though. How many new/nearly new bikes are sold on here? In my experience you usually see used whole bikes (which rarely sell) that end up bring split. Would I be better on bikeradar or just accept the charges and stick it on ebay?

I've stuck it on the classifieds anyway here
