There are loads of cycle route download websites.
    Bikely
    Gpsies
    Trailzilla
There are many more but these are the ones that I use.
I have found many internet downloaded routes a bit hit and miss.
Many times trails are not there or illegal and probably not appropriate for cycle use on busy periods etc.
MTB route finder[/url] is a good index of published routes but doesnt contain many downloadable routes.
I’m a big fan of the vertebrate series which covers routes all over the UK.

If rapid changes in posture or g forces causes you to black out how safe do you think you’d be riding in the Alps?
I’ve never been there myself but it appears very steep and gravity oriented.

    My girlfriend hates mine.
She says its the last thing I look at and touch before I go to sleep, and the first thing when I wake up.
She is unhappy at having being replaced by an ipad.

I’m very excited by this news. I’ve looked but can’t find a link. anybody?
My summer vacation plans hinge on this as I have all of August off. Hire a campervan and do a road/mtb trip in the UK for August vs go to Europe and do the sightseeing thing.

    Agree with above.
Your dog is in discomfort and you want to mess around asking people around here for veterinary advice!
Antihistamines can be lethal in the wrong doses.

Great story. Love to know how it was found out but can understand the reasons why you may not want to post it.

I can accept that not everybody checks their emails daily like I do but if I were in the middle of a transaction or important matter I certainly would. Its not like the internet is difficult to access.
    Good luck.
I dont think I could handle the stress associated with an expensive purchase with a stranger over the internet.

Failing that, it’s the bogfest that is the Preselis!

Preselis was like that for me too even during that cracking 3 weeks we had in May.
    Very over- rated trail IMO.

Crap brakes though compared with hydro diasc or road DP’s

I’ve heard this before. Why is a cx bike with disc brakes less effective than an mtb with the same? Will a cx bike’s brakes be a liability on the road or will it it be good enough for strong braking if needed?
Like others in this thread I’ve considered a cx bike as a road bike and commuter. I’m not so concerned if their not as quick, I’d rather the security offerred by a slightly fatter tyre and a sturdier built steel bike compared to a performance focused carbon road bike.

Looking out of my work window it’s lovely outside in Cardiff. Met office suggests that it will rain heavily at 5 just as I’m driving home. Typical really.

I don’t mind a thin layer of it over a firm base but can’t stand thick sticky boggy stuff that stops your wheels turning and gears working.
I live in a flat with no hose access, but I always do a quick jetwash at the local service station before bringing the bike in the apartment.
I’m an Aussie living in Britain ATM and its very much frowned upon to ride in the mud at home, so Ive never been very good at riding the stuff and don’t find it much fun either TBH.

As for 29ers I’ve noticed that the larger wheels gather much more mud than 26ers and become very heavy. I think they are not so good in the stuff personally. I have been running pretty wide tyres though (2.5/2.4 Bonti’s) but what I saw at the 24/12 was that most 29ers were running thin aggressive tyres. This may be the secret.

I’ve been waiting to close to the event to register and only doing so if the forecast looks favourable.
I can’t stand camping in extreme wetness nor riding or pushing in bog. There’s much better ways to spend a weekend.
From my observations there hasn’t been many dry events at all this summer.
I went to 24 12 with a large group of people and I had a good weekend overall, but it was due to the company I was with. The riding was awful and I gave up after 4 laps as did most of our group.

I got rid of the cheap one with the fixed hotplates and bought the one with the removable plates for this reason.
I put the removable plates in the dishwasher. Lazy but very effective.

I frequently commute late at night by bike and encounter red lights. Are you supposed to wait like a fool at the intersection for a car to come along and trigger the sensors, or do you check and ride through if clear? I do the latter.
Alternately you could hop onto the footpath, breaking the law again and push the pedestrian button.

Traffic lights were actually dangerous in many middle eastern cities and were removed. It seems many arabs thought only fools would take orders from inanimate lights and many disregarded their apparent authority.
Now they just toot their horns whenever approaching intersections at night and its a much safer place.
Busy intersections are controlled by armed policeman which assume much greater authority than an automated light. I think they’re onto something personally.

If there was a reliable hydrolic one I’d buy one today.
I’ve paid more for upgrades with trivial if any benefit.
Unfortunately for every person who says they’ve had brand x post for 12 months problem free, there’s 5 who say they’ve had it serviced 3 times since they bought it last week, but it was amazing while it worked and it completely transformed their riding!

You should go back now and sleep in the mud for a few hours, then wake up and keep riding.
Please post up how you feel in the morning :D
Joking mate, cheers for the update.

I made this change a few months ago and thought it was an improvement for open trail riding. I think it gives you a stronger more stable front end in techy riding with the improved leverage you get.
I was quite stretched out before and did notice my ability to move around the bike improved too.
The wide bars certainly affected my confidence in forests with tight gaps etc and I am much more cautious in these situations.
If I was riding alot of tight natural stuff I think I’d change back to shorter bars.

If you can’t do without alcohol for 4 weeks you are already an alcoholic and should consider professional help.

I drove for an hour to the hills with the promise of acceptable riding weather. Massive rain, drenched and cold 5km into a planned 50km ride. Turned back and drove an hour to get back home.
Completely shit day. This summer is a ducking joke.

I was going to do this today but the weather forecast put me off and I’m staying local in south Wales.
Someone posted up what looked like a nice 35km route the other day which was going to be my plan.

There’s a few guys on my night ride that ride incredibly shit bikes and yet are still better and quicker than the rest of the group by a long way. I personally think its a form of reverse willy waving.
I’m certainly over biked like yourself but what does it matter.
I don’t want to ride at the limits of my skills or my bikes capabilities.
That would give me no margin for error, and I certainly need that more than anything.

    No it’s still closed.

Damn you guys. I’m heading out to Asda to get some for dinner tonight. I usually get the haddock ones. Often have a bag of scampy on the side too. I usually dip them in Nandos garlic peri peri sauce.

The chicken jumped the red light, without a helmet, to get its gopro in order to film a fast descent of the Ben Nevis on a bank holiday, and claim the KOM on strava.

    pics of the helmet?
I’d consider myself extremely lucky to get away from a crash like that without serious injuries. Go buy a lottery ticket and make a donation to a head/spinal injuries charity.

Laws are for idiots and criminals. Intelligent moral people do the right thing regardless of the law. I ride on the footpath, run red lights on my bicycle, but drive at appropriate speeds which are often less than the prescribed speed limit, I pay my taxes and act considerately to my fellow man.
The law serves a similar purpose to what the bible did many years ago. It provides a set of rules of how to appropriately conduct yourself, if you are incapable of making that decision yourself.

I don’t see how all these titles are mutually exclusive. I’m a cyclist, a driver, a mountain biker, a scuba diver, a professional, a traveller, a husband etc. None of these titles makes me superior to anyone else, it just what I like to do.
If somebody asks me who I am however I use my occupation, but that doesn’t mean I’m not anything else.

I live in the south and generally prefer the so called natural stuff but in the current conditions I tend to stick to the trail centres.
Cwm Carn is good for 2 hours but you can spend a great day at Afan or Brechfa.

Are you both using wheel sensors?
Once a garmin is calibrated to the wheel sensors it uses that in preference to the gps to calculate speed, distance etc.
It may be possible that one of the garmins took an extra 20 seconds to get a satellite fix and so created the observed time difference.
The other possibility is that one of the models lost signal for a while which I’ve noticed happens on my 800.
You should repeat this experiment on an open straight road with clear sky view, and start/end the segment at a definate change in direction like an intersection.
I’d be interested to hear the result.

That steep steppy narrow stuff with large penalties for failure is too difficult for me. Thought they rode it very well.
