Handbrakes are for parking only. You shouldn’t need to use them for taking off even up moderate inclines.

I have the 64GB and its about half full so I’m glad I didn’t get the 32GB.
I have lots of reference books for work and about 10 films on it.
I do have a fair few apps but no real massive ones.
I really don’t use the 3G function much and its so damn slow in some places that I can’t be bothered and just wait till I can get to a wifi hotspot.
I only have a few music albums on it as above my ipod does the rest.
I just bought my partner a new ipad and I got her what I would recommend you which is a wifi only 64GB version.

My large Niner RIP9 weighs 7.4 lbs at the moment.
Don’t have any pics on the scales but I do have this one of it enjoying some rare Welsh sun!

I just tried to google mtb-wales and drew a complete blank. That was a very, very good forum. Would hate to see STW go the same way

mtb_wales went down due to spambots and viruses. All kinds of bad stuff happened to your computer after visiting there.

Some of these personalities can be irritating or intimidating at first but after a while they are predictable and to be honest amicable for me.
TJ for all his faults added alot around here and once you let go of trying to argue helmets or red lights with him, you could have a good chat with him.
DS comes across to me as a very dry witty intelligent person. His opposing stance often enlightned a majority (way too left wing) stance on a controversy.
GW for me is a typical FIGJAM stereotype (**** I’m Good Just Ask Me). Once you understand this you accept that most of his posts evolve around this common basic principle it becomes entertaining and predictable rather than personal or offensive.
Personally I believe if you are threatened by these people then you have inherent personality confidence issues, and perhaps shouldn’t voice your opinion in a public forum where you may be outwitted or academically challenged. You’d be better off just lurking and being educated.
For me these personalities add to this virtual society.

Passive euthanasia and to some extent active euthanasia occur daily in palliative care settings daily but it’s done with extreme caution and dignity.
Unfortunately the more profile a case receives the less likely that the medics involved will be capable of doing it.
It’s very common in palliative proactive to withdraw life prolonging medication and administer strong analgesic agents, with the inherent knowledge that they will reduce life expectancy but the sufferer will go comfortably.
It’s unfortunate that such humane practice is technically illegal and the medics involved potentially risk prosecution.
In this unfortunate mans case withdrawal of his ventilators support is all that would be required – passive euthanasia.
I think as long as he was deem to be of sound judgement then he should have every right to have his ventilator switched off. Given we have all heard about this through the media it will never happen.

My other half uses it all the time as she’s into paleo and crossfit. I don’t care for either of those things but have started using coconut oil all the time as it tastes really good on most stuff. Really nice for steaks, chicken breast, gammon loads of things. It burns really hot too. It is a bit pricey though.

This happened to one of mine – the older version. I stuck the mechanism on with 2 hose pipe clamps. I used electrical tape to cover the handiwork. Probably should have sent it to GD by the sounds of things above but it still works.

I use a service station jet wash after every muddy ride. I avoid the shock and fork seals – blast away from them rather than into them. I haven’t had problems with other bearings – they all get blasted.

Ive maid lots of CRC drunken purchases but no ebay ones.
Usually they’ve been things I’ve wanted for a while but had the sensible restraint to postpone till a more financially appropriate time.
Remove the restraint and some regrettable purchases happen!!

My Hero 2 takes much better pics than my panasonic Lumix FT2 rugged outdoor camera. I have taken identical scenes with both and there is seriously no comparison.
I agree that the gigs of video footage I have of me mincing down technical trails is not really useful! If I can’t watch it who will?

Given the current state of Afan with all the closures on Whites my preferred route is to start from Glyncorrwyg, do the whites climb, use the crossover W2 link road at the top, do the Wall descent, then ride along the cyclepath next to the river to get back to the start. For me it combines the best of whats currently open in the area.

That happens at Afan too. I doubt its Strava but I have no evidence to base that opinion on. I think its just people losing their lines.
Afan has loads of amateur blockages reminding people where the trail is.

you’re going to spend most of your time on the Taff Trail (avoiding walkers and their bloody uncontrolled dogs)

The unleashed dog thing is an endless source of frustration for me.
I am a dog owner so I appreciate the plesure of letting them off the leash to wander a bit. Why do they have to do this on the bloody path though where the dog is a danger to itself and every passing cyclist.
Why can’t they walk 10 yards off the trail into the lush green open parks and let the mutt loose there!!
    Rant over sorry!

@ spacemonkey. I upgraded from the hero 1 to the 2. There’s a huge difference. Footage in low light situations is much better. I haven’t looked at the GoPro promo vids but the quality it puts out is easily up to professional standards.

I live in Cardiff Bay so basically neighbours. AFAIK the nearest proper riding is near Tongwynlais. Thats where I go for riding from my front door anyway.
Happy to show you around if you’re not familiar with the area otherwise I can give you details of a few club rides that I do in the area.
I’m not aware of any trails south of Tongwynlais.

I love my Garmin 800 and its the best thing on the market ATM.
I do find it difficult to see the screen sometimes though when the sun’s out but fortunately that’s not a frequent problem.

“thou should not clean your steed with a jet wash”

Unless you know what you are doing

I jetwash all the time. Other than the fork and rear shock seals the rest gets a blast.
Is there anywhere else that you need to take care?
Not trolling or anything, I wanna know.

I argued with him alot but he was good value.
I picked up his email address once and I hope I get a chance to banter or ride with him one day.
I’d love to have the helmet argument with him in person and see how it differed to all the many online ones we had.
I’m surprised with the Stoner comparison. Seems like a great guy to me and haven’t seen anything nasty.

Bol I’m very surprised by your response. You haven’t had that thing long either.
I think I’ve made good use of my rear travel as I’ve just cracked mine in 2 places at the seat tube!

I use a speed/cadence sensor too but I don’t think the autopause function relies on that to determine that your not moving.
Whenever you get in forests the autopause goes crazy and I always presumed that this was because it loses satellite signal intermittently.
You will notice your distances with the autopause on are much less than with it off.

    I hate the autopause function.
Switch it off to stop the thing beeping at you incessantly when it loses satellite signal.

Depends on the type of riding you do.
My Niner RIP9 with 120 both ends was perfect for rocky south Wales.
You could ride much less and many do but I never felt like I had too much travel.
I also took it on long epics and marathon events and never regretted the travel.
If you’ve got the legs to push it then why not.
Its not really much different than all the 5 and 6 inch bikes you see out on the trails.

Why is it that they can make a horse walk sideways, stand on its hind legs, trot in rhythm etc but they can’t stop it taking a massive dump in the middle of an international performance?
The horses at the Spanish riding school in Vienna did exactly the same thing.

Get out of the saddle, and lay down some power, just as every pivot i’ve tried (429, mach 4, 5.7 and firebird) you are sorely reminded you’re on a full suspension bike. Really awful for flattish flowy stuff out of the sadddle where it’s nice to put in the odd hard crank just when pumping won’t quite suffice.

When I first got on my Firebird I was bitterly disappointed and almost wanted to return it.
I bought it when it first came out based on reviews and all the hype. I’d never demo-ed one.
It took me a while to get the DHX tuned to my weight. I’d only used RP’s before so didn’t know what I was doing.
Pivot uses high compression ratios so small changes in pressure and settings make massive differences to performance. I’m a big guy so struggled to keep the air in it after removal of the pump as the small leak when you remove it caused massive pressure loss. I think it performed loads better on the linear mode rather than progressive as the DW ramps up anyway.

I need a bike that descends well to make up for my lack of descending skills and it works very well for me!
But this thing seriously climbs which is where most of my riding fun is at.

I agree with convert here too.
Too much subjectivity and art involved in dressage and not enough raw athletic talent.
I’m sure there are lots of skills involved in dressage but they don’t produce objective measurable outcomes.
Just because you can compete in something doesn’t mean it needs to be part of the Olympics.
    What’s next? Painting, debating, eating?
