All frame materials fail but only carbon fails like this. Buying from a reputable brand does not protect you either as in this case. Glad the rider was mostly ok.

The rear is now worn out after 41 hours use, that’s getting on for a pound an hour!
so yeh, I’m looking for something different

Geez what are you doing to them? I’m using a 29-3 TLR as my rear and think its a great tire. In rocky south Wales its holding up real well.
I’ve had comparable times to you on Maxxis Crossmarks and WTB Stouts.

Back to the OP. I change for the winter and summer only which usually coincides with the time they need replacing anyway. Summer tires don’t last very long but I ride loads more then.

When mine need changing I like to experiment and try new tires.

very nice riding. Didn’t think those Jones type bars were good for technical riding but that video settles that.

That route is Red on Stoners Black2 map above.

I was gonna do the black mountains this arvo but this weather has put me off.
If you get the book, my advice would be the Mynydd Langorse route. Its an absolute beauty.

I dont rate that map pack.
This book is very very good IMO. You can pick them up from Go Outdoors stores.

I think the idea of the chameleon is that it can be used for a number of applications depending on how you set it up.
100m forks for XC use to longer travel for DJ or trail.
The main downside of the Chameleon is the EBB which can be problematic.
SC typically have short top tubes for their size. Sizing might be different depending on how you want to use it.

Here’s what I did with mine.

I’ve had 3 trail bikes since my Intense and never had to touch the pivots on any of them.
My pivot bolt issue started off as something I had to check every now and then. It deteriorated and would eventually need tightening mid ride. Its a bit silly having to carry a 6mm allen key everywhere in your pocket to tighten them during a ride.
The set screws and circlips dont stop them either. Its just bad design.
When you check the Intense forum you see that at any time there is at least one thread on the page relating to this problem.
Since the 6.6 there has been 2 generations of Tracers and this problem persists with the current models.
    Not good enough IMO.

Back to the OP who wanted advice. Change brands. Its great not having to worry about your bike and as MBR put it “Just get out and Ride”

When you pay top dollar for a frame expecting top quality you don’t expect to have to resort to such methods.

Intense somehow have set themselves up as the flagship mountain bike frame supplier yet continue to supply the most unreliable manufacturers on the planet.

See here for more recurring evidence:
One of the many Intense frame break threads

The advice to go via CRC is correct – get them to supply you a replacement 2010 frame (the one with ISCG tabs fro reference) or quote not fit for purpose – tell them its a known fault all over the internet (which it is) and that they have a duty to replace it with a modified version – otherwise its an easy lawsuit.

Intense bikes are shit. If the chainstays aren’t failing the pivot bolts fall out. Customer service outside the US is non existent.
I have a very nice 6.6 frame hanging on my wall cause I couldn’t bring myself to sell it to an unsuspecting buyer.

quite scarce i think the anthem 29er is.

Been in Australia for around 2 years and are everywhere on the streets and trails.
There were quite a few problems early on but they are very cheap so remain very popular.

as of the beginning of July the forestry have handed over the area from Glyncorrwg upto the rhigos and bwlch to the contractors of the new wind farm

Does this mean that the wind farm is going ahead now?

I haven’t heard otherwise but I don’t usually use it cause Afan is my local trail.
There is some talk of the Brechfa Blue/Black trails being closed due to some maintenance of the pipes next to the roads or something.
I’m not sure of the current status of this.

Do the W2 instead. Its a great day out.
I’d suggest starting from Glyncorryg cause the cafe is better to finish at. Its better to do the Whites climb on fresh legs too.
Brechfa is great but there’s not much services there in comparison.

A little disappointed to find out this way (page 3 of this forum) rather than an email from the organisers. Pretty poor really still the money can go to charity.

Bugger …. I’ve been training up for this one.
For me it was a personal challenge to complete the 100k.
I might just have another glass of wine now

The other option is to put some 24 inch BMX wheels on to lower the bottom bracket height again!

Really nice pics. If I had to crash on that trail I would be quite happy with that mound of grass that he’s about to taste.

Problem with just putting longer forks is you’ll raise the bottom bracket height and the overall centre of gravity.
This can negatively affect cornering and overall stability.
I’d go for the head angle adjuster though I hope you have a 1.5 inch headtube.

Not at all I really appreciate you sharing.
Do you know if its possible to ride along the top of the ridge between Disgwyla and Y Das?
The last time I was there I considered giving it a go.
That would eliminate the need to do the long shove up Y Das.
You could come from Crug Mawr follow the ridge to the summit of Y Das then do the rocky descent to the reservoir.

Thanks for your maps. I see you have an X for the path between Y Das and Disgwylfa. Does this mean that it is unridable?
I have thought that might be an alternative to Y Das and have been meaning to give it a try.

Geez man haven’t you learnt the golden rule of mountain biking.
The required number of bikes one should own is N + 1 where N equals the number you currently own.

I have done that killer loop before and was very disappointed. The stuff through the farms early on was very slow going and frustrating. Y Das is completely unridable and very hard to push up too.
The long descent at Crug is fantastic as is the run along the river to the reservoir. I’m trying to find another way to the top of Y Das which is more ridable.
I did the Mynydd Llangorse loop today which is on the edge of the Black mountains and was completely blown away by how good it was.
Happy to send you the GPX if you like.
    Its published in this book.

Back to the OP. For the uses you need them for – road and light off road I would go for these new tires.
I use the 26er versions on my hardtail and think they are a great tire.
I quite enjoy trail riding with them too.

Summer? Still waiting for it. For me I just see varying winter days.

I was gonna post a siilar thread.
Had an amazing ride yesterday arvo. Back to basics for me.
Decided to leave the FS bike with all the bling at home and go for a spin on the hardtail commuter.
With some runners, flats, and semi slick tires sliding around in the mud was amazing fun.
The hardtail reminded me how to ride properly again too!
Had some scary descents sliding down the sides of some hills but the confidence of not being clipped in and being able to bail at any moment was heaps of fun.
The heavy downpour came of course so it was into the pub for a couple of pints before heading back out onto the trails again.
I’m never one to head out in the rain but this was much more fun than I would have ever anticipated.
I felt like a schoolkid again.

I am tempted just to glue it in place as I don’t plan using the camera anywhere else and it drives me mad!

    Thanks!
I guess you mean the little bracket that you click into the chest plate. The only other use for that bracket is for the stick on mounts. I don’t trust them anyhow. I might try the same or some silicon as per the post above. It destroys the clip!!

Fantastic video. Really makes me want to go there.
Now tell me what is that knocking noise?
I have the same problem and it only happens with the chest mount. When I mount the cam on the bike it doesn’t happen. I always assumed it was the chest mount banging on my heart rate monitor strap.

Avoid the bonty offerings, very delicate sidewalls on them

That hasn’t been my experience at all.
I’m a reasonably heavy rider at 105kgs and ride in South Wales which is pretty hard on tires.
I’m running 29-4 and 29-3 TLR and think they’re fantastic.

By contrast to above I trashed my Maxxis Ignitors and Crossmarks in no time on the same trails
