If you think about it, her mindset is positive.

Wanting to keep up with people faster and stronger is great. Just always make her sure it’s fun, which I’m sure you do.

Or is there a correction coming and its bet to wait a bit longer?

Don’t sweat the random little swings.

Investing is a 5 year plus thing.

and our economy is $a bad joke, hence the drop over a period when globally markets have been on an absolute ripper.

You seem to be suggesting buying the thing that’s already a the top of the market. Classic investment psychology mistake.

Diversify, keep low cost, buy and hold.

    Great dad skills.

These are firmly on the radar for the jump from 20 to 24. Cheers!

I guess in December you need to look at west/south Sri Lanka. I always fancied getting to Yala National Park.

Yep, down Bentota way around to Galle. It’s quite fun to book a hire car with a local company, you’ll get an old Toyota with a few dents, they’ll deliver to the airport and then there is the new Chinese made highway down the coast. We don’t really like having a driver and are used to dodgy driving although this was off the scale. A few 5 star places, the Riu is good, to have some posh days. and then a few quality home stay.

Kerala is massive. It’s best to pick one of two bits and do it well. The backwaters are epic on a private rice barge with a chef, etc, for maybe 3 days. Also, we liked the Varkala end near Trivandrum and also trekking through the tea plantations around Munnar. Green Frog look amazing for bike tours in that part of the world.

When I ask what they actually did last weekend they all say “went to the mall”

Travelling to Asia from the Middle East is fantastic but it’s not a weekend thing. I’ve just got back from a trip to a farm and going to the beach tomorrow as the start to my weekend with a bike ride Saturday, I think. Family pootling rather than holiday stuff.

Not sunbathing weather, it rained today, but 22 degC all day so still shorts and t shirts. Set fine for this week 24ish and sunny. Winter is fantastic outside weather but I wouldn’t fly 7 hours and be happy it’s “holiday” weather. You want April or October for that.

It’s very easy to slip into mall life for many!

He’ll be fine but all the way to Japan for 10 days at 13 seems a weird choice by the school.

If that’s what it is then go for it. He’ll have a blast.

Power and volume down key held down to boot up I think.

Samsungs go a bit weird when the battery is kippered if that’s a possibility.

I had the Pfizer BioNtech jab and the only after effects were a slightly sore arm the following day.

It’s all pfizer where I am. I’d say 90% have the mild sore arm 24 hours after. About 5% seem to feel “fluey” but that correlates with those who tend to feel fluey and have random “24 hour bugs” from work. Harsh but true… That’s about it though.

Sample size of about 80 from my place.

Living in the ME, I can see why you’d want to go to Dubai for Christmas. On paper you’d get winter sun, a slap up Xmas all you can booze brunch, and fancy hotels. It’s ok, but expensive and soulless. It’s shopping malls and trout pouts on the beach.

It’s a nice part of the world to live in during “winter” but that’s because living means going to the park, your beach, camping in the desert, or just with a paddling pool in the garden. You’re also certainly not guaranteed the best weather. It rained today and is going to again tomorrow am. Check the weather forecast for Doha. We actually look forward to the rain.

    However….

Most expats living in Dubai/Abu Dhabi/Doha /Kuwait, etc travel elsewhere at Xmas. Put it simply, they get away.

Spend a bit longer on a plane and go to the southern hemisphere. Sri Lanka or Kerala would be my choice normally but with COVID I’d look at Vietnam. Also look at Zanzibar, South Africa, Bali and Palawan as a rogue option. Far, far nicer parts of the world to holiday in and you’d save a packet on hotels, although flights are more.

    go goa

No, if you’re thinking of Goa then go to Kerela or Sri Lanka unless you’re on a gap year.

(actually, go to Nepal but not at Xmas)

((I’ve been to, and enjoyed, them all, not idle speculation))

The same Nestle vending machine concept applies for 99.9% of companies. Fossil fuels in employees vehicles or to heat premises, Amazon cloud hosting of websites, etc.

I’m sure they’re a great company but it’s always going to be minimising not eradicating impact.

As it’s Adam Sandler it will be average or astronomically shite, some of his earlier stuff was ‘Ok’ then it just rapidly turned to the same churned out rubbish.

Uncut Gems was released in 2019.

He makes different kinds of films for different audiences.

Hard, as always, to look past Vanguard.

    Vanguard ESG

Over 4000 companies on there so very diversified.

One thing though, I’m sure they sell Nestle chocolate bars in vending machines at the Tesla.

Reducing impact of investment should be a goal not being a purity test.

    1. When it’s damaged.

    2. When it’s got a bit smelly, probably after about 5 years (straps are hard to clean properly).

    3. When I fancy a new one / spot a “bargain”.

    4. After 8 years in case of UV damage.

    (I haven’t made it to #4 yet.)

    I agree.

Amusing that right wing politicians have blamed the increase in wind turbines in Texas for the power outages.

Reason being that it brought attention to the fact that the winterised (I know) modern turbines are working overtime in strong winds, who’d have thought it, and it’s the fossil fuel infrastructure that’s largely failed.

    Classic own goal.

There made by Nissan so reliable and cheap.

However, they are compromised by the faux SUV shape on a small hatchback. You get very little space in the boot and back but they do have a “modern” shape that some like.

I’d go for the Versa myself if I wanted a Nissan hatchback, but it doesn’t look like a Juke or Qashkumquat.

They’re all right but hated because they’re all style over substance without the actual style.

I remember doing the firefighter one quite a few years back. It was embarrassingly low, certainly not 8.6.

What was more interesting was that when they said you “could” stop if you wanted, about two thirds did. Muppets. Only one in fifty got in back then so that was not the attitude. They stopped you at about 10 something which was the “real” test.

Just download one of the millions of bleep test apps out there. Do a max test to work out where you are. Then, as training, do the test but leave a level in the locker. Rest for 3 mins and repeat.

Or, play lots of invasion sports/do some sprints.

I remember calling someone to arrange an interview after a job application.

They had a mocking voicemail that did the “hi…….. hi…… how are you?…… yes…. Oh really…. ” thing to try and make me have a fake conversation.

It did start me trying to converse and was done in a snide and pathetically giggly way.

We were overflowing with candidatew so I left a message saying I was calling about a job interview but decided not to go forwards with it based on their unprofessional voicemail. A learning moment, I hope. Probably not…

It was amusing to see Trump interviewed on Fox about Limbaugh’s death and simply use it as a reason to put words in a dead man’s mouth saying how great he thinks Trump is.

    Sums those two up.

Unfortunately, when some people die, the world becomes a better place. I’m not celebrating his death but I’m certainly not mourning his loss to humanity.

gmail ignores fullstops in usernames so

    Thank you!

I’ve ended up receiving some emails to first.last@gmail.com instead of firstlast@gmail.com and it was confusing me.

    You learn something every day.

    OP:

I had something similar recently where I’d received a “legit” email not to for me. Funnily enough, it was also from a solicitor.

I replied with “this isn’t meant for me” and they were very happy as it was a genuine mistake for a similarly named person and I didn’t slow things down after their mistake.

Only in rural areas and the stoves should have the equivalent of the probe in the exhaust pipe MOT emissions test.

Probably a stop on new installations of them soon.

ie, not a ban, but regulated and phased out.

    Side issue.

My wife gets very little Deep Sleep so I used the same app to measure mine. I got quite a few hours consistently which also meant I got in trouble for it as though it was selfish.

    Very amusing.

I’ve also got very wide feet.

New Balance do wide options. Their Fresh Foam Roav are super comfy due to their knitted upper and soft cushioned sole.

I use them for general use but I’d also be happy to run/gym in the. Not secure or grippy eniugh for trail but NB might do other versions with a trail sole.

To be honest, you’ve probably nailed it with the Altras!

    I’ve got 3…..

Two British ones, for the allowing travel and visas from bickering countries, and a new shiny Irish EU one.

He’d entered the country on one passport and had tried to leave on another.

Yeah, I almost did myself with that travelling to India. Visa under one passport number and took the other one. Oops. Just blagged it and got away with it!

Seemed like a no brainer under the current conditions to get an EU one. My kids also qualify but have to go through registering as a foreign birth first. This is may take some time as they are British passport holders born in the Middle East. Gonna be a lot of paper. Also has to be done solely face to face on consular visits by a roving diplomat. The joys!

What is wrong with some people.

    Glued up ringpieces, probably.

Also got an S10e and one of the big reasons is to avoid an edge screen.

The Galaxy phones are great but their big downside is the edge screen. I wouldn’t mind but it’s also annoying so lose lose!

It’s all marketing. real food is best but if you want convenience and don’t care about flavour then go for expensive food replacements. You’re probably not working as hard as you think you are relive to professional athletes, who mostly get by with proper food apart from stuff they consume during comepetition/hard training/making commercials for sponsors and that is because beans on toast doesn’t fit well in your pockets. Apart from that chocolate milk.

OK, one thing at a time.

“It’s all marketing”. Well, it’s not, it’s about making choices about the food you eat. “Real” food is also subject to marketing.

“real food is best” best at what? Best also includes cost and convenience. Many would do well on organic fillet steak everyday, but see above.

“if you want convenience” I do. This is the main reason for me using whey protein.

“don’t care about flavour” Nope. Modern whey protein has fantastic flavours.

“expensive food replacements”. Similar, or even less, than what you’d pay for the same amount of g protein from chicken breast/milk.

“You’re probably not working as hard as you think you are relive to professional athletes” So what? I’d like to receive the benefits of modern “professional” level nutrition whatever my level of training. There’s need vs want right here.

“because beans on toast doesn’t fit well in your pockets” a rolled up peanut butter sarnie in clingfilm does though and is a good option.

“chocolate milk” here’s the ingredient list for choc milk.

I’ll stick to my whole milk, banana, frozen berries and pure unflavoured whey protein powder. Not even on the same planet for macro and micro nutrition.

A service is a lot more than oil and filter change. There will be a long checklist of things and those will be done by a main dealer. You will be able to get the full list. an independent may be cheaper but will they systematically work thru the inspection list?

This is the difference between and oil and filter change and a service, right here.

Again, as mentioned above, I’d go for a quality independent.

Hard to look past a quality second hand Concept2 as, if you look after it, you’ll sell for similar.
