Oh God have you read ANY of this thread.
I used the word “some”, which you’ve not read or ignored, ironically.
And what gives you that power?
No-one, it’s my opinion.
This type of response to someone’s opinion is what is holding back more meaningful debate.
hugoFree MemberYou say investing but then from what you say it sounds more like gambling.
If it’s actually investing then get a Vanguard ISA and stick the cash in an index each month such as Lifestrategy.
If it’s gambling but trying to outdo the mathematical chaos of markets and endless thousands of finance analysts then I’m not sure.
I love that you’re looking to put money away each month. I’d advise reading some books such as the Bogleheads guide, A random walk down wall street, millionaire teacher, etc.
hugoFree Membertotally feminine woman, with a penis?
I’m going to go out on a limb here but I’m not sure someone is totally feminine if they have a penis.
(people should bang whomever they want though)
hugoFree MemberHumans have two genders, male and female.
However, people should be allowed to identify with either as they feel comfortable.
Here’s the double however, however…
It you give people an option to opt out and be different by having no gender then some will want to take it. People like to be different, like to feel like they’re a special case, and, I say this with caution but experience, some like the attention that being different brings.
There are two genders, pick whichever one you want, but pick one.
hugoFree MemberEdit.
I was going to point out the obvious but it’s your money! Good luck!
hugoFree MemberDear John Smith,
I would like to confirm my resignation from the position of World Legend.
Many thanks,
Washington Irvine

Anything more meaningful should be said face to face, possibly over a pint, but all positive. Even if you want a whinge, make sure it helps the person you’re speaking to.
hugoFree MemberCertina DS Action Diver
That’s an excellent watch for the money. Looks good and new swatch group powermatic 80hr automatic movement.
hugoFree MemberFor me, ankle support simply means letting less water in the top on a boggy surface.
If a boot is restrictive enough to stop me inverting my ankle then I’m certainly not going to want to walk in it.
Trail runners for the win in 3 seasons, with either gravel or water gaiters. Gore tex trail runners, possibly with waterproof socks, for the 4th season!
Hate restrictive boots…
(If I had an ankle problem then I’d tape it properly with non stretch tape then still wear the above)
hugoFree MemberTo be fair, I’d still be ranting if it somehow affected older, richer, white Tory voters as well.
Voter suppression is voter suppression
Totally agree, being against voter suppression isn’t a partisan issue for me. The more people that vote, the better, whomever they vote for.
Stop answering the repeated bad faith question, just call them an idiot
This approach led to Brexit. You were either pro EU or labeled a racist idiot. Rather than educating people and changing minds we just cemented people’s views by making them defensive.
I’ll stick to answering questions with well reasoned and argued thoughts if that’s OK.
hugoFree MemberI could be making stuff up to win an internet argument) but I work in banking technology after a fairly long stint in the energy industry, so I kinda get paid to know about this stuff
Major parents’ spare room energy here.
hugoFree MemberThe environmental arguments are red herrings by whiny little b1tches who don’t understand cryptographic technologies.
I sense the word you’d understand best would be triggered.
The environmental cocerns are real whether you have a PhD in block chain technology or not.
hugoFree Memberwhere do you think the majority of electricity in US / UK comes from to power Tesla’s?
That argument used to hold water but doesn’t any more.
I’m 2010 the UK’s produced 6.5% of it’s energy from renewables.
In 2020 this was 40.2%.
Electric cars are clearly going to be better for the environment going forwards.
hugoFree MemberGoogle is an advertising company. It produces products that cause people to use them so they can advertise to them and shape their spending habits. They also have a range of IT products that they design and sell to people.
Facebook is also an advertising company. They create value by, again, advertise to people on a huge scale in exchange for supplying social networking and photo management.
I’m not sure what your point is, sorry.
Maybe, using a manufacturing example threw you? Companies products can be many things such as accountantancy, vetinary services or a modelling agency. The point is that they produce something that someone wants to use and buy.
Bitcoin has no intrinsic use or value.
hugoFree MemberNo value creation? Are you for real?
Yep, no value creation.
If you buy a share in, let’s say, Rolls Royce, then they will create value because they turn engineering knowledge and raw materials into jet engines using specialised equipment.
Bitcoin miners turn electricity and IT knowledge, plus computer equipment, into, errrrr, a commodity that has no intrinsic value, just perceived value.
Since the beginning of their DOW Jones, the US stock market as compounded at an average of 10.8% a year. This is incredible. Just do this.
If, as an 18 year old, you put 200 quid a month into a index tracker Vanguard ISA, and assuming 8.8% instead of 10.8%,you’ll still have just over a million at age 60 and easily over 1.5m at 65.
Or stick it in Bitcoin.
hugoFree MemberI played hockey for years with the astro burns that follow that.
Navy sheets are your answer.
hugoFree MemberLast Week Tonight on recycling
“Recycling” is a scam to keep firing out endless plastic in the name of capitilism.
It puts the responsibility on the consumers, essentially victim blaming you if you don’t/can’t, rather than not giving it to you in the first place.
Think about frozen pizzas.
The economy ones come in a super thin polythene bag.
The expensive ones come in a thicker plastic bag and brightly coloured, glossy box so it gives a more “premium” sense, hence the expense.
You’re not buying a much better pizza, you’re getting a slightly better pizza and a load of environmental waste to make it look nicer.
Packaging, especially secondary packaging (a box, sleeve on top of what is needed) should heavily regulated.
We shouldn’t even need a plastics recycling bin for each household. If M&S can put their fish fingers just loose in a card box then I’m sure everyone else can, too.
hugoFree MemberCrisp open necked white or blue shirt. Get your lighting right and background correct. Check your connections and mike beforehand. Be more animated than you would otherwise be
As an ex Head of Internal Recruitment I totally agree with this.
A crisp and correctly fitting blue business shirt is an absolute winner. Even if the other person is wearing a tie or suit you won’t look out of place.
It also doesn’t look overkill if the other person is in a polo shirt and jeans.
Lighting is super important, unfortunately, and I say this because image should count less than content. Turn off that overhead light, get a nice bright and warm light behind the camera, avoid cluttered or totally plain, cell like, backgrounds.
People make decisions on candidates withing the first 30 seconds and if you appear in the screen bright, without shadows under the eyes and are full of life/humour then you’re on the right track.
Also, if you have potential distractions, kids, pets, etc then use them to your advantage. Nothing breaks the ice and makes your seem real and approachable than joking that “at some point in this interview there is the possibility that my beloved labrador/toddler will make a surprise appearance. I can only apologise!”
Above all, good luck, and just be someone that they would want to work with. You’ve already passed the criteria test with your CV.
hugoFree MemberThey shouldn’t be driving if they are physically unable to stick to quite a simple rule.
I absolutely guarantee that you have driven at 71mph on a motorway before.
hugoFree MemberIt’s because there’s a government out there whose actions you’re not allowed to criticise or you’ll be labeled antisemitic.
Killing children is “self defence” and you’re not allowed to say otherwise or YOU are the problem.
Don’t worry though, the UK provides the weapons, at a profit, to kill the kids. Win win.
hugoFree MemberI’ve plumped for GCN and love the zero adverts thing. Also, it just works, if you know what I mean.
Missed out on the 20 quid offer but will happily pony up for the 40 quid when this month runs out.
hugoFree MemberThis is a huge deal and should be front page news.
Why does voting ID mean voter suppression rather than just reducing voter fraud?
Because the people affected would be younger, poorer and less-white (potential) voters.
These people are less likely to vote Conservative, hence the policy.
There is no evidence of voter fraud in the UK. This is an invented scare issue that’s being used to tip the scales.
Hope that helps.
hugoFree Memberthere should be zero tolerance for speeding.
I’d let someone off for doing 70.01mph on a motorway, but hey, we’re all different.
The whole Tory house of cards is based on populism nowadays
Many popular ideas are good and this is one of them. The money can be spent better elsewhere.
A policy is a policy independent of who implements it. You may hate the Conservative party but that doesn’t make everything they do evil and everything Labour does as good.
hugoFree Member100 miles isn’t a huge amount and so I’d rather be comfortable, safe and not destroy my kit than chase efficiency for road bits. Also, bike touring should involve smelling the roses, go for the HT and spin up some hills!
hugoFree MemberIt is also a damning state of affairs when someone advocating torture is considered a moderate.
To be fair, Obama didn’t say it this publicly but he also didn’t close Guantanamo Bay or persue any kind of prosecution for the torturers.
America has a long history of using torture. They only look to stop it when it’s carried out by other governments…. but… only those that have America’s oil/minerals under their sand.
For example, Assange, for all his faults, outed US torture in black and white. The result was not to arrest the torturers it was to go after him.
Cheney is awful but she still just represents the establishment line, left or right, that torture is OK but please don’t talk about it, or mention it, or we’ll come after you.
hugoFree MemberThe woman behind the counter thrust a menu in my hand and practically begged me to ring them to order next time.
This is really important. Support your local takeaway and not investment bankers.
hugoFree Memberperhaps I should say fanny instead.
No, you really shouldn’t, it’s not 1986.
Sometimes babies also have congenital conditions, much like my friends. This made those people making snide comments feel pretty bad in hindsight.
hugoFree MemberEmigrate? I did.
The system just doesn’t work in the UK at the moment. House prices are ludicrous compared to salaries. Tax is high for workers, which I don’t have a problem with if everyone pays it, but companies such as Amazon pay zero on billions meaning schools, healthcare and infrastructure are crumbling.
We both teach and our quality of life would be through the floor back in the UK.
This is a shame because if the system worked then we’d live there.
It doesn’t so we’ve taken our UK taxpayer paid for education abroad. We’re doubly bad because we own property in the UK and so we’re absent landlords pushing up prices and paying zero tax on the revenue.
Broken system and a real shame.
hugoFree MemberTrying not to sound like a doorknob and failing.
Ours broke and our nanny, who has done loads of domestic jobs over the years, requested a hoover whirlwind one.
Wouldn’t have ever thought about one but it’s powerful, bagless, small, lightweight and cheap. I’m sure something like a Dyson is “better”, but life is too short and it was both reasonably priced and available in my local Carrefour.
hugoFree MemberCycling a means of transport is very green even if using an ebike.
Driving to use a bike for a non essential leisure activity has never been green. There’s worse things in life though and all journeys are different.
Leisure, however, is important and riding an e-bike around a trail centre is fun. A balance needs to be found and more trails made available locally, especially near cities.
For example, in Manchester, there’s definitely potential for a specific trail around the water parks and Mersey, that can be reached on bike easily. Has never happened.

hugoFree MemberNow come on, those sorts of terms belong in the seventies… 😉
How about…
He’s basically trying to have consensual intercourse with as many shags as possible
The question is, European shags or African shags?
hugoFree MemberI had one as a 4 week hire car and was very impressed.
That’s all I’ve got!
hugoFree MemberSeems like a huge premium over a bike, such as the Whippet, for an incremental increase in performance.
If cost is a big factor then a cheaper hike and return flights to somewhere amazing, like Nepal or Kerala, to bike trek.
(maybe give it a year for covid!)
hugoFree MemberIn the name of science a buzzed my face with the balding clippers.
Wouldn’t recommend. Generally stressful and and caught a couple of times on skin not kept taught.
Great for the scalp. Not the face.
