The Mavic ones I had on my crossrides were pants though
Ironically if I was still having issues I was planning to stick the ugly Mavic ones back on that I had with my Crossrides :)

In my mind the only way this could be happening is somehow the cam not seating in its lowest possible position in the concave recess. The after riding with associated knocks and vibrations it centres itself better in the seat thereby loosening up a bit, maybe some grease or equivalent on the cam / concave seat , to help it centre better when you tighten it up ?? but then again is the dry interface higher friction between the two the only reason why its not flipping open after loosening ?? Just a thought

Its not that they are coming undone, quite the contrary. WHen I check them the lever is perfectly closed like I left it. But takes a little finger to flick it open, as opposed to when I did it up originally where it was a full palm of the hand effort

“as they can slacken off slightly and/or not do up tight enough in the first place.”

Maybe not me then

I ride a 24lb 26er epic and recently tried a 29er anthem. If it wasnt for tiny insignificant issue of 2 and half grand, I’d have had the 29er in a hearbeat for marathon racing.
Personally, if its for marathon and endurance racing. 4 hours in to the event and usually feeling less than tip top. the last thing I want is a whoop inducing fun, involving and super sharp handling ride, uninvolving, roll over stuff with minimal input and stable will do me nicely ta :)

New type, its weird like they dont sit square into the concave cups at first and then settle down. Must be me, maybe I am just not tightening enough in the first place, although Its not exactly rocket science doing up a QR !

Usually about 1- 1 1/2 hrs of a structured interval session. However the last 3 sesions have lasted approx 10 mins each as I have got off, 3 times in a row ! Maybe its time to layoff the trainer for a while as I must be suffering from low motivation

Tried a 29er Titus Rockstar, loved it. Carries momentum totally unlike a 26er, didnt think it screamed up the steeper non technical climbs in the same way as my 24lb epic though. But when the thing was up to speed, rolling through the undulating quicker terrain was effortless. I have a 26″ zesty for all my general fun riding duties, which I have no intention of changing, however financially cant justify replacing the epic for race/marathon duties with a 29er.
So I am now deperately thinking of reasons why the epic will be better, and being red is not really doing it ! and I am struggling…..And you lot are not helping, by saying how quick they are !! confirming what I am trying to mentally deny :-)

My Zesty needs some serious bailing out after a wet ride, I do it every ride now, which has become a bit more of a PITA since fitting a remote dropper post, having to snip cable ties etc each time

I consider myself a non violent, fairly tolerant, peace loving person, but I’d like to punch him straight in the face, suprisingly enough Mrs Jengin, is an even more non violent tolerant person and extremely girly in nature, and she has also said she’d like to do similar

Are the polymer ones longer lasting or is it just spin?

Not spin as far as I am concerned, used to replace the lower DU bushing and mounting hardware every 3-4 months or so on my zesty especially during the winter. Since buying a heavy duty mounting hardware and polymer bushing I am now into over 12 months with still no play. Wont use anything else from now on

Flaperon, I think you have it in a nutshell, the black bits at Llandelga have nothing to fear for most people technically, it is simply the case of the speed that Llandelga encourages you to carry everywhere on the trail that is the inherant risk factor.

We were up there too on Sunday, and presumed it was open. Saw the ambulance when we were having a brew afterwards. Hope your ok. The new bits were excellent we thought. As a North Wales local Llandegla in general is the last place on earth we’d ride on a Sunday, but the new bits are good enough to get us back more often. Nice one Llandegla.

Hibike in Germany. Blinking good prices too, but you’ve got to assess whether you want to order from abroad. I think a lot of peeps on here got there droppers from there, including me.

I have a fox 32 float RL 140 on my zesty, I am about 10st 2 lbs as normal bodyweight (not with all my riding kit) I hate a fork thats dives so always ran 75psi but found I wasnt getting full travel even though the fork felt nice in the turns and braking, I have dropped the pressure recently to 65psi and whilst the fork does dive a bit more, it is getting all of its travel and the bike seems to ride more forgiving. In my personal experience setting correct sag on my shock has been a reasonably exact science to getting it set right, but I always found following the theorys on fork sag never worked for me, I always found so many factors affect fork sag like seal stiction and various other things, so whilst I follow the 25% shock rule, I just go with what felt right on the forks. (I reckon if i ran 55psi in my Fox 140’s I’d be smashing them off the bump stop all the time !)

(although they come up quite big compared to other undersized 2.3 tyres, so I paired my fron one with a 2.2 captain at the back. No complaints so far

Yep I enjoyed it. Course was ok, like the OP mentioned a bit muddy in places, which I guess is my reservation about holding it in October. Bearing in mind we have had a week of record temperatures and dry weather it was still suprisingly boggy. I fear the worst if we have a regular Sept weather wise.
Otherwise a nice event, tough for a 52 k’er with 1500m of climbing, which is usually par for the course on a 75k course, well signposted, well marshalled, good vale at £25 and accurate to the distance, so many thumbs up. Pretty technical in places (a couple of times I wished I had my 140mm bike, rather than my 100mm epic) So that should keep a lot of people very happy. Some bits were unrideable, like the drop into the stream, but you cant have it all.
Saw a guy come off over the bars on one of the rocky step downs on one of the earlier sections in the actual trail centre. I cant remember its name but its one of the most technical sections if I remember and comes quite early on in the beast, and has a number of 2 footish rock step downs, maybe someone can help me out with the name of the section.
It was a real nasty one and I cant believe he seemed at first unscathed, his head was inches away from smashing into a rock wall. Hope he’s ok, I think he was on a yellow coloured hardtail. I think he was ready to get up, but his mate kept telling him to take 5 mins, to check collar bone etc.

I think my mates shock was just a plain baddun. It was beyond a tuning issue. He returned it to one one and is waiting to hear back. But it was plain unrideable.

My Mate has the same shock on a brand new Titus rockstar from On-One, and the things didnt work at all, it had what appeared to be full compression damping and full slow rebound dmaping on, and all the adjusters in the world didnt make a scrap of difference

I have a bike with Avid Elixrs on (Specialized Epic) And a bike with Oro’s on (Lapierre Zesty) for me the Formula Oro’s are somewhere between a Million and a Billion times better. Elixrs feel horrible to me in comparison. I am comparing like for like as well, both currently have new Organic pads in ofthe same brand, both are bled well and rotors are clean and centered nicely, and the are night and day, if I currently had the money I would bin the Avids and buy some R1’s for the Epic

Yes the Marin is not a bad little trail. One of the originals, nothing unique or show stopping nothing too scary, but in my opinion just a nice fun trail centre. Takes 2hrs to get round if you take your time, 1 hr 30 mins if you are a whippet.
Presume you mean Penmachno, yes its a great trail centre, little bit more technical than the Marin, if you do both loops allow 3 hours. And its my personal fave, a must do if you are in the area

It never really appealed to me…..ride from one trail centre to the next, slowly. To do a short time trial, then repeat 5 times.Or is it not like that?

Going into it this year I had a similar opinion, on more than one occassion on the run up to the Trans Wales I wondered how the heck I’d been roped into it, as you say the thought of trundling around uncompetetively for 7 days just for a 10 minute blast somewhere seemed a little pointless. However the reality for me was so much different. It was a brilliant week, probably one of the best cycling experiences. And the initial thought that it would be mostly uncompetetive was so wide of the mark. Because the opportunities were limited to where and how much time you could gain or lose, everyone was really fired up for the specials. And whilst the best riders did rise to the top, the gaps were so much tighter and more critical than if someone had pulled out 30 mins everyday on a full timed stage. It added to the competetive tension and fun everyday. So everyone almost had to be more on their game.
