    Pickled or raw ?

Open up hole, drop in some super glue, allow it to relax and close up again, never failed for me. Worthwhile cleaning up the residue on the inside of the tyre at some point though, it hardens (obviously and can wear through a tube if you have to put a tube in there) I actually glue a standard inner tube repair patch on the inside to cover up the area (not to seal the hole, as the superglues done that, but just to protect a tube from any hardened super glue should I need to put a tube in three again)
I think all my tyres running tubeless have a repair like this at some point on the tread. Done once you shouldnt have to worry about it again.

Looks like Crests are the way to go for the XC types by the number on bikes here. Anyone know what a pair of Crests on Hope weighs please ?

My Stumpy Carbon FSR 29er comes in at one hairs breadth under 30 (29.9lbs), setup tubeless with fairly modest kit spec and a dropper post.
Reckon there’d be a couple of pounds to be trimmed with bling kit, but then when I ride it hrough the winter and smash it through the North Wales scenery on a regular basis I wonder why I’d want a £200 rear mech or £1000 wheels

Ok its off the peg spec, but still good in my eyes

The old scouse fella who sits and grins to himself and is permanently asking for a cracker when he’s on diet, makes me chuckle, as does his mrs who just rolls her eyes at him. They’re ace.

All I can say is that I have two MTB’s a carbon specialized 29er stumpy and a Canyon 29er HT, the Canyon is 100% better engineered, manufactured and most of all assembled compared to the Stumpy. The Canyon actually looks like its been built up and finished by someone who actually gives a s**t, I wouldn’t hesitate again

No it’s just a carbon shell that takes a press fit bearing cup straight in. That’s why I am frightened about slackbottom bracket cups which may fret or rotate in the shell thereby wearing the shell. Can’t possibly think that aluminium is softer than carbon, but maybe I am wrong. SRAM ones have been poop. Putting a wheels manufacturing one in tomorrow hopefully if postie is kind
    :-)

    Thanks for the link,
sadly its not going to be any good, as I have 30mm spindle SRAM cranks

I have ordered a Wheels Mfg one, with the Angular contact bearings. Just hope that isnt like a c**k in a sock too ! Then I dont really know what I will do after that. Has anyone found the wheels one a snugger fit ?

Is there any play when you assemble everything?

Not really any noticeable play, but when I fitted it I put a tiny marker on the frame which lined up with the BB to see if it turned in the frame, and yes it did ! Cant feel any wear currently due to the fact it turned, as it only was a quick test ride to see if it rotated plus the cups in theory are softer than the shell (Delrin or nylon I think)

As suspected fobbed off a bit by Specialized customer service guys. I wrote a rather robust Email, suggesting that glueing in cups is a bit of a cop out and a bodge, but got the response that its not considered a bodge and is normal procedure for a lot of manufacturers, and an inference in the nicest possible way that, that is their solution, and they feel that in providing this advice they have fulfilled their obligation. Hard to know how to approach it next.

Can you elaborate on what product loctite make to do the job, I spoke to specialized about what to use and they said 3M DP420. And it seems that stuff is like rocking horse poop

It certainly was cleared since the last report. It was very very wet, but rideable in terms of overgrowth.

Brilliant SOAP that video tells me everything I need to know. thanks, looks as clear as I am used to. By the way, I know that section well, and you rode that pretty damn quick. :-) nice work

Possibly been cleared then. Apparently some of the early downhills on loop 1 were totally covered in overgrowth. Sounds like things have improved. Oh yes it’ll be wet under foot, never known it to be any different on loop 2 especially

Sorry for thread hijack but how was Penmachno riding ? Looking for a venue for a Sunday ride, and I usually enjoy Pen but the last time a couple of our group went about a 3 weeks ago the report was that it was so overgrown that it was no fun at all ! Hopefully it has been cleared.

I asked a similar question a couple of years ago I remember, and someone pointed me towards Halfords own Electrical contact cleaner. Which I was led to understand was very similar if not Isopropyl Alcohol, either way I have been using it ever since and it seems to do exactly what the purpose of IA is always touted as, i.e, mild degreasing, removing adhesive and other residues etc, without doing any damage to surfaces and without and sort of solvent properties. So I am happy to crack on with that stuff

Me and my mate have both have 2013 carbon stumpy FSR 29ers.
Like it a lot. Not the spriteliest up hill, but then neither was the Zesty I replaced it with. But not bad. Really nice over rocky ground, and has improved my descending no end. So a big thumbs up from me. Definately the best all round trail bike I have owned. Stuck a 50mm stem on and a dropper post, and its improved even more for me. This is just my opinion, but I went for the comp level, and at the end of the day, it is really stiff, has a carbon frame and a well dialed and highly regarding suspension system, weighs about the same as a Tallboy LTC which costs in the region of double the money, ok, its a specialized, so isnt going to wow the trail centre car park hero’s but I’d rather have the extra 3k in my pocket and take my family on holiday :)

Had a 159 JTDM in the best spec with Leather etc. No problems whatsoever. When my lease is up on my current boring but practical estate I will be looking at another Alfa for sure. a 159 sportwagon or similar.

Transfer port is the little bump about the size of a grain of rice on the aircan of a fox airshock unless I am mistaken. Can I also have a fiver on Simon from Loco too, being as that he is a professional and damn fine fox suspension tuner / technician..

Thanks for the heads up on that one. Just checked, sadly none in stock in the size I need. Would not mind trying to find a specialized command post but can’t find a deal anywhere

I’m in the same dilemma I have a carbon stumpy 29er with internal routing..hmmm. I am not sure how much water stays in there TBH, and whether it needs draining, but I am coming from a LP Zesty that went through Bottom brackets regularly due to water sat in the bb, This improved dramatically when I got in the habit of draining it after every ride. Which is why I do it now.

Yep I did, Bought it, spent a lot of time adjusting cables keeping levers etc clean- relubing etc. general faffage, only to find that on most rides I maybe used it once at the most. So decided to unburden myself from an extra maintenance commitment, and sold it. Since then I have discovered more times that I’d probably use it during my general riding, and rather wish I’d kept it. Hey ho you live and learn

Bought a 29er from Canyon last year, only have positive things to say about the purchase. Communication, quality of assembly, build and shipping all spot on. I wouldn’t hesitate again.

Yes, when 20, as above, I started getting more than the accepted level of tonsillitis type infections, so dived in hastily and paid privately to have it done. Post-op was absolutely grim, I was also 3+ weeks to recover, first 10 days I didnt move out of bed I felt so rough. In hindsight I’d want to be damn sure it would make some serious benefit to my general health before going through that again !

It just dries up like most liquids eventually, faster in the warm summer, slower in the winter. Personally I just deflate, break the bead put another scoop or two in and pump them up every 3-4 months, there is nearly always a little bit left in there, but considerably less than starting with. Its no big deal, once they’ve been on tubeless for a while I find them considerably easier to re-seal the next time. In fact I am doing a couple of top ups this evening…Rock and Roll
