Great clips! My son cut his teeth on a Hotwalk. Very stable geometry!

This was him when he was two on a balance bike – he did have quite a nasty off shortly after where he didn’t quite make it up one of the jumps, and rolled back down before smashing backwards into the deck.

He’s a tough little cookie but I felt awful running to try and catch him and not making it.

I always pick him up with a ‘great crash!’ rather than shrieking and asking if he’s hurt – he’s seen enough YouTube clips of Danny Mac and co to know that even the best get it wrong sometimes!

Looks like Newstead Abbey to me??

Nope, just on a lane near where I live.

The price hike will continue to boost the second hand value of the older ones which is nice!

Great bikes – currently have two in the fleet and will be adding a third pretty soon I’m sure.

Wifey has just told me that his bars came loose today while he was riding down some steps – don’t want to think about how much trouble I’d have been in if they’d gone on that run!!

Somehow it ended up as a ‘trending video’ on YouTube and has 1800 hits in 2 days complete with some very bizarre comments!

Dexter is my fave of the moment – loving it! First 3 series on Netflix.

Will move onto Breaking Bad when I’ve finished.

I’ve got one and really rate it. Sizing comes up quite snug and it’s a pain unzipping and removing the sleeves when hot and sweaty, but the windproof front panel works well and the full length zip means you can let as much breeze in as you please.

I find it too warm for hot days, even with the sleeves off but I’d certainly get another. Evans price matched mine so I could try it on.

I must admit I have been perusing mini armour today – at least gloves, knee and elbow pads.

Ha ha! He’s a bit of a speed demon and does have very good balance on the bike so happy for him to go as fast as he likes within reason. He’d spent the previous 15 minutes practicing skids so knows how to brake well.

I did go quiet when he got the tankslapper but he want back up and did it again so didn’t scare himself too much.

Haven’t ridden an i-drive but haven’t the Atherton’s all been significantly more successful on their i-drive GTs than they were on their Commencals which suggest they might not be complete cr4p?

I fitted a new XTR Shadow Plus before my Chamonix trip and it is now looking suitably well used!

They’re great – am sure you’ll love it.

    Maverick ML8 – 31lbs

    XTR 2 x 10
    Talas 36s
    Reverb
    Bonty Rhythm Pro scandium wheels

Had it down to 29lbs at one point with lighter parts and tyres but it rides really well now and still climbs brilliantly.

Frame is 7lbs so relatively lightweight build kit I guess?

20 years ago this Christmas I got my MTB – I went to the local Raleigh dealership with my mum and dad to look at a Montage, and one of the lads who worked there asked quietly if we’d be interested in a second hand bike. Popped over to his house later that day to be met by a 17″ 1989 Rockhopper Comp with Deore gears, Farmer John’s Cousin tyres, a Turbo Saddle, 150mm Salsa stem complete with little roller and some ridiculously narrow bars (am guessing 450mm max) which we picked up for £350.

I was the envy of the entire school as everyone else was rolling around on Emmelles, Al Carters and Raleighs. I raced it regularly in the Leisure Lakes series.

It was very sadly stolen a year later but the insurance coughed up and I got a very nice GT Zaskar for which I saved up for 6 months and bought some Rock Shox Mag 20s.

Hayes BMX track on a balance bike

Good excuse to post this again! He was 2 1/2 in this clip and if anyone knows the Hayes BMX track, they’ll know that it’s quite tall and steep start ramp!

Lots of road bikes use the Campag standard 45 degress bearings so most LBSs keep these in stock.

I love Waggledance! You’ll probably also like Summer Lightning.

My old man was into his real ales in a big way. Jenning’s Sneck Lifter was one of his favourites but it’s a bit heavy going for me.

Thanks for that. I still think that the Russian Ekranoplans were some of the coolest cold war engineering projects.

…. which is about the age they become interesting in many respects.

LOL! Congrats CFH – my third is almost 5 months old and I have just about managed to keep the winter trips to boys only since the first came along 6 years ago – reckon I’ve got another 3 or 4 years of that before the family start coming along and the enjoyment changes dimension somewhat!

    Pair of 250s? Pah!

I usually go behind a Super Air 230 with a phattttt tower. Much nicer wake than a rib, IMHO.

But, engines are soooooo over. Paddles is where it’s at!

    Clicky….

Unsure a Super Air 230 would have handled 60 knots across to the IOW though – 127 litres per hour fuel consumption at that rate!! Spent most weekends in my youth behind a Master Craft or Ski Nautique up on Windermere where single figure water temperatures gave you a good incentive not to come off! That Eton Dorney clip is just insane!

    Bet yes, back on track……

To me it’s like comparing road biking and mountain biking…….
    They’re both ace!

Yes, both ace, but I’ll always choose the same one over the other!

Ditto on the wakeboarding – a supplier took me out on his 10.5m rib with a pair of 250s on the back a couple of weeks ago from Lymington, it pulled me out of the water quite nicely!

    Start ’em young!
    FEEL TEH STEEEEEEEZE!
Love it! Shame about the board, though! Should be skis, really…!

I’ll start em off on skis – think snowboarding might be a bit too physical until they’re 10ish. I used to ski to a reasonable level but had an 8 year break and came back starting on a board. To me it’s like comparing road biking and mountain biking…….

You’ve got me digging out the old pics now which is making me smile a lot! Unsure if I prefer biking or boarding in the Alps – think the latter as I just love the crisp fresh winter air.

Unsure where I’ll be heading off to – have done Tignes for the last couple of years which is amazing on a board – did Les Arcs this year but was a bit disappointed TBH – the snow parks and boarder cross were a bit lame next to Tignes and Val and 1950 was like a ghost town in the evenings!

My sister has a place in Tignes so I’ll probably head there for a week in March. My board is a rather lovely Salomon Special which still rides like a dream and my pants and jacket are Burton AK which I’ve yet to see better.

Think some new boots might be in order as my Salomon Dialogue boots weigh a ton compared with the new Malamutes.

and a snapshot from a GoPro vid where my ‘friend’ wiped me out!

    Can’t wait!

I bought a cheapy balance bike for my daughter to see how she got on with it but it was so shoddy after a year it went in the bin so cost me £45. My son got a Specialized Hotwalk which my LBS sold me for £90 and I sold that a year later for £60 so only cost me £30 and was much more stable and fun for him to ride.

They both now have Islabikes which are expensive, but as stated above, the price of new ones keeps climbing so after 2 years you’ll probably get 85% of the purchase price back!

I did in the latter part of the race, but that was down to my lack of fitness and miles this year! Uusally do most things on the middle and granny which is 32/32.

twojumpers – timelaps managed to miss my team mates final lap but when I spoke to him, it looked like he had to manually enter the race numbers for some reason, and had written down 368 rather than 268 so manually edited it.

Contact them with your race number and the approximate time of the missed lap and you may find something similar happened. I assumed the timing chips did all of that but seemingly not.

I found all of the fast riders perfectly polite when announcing their planned overtakes but I was only passed 5 or 6 times in total (down to luck rather than speed sadly!) so maybe not a true representation.

Gee – I attempted to lend you a saddle as the compere asked if anyone had a spare when you went past half way through but I think the post was the wrong size.

I’ll certainly be back for next year and will hopefully start to get riding regularly again beforehand!

Awesome day! Thoroughly enjoyed my return to racing after an 18year absence.

Gee – very impressive performance – were you on the Salsa? If so, you very politely passed me at one point so I decided to try and keep up down the next descent which I just about did, and then on the next fire road it was like you switched on a jet pack and shot off into the distance!!
