crikey – as you say a couple of very good examples of what I suppose we would be competing against.

Certainly the tweed valley one was what I had in mind for the bunk house side of things.

If you look at the rates there asking and I also had a couple of self contained 1 bed units, I think the returns could work?

Although Im a pipefitter, I have done plumbing, and a keen mtb mate is a NEICC approved sparky and has already said he will come up and work for free accomm.

TJ, Im the same (no not about sharing with Mrs TJ!) if I was with the Mrs I would want privacy.

If I was with a group though bunk style would be fine.

I certainly don’t underestimate what’s involved, but I’m also keen to learn more about what’s involved.

I’m not a gambler and very rarely do anything on a whim (apart from buy bikes and bits) I have worked hard to get to a fairly comfortable position financially and wouldn’t want to flitter it away on a venture that was never going to work.

Im 43 though and feel I still have the gumption to give this a go before it’s too late?

I’ve run my own company for 20 years and do all the books day to day and wages, VAT returns etc, so think I could handle that side.

A course or something in the hospitality industry would be of benefit as you rightly say.

TJ, my ponderings are also very much amateur at present.
Interesting though you say about wanting something above bunk house style, I would hope to have bunk house style accomm with a communial kitchen/lounge, and also a couple of individual 1 beds, still self catering but with own kitchen and bathroom.

CharlieMungus, The Glentress looks very nice, and that’s what Im really asking I suppose, is that what people are looking for and are willing to pay?
Are sleeps 8 type lodges in short supply?

I thought the theory was the heavier rider goes on the front so their weight is more centrally distributed between the wheels?

Or is it just the one on the front fancies the reachrounds?

Sadly I’m going to be a no show for this one, looks like I will be working in Bristol Thursday and Friday.

Been busy with work recently and have been out once for 3hrs on the mb in the last 2 1/2 weeks!

Had to DNF in the National 50TT on Sunday as the legs just said F off when I tried to push 🙁

Only three things you need to remember,
1 Don’t go off too fast
2 Don’t go off too fast
3 DON’T GO OFF TOO FAST!

Did the Welsh 12hr in 2009, superb event, they have an area where you can collect drinks as well as people handing you rice pudding in ice cream cones which believe it or not just hits the spot.

I did not listen to the above advice and paid the price, I went through 100 miles only 20 mins slower than my 100 pb, through 150 miles in a little under 7 1/2 hrs, caught and passed a club mate (who is quicker than me) for 16 minutes!

Then hit the wall, cramp on inside of both thighs and both calfs, got off with nearly an hour left thinking I had gone over 200 (according to my computer) only to have a distance of 199.658 put up on the board.

The triathlon style frame bags are very useful for putting gels etc in, but take some sandwiches cut up small as after 7 or 8hrs of gels and energy drink I was craving something savoury?

I did it on my TT bike, didn’t use my pointy hat as the one I had at the time wasn’t very comfortable and not well ventilated.

I did the end to end a couple of months previous and a couple of 300K Audax’s, TT pb’s were 22.49(10), 56.46(25), 1.59.03(50), 4.23.19(100) at the time I did it.

Better that way then people thinking you have a faulty fork 😉

I have never been mistaken for a racing snake, and at 14st 9lbs on the scales this morning it’s obvious why 😥

Have a reasonable level of bike fitness (average about 7-8hrs per week) and I like to think I have a good ‘all day pace’, did the full Trans Wales last year and was pleased with my efforts.

There was the married tax allowance back when I got married, which I used to buy a GT Zaskar (circa 1992) that’s my excuse.

Still got the bike and the Mrs come to that 😆

If i drive to Winchester is there an alternative for getting back there from Eastbourne other than getting the train and changing at Clapham junction!

    Any local’s have any ideas,

And no I’m not going to ride back with TSY, going to save that for my 2012 challenge when I attempt the SDW double 😯

Been doing the following once a week for the last 3 weeks in an attempt to get some speed for TT’s

    15 min warm up
6 x 30sec flat out with 30sec recovery between efforts
    5 min easy spin
6 x 30sec flat out with 30sec recovery between efforts
    5 min easy spin
5 x 1 min flat out with 1min recovery between efforts
    10 min cool down

    Not been working yet 🙁

My attendance will depend on confirming overnight stay with the fit lesbians in Winchester 😀

And sorting return journey without having to go via London on the train.

Train from Eastbourne back to Winchester goes via Clapham Junction!!

    That’s London aint it?

No wonder it takes nearly 3 hours, I knew there was a reason for not going by train anywhere.

Oh no, psychle you’ve changed it round, I thought you were starting at Winchester?
My wife’s step sister is a really fit lesbian who lives with her also very fit gf in Winchester!!!
Was hatching a plan to drive down and stay there Thursday night then get a train back from Eastbourne and pick the van up Friday evening.
Been looking at doing this for a while (SDW as well as staying with the fit lesbo’s)

I must be doing something wrong, I have felt better whilst doing the diet, I’ve long had an idea that I over do pasta, rice, spuds type stuff after putting on 2 lbs whilst doing both the E2E 982 miles in 12 days in 2009 and TransWales last year.

I do have a potential problem looming, 1st earlies are due for digging soon, followed by 2nd earlies, salads and 2 types of maincrop! (That’s spuds to you townies)

Have averaged 8hrs a week on various bikes for the last 2 years now and don’t seem to be improving, but always thought training plans were for athlete’s and I’ve never been mistaken for one of those, just a portly chap that enjoy’s all types or cycling.

    molgrips,
Mucked up to the extent that I didn’t weigh myself today! trousers that were starting to feel loose are tighter than when I started 5 weeks ago

Racing is a very curious term, I plan to ride round for 6 hours at varying speeds!

At over 90kg the old 1g per kg thing would mean over 3x the iDave recommended?

Im trying to cut back on Cashew’s as well, I blamed them for a bad week last week.

I always have gels as my simple pre/during ride carbs?

And that binge big thing doesn’t work, totally mucked my week up this week!

Not had a good week (even with doing 12hrs riding since last Friday) and hence didn’t get on the scales this morning.

Doing the Erlstoke 6hr Enduro tomorrow, how do I prepare today and do I do it with 30g of carbs per hour tomorrow?

Neither today or tomorrow are planned cheat days!

Fell off the wagon yesterday and had a bag of pick’n’mix at about 3.00pm 🙁

Did go out on my 40mile hilly on the road bike, without any carbs pre, during or after.

Please tell me I would have worked the pick’n’mix off?
