Another big thanks from me for the guys that organised, planned the route etc.

It was a great day, cracking decents (if a bit loose in places 8O)

Don’t think anyone else has put it on here yet, but 20 people in total is quite an achievement too.

I guess so long as you lose no function or comfort from the change it’s a not a bad thing.

Could you not buy a cheap bike and have the frame as an accessory? then sell the cheap bike to fund bits for the frame? surely that’s not ‘breaking the rules’?

It’s a tough call, took me a long time and lot of bike rides to get it clear in my head, felt and still feel a lot better for it though.

Although having said that, everyone’s different so like the other wise sages on STW suggested, take some time out (if possible) and clear your head.

Treat yourself to a decent MTB, then with the cash you’ve “saved” through the cycle scheme, get a half decent road bike (800ish should get you a nice one). If it’s your 1st one it won’t have to be full carbon etc to feel a lot different/more lively than an MTB.

I tried, and got the payment page, and then a timeout, but no confirmation yet, so I guess that didn’t work… gutted!

Hope you have a great time!

I ride in a pair of salomon ‘walking’ shoes, they’re pretty grippy on a pair of V8’s and they’ve got a pretty water resistant top half.

running shouldn’t have an adverse affect on your cycling ability. I spent more time running over winter due to the lack of light, and if anything felt fitter for it when out on the bike.

The only thing would be to not ‘get rusty’ on the old skills/confidence if you’re going straight into something competitive.

how about Marathon des Sables[/url], I know some who’s done that, and said it was pretty extreme at times. Although you’d have to brush up on the running obviously :?

This won’t help with drawing the route, but it’s the O.S. area for marsden, Multimap

MM, definatley up for the penninex (yeah it’s the same as the shredx), the holme valley could be good too & even the colne valley one too, crikey, I’ll have to get fit.

I’ll do my best to keep the sat of the bank hols weekend free, a ride, a few pints & the last train back sounds good.

    Cheers MM & theflatboy

You don’t need to be superfit for the penninex, it’s a lot of up and down (like everthing around here), but a great atmosphere. Think it’s 5th July this year.

There’s also one of a similar length from Hade Egde above holmfirth, that’s great too, less road sections, but harder going. Think the scouts run that, but can’t find a date for it this year.

The train fare is a pain, and having ridden up the road between marsden and diggle on my roadie not so long ago, I can see how they get away with it. :-)

It’s all a bit local, I moved out of Diggle last weekend, and am now Mossley based.

If I’m about on the bank holiday w/end I’ll see about joining in one of the rides, there are some great tracks up there, love coming down wesenden valley.

MM have you done or heard about the PennineX that goes from Slaithwaite, done that a couple of times, great fun.

Riverhead is great, spent a few evenings in there sampling the beer. :-)
