nice pub though, and every time I see it on 'the lakes' TV series it makes me chuckle and ring the guys i was on holiday with at the time

Excellent ride, great turn out, good laugh all round.

I've got some piccies to post up, I'll do that this evening…. Penmachno beckons today… will my legs carry me!?!

Cheers Graham for organising, and volunteering me for a 'saddleworth moor' one!

I was up there a week or two ago and it looked like some of the narrower bits had been clipped back, no real vegetation problems that I can remember. There were some sections that were suffering under the amount of rain we've had recently, but nothing boggy, just wet.

In terms of the helmet debate, I think most people would agree that as a learner it's a good idea to wear one, then as you get more proficient you'll want to be stepping up your skills so will probably prefer to wear one again incase you come unstuck in a bigger and more spectacular way. Then when you're happy with that level, you'll move on again (off piste, steeper, bigger drops, etc) meaning you'll probably opt for a helmet again…

It's the same with biking, most people on here would class themselves as more than proficient, and can manage from month to month without any serious off, but would you ever go without your helmet 'just incase'.

    that's my 2p anyway

Yeah, it was a group thing, taster lesson, to see if I fancied coughing up a bit more money, and I do… Didn't expect to learn much to be fair, we were all 1st timers.

I'm sure the learing curve will get a lot steeper, just like the slopes!

720's in two weeks, don't want to rush it

    GrahamS and the rest:

Firstly, cheers for all the help, and horror stories…

I'm here, in one piece, and surprisingly unbruised… to be fair I don't think I got up enough speed to do any damage!!! Just the basics last night, bindings, moving along the flat, using edges to climb, using a stomp pad rather than both bindings, small slope for practicing balance, posture, etc.

Really enjoyed it though, so I think I can add yet another expensive hobby to the ever increasing list.

Now where's my card for these lessons, pants, protection, boots, board, bindings etc!

Oh and cheers for the link to snowboardclubuk too further up the thread. Will be very handy I'm sure.

I've got a Decathlon/b'twin road bike (was approx £500), had it about 12 months, done loads of miles on it, no trouble at all. Very good value in my opinion.

I'll put another thumbs up for a VX220 Turbo, one of my friends had one, it was amazing fun, got plenty heads turned, and I wouldn't worry about badge snobbery, you won't be hanging around long enough to here the end of the sentence "why didn't you get a lotu….."

Seriously though, you've got a massive Vauxhall dealer network, an engine that's in plenty of other cars, plenty of tuning parts if you want 'em. What's not to like.

-long days out on the bike
-comfort food (yorkshire puds, filled with sausage, mash and gravy for me)
    -a good real ale
    -friends
-impromptu naughty 'school nights' in the pub.
-that weird coincidence of thinking of a tune and the radio station playing it.
-bedroom naughtiness (sadly lacking at the moment )

What the hell has happened to Deep Purple

They're still going, infact they've got 5 UK tour dates in November, so don't worry

Seriously though, powdercoating is always an option for that 'perfect' colour choice.

Maybe look at stuff around the Diggle, Delph, Saddleworth end of things? Where are you working?

I'll second that, although I may be a little biased, :-) Nice area, good pubs/countryside/riding. And if your new job is in manchester it's an easy 20-25mins on the train or 40mins by car commute.

take your pick, I live in Mossley, it lays claims to 5 administrative boundaries:

    peak district
    cheshire
    lancashire
    west yorkshire
    greater manchester

personally i'd say it's Lancs, but you can't say that too loudly around here :-)

As the above posts for getting on the router, the list of attached machines could also be listed under a section called 'DHCP leases' or similar.

If you really don't want it to be secure then you could always turn off the router when you're not surfing.. obviously when you're on someone else could be too, but it should cut down freeloaders if it's not regularly available to them.

Yeah, I'll be there, positively local for me compared to last sundays :-)

Has anybody booked the weather yet? Sunshine with patchy cloud seemed to work ok on the last couple of rides, so we'll have the same again whoever's in charge.

Cheers to everyone that turned up, it was a good laugh. I bet that landlord at Hawnby loved us lot dropping mud all over his bar too.

ok, strange ask, does anyone that's coming along have any spare nipples  preferably of the spoke/wheel type, 15 gauge… I appear to have found the source of my wheel wobble!!

If not then I'll be calling on the spare wheel offers!

I've got a decathlon road bike, cost me £469, carbon forks, carbon seat stays, campag kit etc… rides very nicely. Can't fault Decathlon for value, even got a pair of road shoes thrown in to go with the snazzy look keo pedals.

this looks great value too: Rockrider 8.2[/url]

REBA's etc can't be grumbled at for £619, and I guess there's less risk of a bad ride on a 'budget' H/T over F/S frame
