I’m glad she’s OK. Get some rest

I find the 1×11 set up to suit the bike perfectly. I like the simplicity and, don’t find the gear steps to be too big. It’s a 10-42 cassette.

The mudguards are from Swarf Cycles – I didn’t know about them until someone on here posted months ago that Solarider should have them on his bikes! They are things of beauty if you can say that about mudguards.

I had an 800 since they came out and never had a single issue with it. I upgraded to the 820 primarily for the Bluetooth connectivity. I’ve had to reset it a couple of times and I got precisely what you experienced right at the end of my ride today – random scrolling between screens

Clearly I am a t**t. It’s normally takes less than 18 posts to find that out though…

And no he had not indicated for me to come through. I was only behind him for about 15s and the sun was in such a position that he could see my shadow. He looked behind and then slammed on the brakes.

It was in the much hallowed hunting ground of Richmond Park. Given the amount of Castelli he was wearing, the Rapha backpack and a bike sporting eTap and was doing 36km/h+ I would say he was a fairly confident cyclist. It’s pretty difficult not to end up in a drafting situation in the Park as there are so many cyclists.

Generally I thank people I draft and take my turn at the front.

Brake checking was just a particularly stupid reaction in my opinion – ie dangerous

Poly – how much do you ride in Central London?

Juju – would British Cycling be better in your view? Am a member of both

Yes, we have one of the mechanical ones that generates the white noise rather than plays a recording. We got it because we moved to Twickenham and were not used to the Heathrow flight path. We no longer use it and I find that earplugs are now sufficient. However, at the time, it was invaluable

When I was 15 I was putting together a First Aid kit to go camping. I left the room and came back in promptly stepping on a scalpel blade – a lot of blood and no camping.

My BiL was sweeping up the workroom and the brush compressed a Stanley blade lying on the floor – this sprang up directly into his right eye and went in about 50%. He didn’t know what had happened but his friend, having almost fainted, took him to hospital where they took his eye out, removed the blade and then re-inserted his eye. Amazingly he has 50% vision

I’ve got an SME 10. It’s not a sprung TT and needs a solid base. The upside is it needs v little maintenance – none in 10+ years. It sounds wonderful and I think looks good too. However, there are so many components that affect the sound it’s difficult to be truly objective

I’ve just bought Swarf Cycles guargds. They’re expensive but are made of carbon, look amazing and are totally silent – which is surprisingly noticeable when getting on a bike with SKS guards

Thanks all. I’ve taken over what was an owner-managed business which has a history of significant rises. Our staff are predominantly graduates who we train inhouse. There are lots of different factors at play – the sector, being in London, the swing from over to under supply of grads etc.

STW is great. I post a (badly constructed) maths question aimed at 10 year olds and get 48 responses and yet posts on Strava discrepancies and a new bike (albeit challenging the Brompton crown) received nothing whatsoever.

    Oh well…

OK, the rather annoying answer is:

She arrived on the last stroke of 12 o’clock and left on the first stroke of 2 o’clock.

    Scaredypants has it

But I entirely agree with Prezet

Me too – Lynskey Sportive, Thorn Nomad, Roberts Audax, Cotic Soda to name but a few. I need to get around to selling them but never do. I love bikes, have the space and keep thinking ‘one day….’

I have or have had ti bikes from Litespeed, Merlin, Cotic, Lynskey, On One and Seven. The only one that was custom was the Seven. It’s 13 years old, fits perfectly and is an absolute joy to ride. I personally think it’s worth the extra to go custom.

A little similar to Willard. I had a pulmonary embolism in 2014 which put me out of action for a few months – but I laughed at it a few months later when I climbed Mont Ventoux. In 2015 I also got AF and had various treatments – the worst one being when I had a negative reaction to two drugs and needed to be resuscitated in June. I got an ablation in August and, other than having a resting heart rate 20 beats higher, I’m doing more cycling than ever before. Target is 8000km this year and I’ve just come back from an 86k ride to Box Hill in light snow this morning. Given tragic events in our club earlier this week life is precious and we all need to make the most of it.

My son has it. We took him off sport totally for about one month and that made a big difference. We now manage through icing, NSAIDS and the odd day of rest. Some sports much worse than others –

Ton – yes I did thanks. Had the ablation mid August. Resting heart rate is 20 beats higher (should recover) but heart behaves exactly the same as before during exercise

I’m 45. Had some interesting health issues over last two years (PE and then AFib) but found I was like this previously and and now fit again. Other friends – cyclists and runners – also get tired climbing stairs. Why is this??

I have a Brompton S2L and I am not a fan. I’ve Bromtonificationised lots of it and it still hasn’t clicked. It’s fine for short trips but I find the handling lacking over anything more than about 5km. I went 2 speed and titanium to get it as light as possible as I wanted a folding bike I could carry with ease.

I have got involved with the kickstarter http://www.ridehelix.ca which looks like a very interestingly designed folding bike. I should get mine in May/June and will report back then.
