It’s Wonderful Life – Pennywise the clown has a new bike day and goes to BPW.

I like the design and comfort of the kit. However, it’s the only kit I’ve ever had where the stitching comes undone on both tops and bibshorts.

I haven’t used it a lot off road. However, it’s a MASSIVE improvement on the 820. Great battery life, sensitive touch screen and good navigation. The times I’ve used it off road the navigation has worked well.

    About to turn 49.

Interesting last 5 years where I’ve had a couple of ablations for AF, a PE and found I likely have an autoimmune condition resulting in blood clots. So I’m on anticoagulants, beta-blockers and a few other concoctions for life.

Funnily enough this doesn’t affect me too much but I find the small things do – a lot like the aches and pains discussed above. I don’t get them often but they do get me down when I do.

Cycling has proved incredibly therapeutic for my body and mind. I found I was slightly losing my mojo for it over the summer but events like North London Dirt and a bikepacking trip to Mull in two weeks seem to sort me out.

One of the best events I’ve done in ages. Helped massively by perfect weather – G One Speeds 30c worked brilliantly

    SUCCESS!!

84km ride with no drop outs.

I’ve only just received the replacement pedals from Garmin. The batteries had the smallest hint of oil on them so I put a little more on the batteries and contacts.

    Thanks once again.

I’m going to try baby oil right now.

I didn’t know about the Assiomas (which have incredible reviews) – My Vector 3s were originally bought in Dec ’17. My most recent replacements from Garmin came a couple of weeks ago.

    Thanks all

Yes, that’s my approach – an old Condor SS with uninspiring parts.

It’s a fairly kind commute – 24km each way. SS should keep me fit

I fell asleep while my boss was talking to me – it was in my first proper job. I wasn’t fired!

    Always suffered with afternoon tiredness.

Where do you live? I have a friend in SW London who does this and only gets high end bikes to fix. He’s busy year round and is known at the LBSs who send overflow customers to him. He loves it

Document interactions – date, time, place, who was present what was said. You need specific examples of behaviour. Remain unemotional but emphasise how much impact the behaviour is having on you.

    Good luck

Just get it done. They’ll probably be interested to know what happens when you exercise – but ask first!

Depending on how many wires you have you may need to be inventive on cleaning.

By way of update I did speak to them yesterday and they’ve told me to return the pedals using their free return service.

I reckon trisysjoint maybe into something. When the bike shop checked the bearings they said they were not aligned properly and put them back correctly. I think they may have worn. It’s being checked again at the LBS next week.

Not changed or fiddled with anything.

It’s not regular when it occurs. I’m running Dura Ace di2 and the chain is shifting perfectly.

    Thanks for that.

I’ve been waiting ages for the Warbird frame and it’s just arrived at Keep Pedalling. I’ll pick it up in a couple of weeks and now have the fun bit of working out components for the build

5-7 days a week. I’d ride every day if I could – just some work days don’t suit commuting

What does your contract say re confidentiality? How senior are you and how similar is the role you’re going to? Generally non competes are hard to enforce in the UK unless you’re senior and have benefitted from shares/equity.

I think the English Cycles bike is fantastic. GCN has a video talking about it (https://youtu.be/6TEyZLpCRkI). I do think he is head and shoulders above other frame builders in terms of originality.

Generally I think loyalty for a workplace is misguided. It is a professional relationship which either works or does not. Your company would not think twice in making your role redundant if needed.

A bit like ton I’ve had AF challenges for the last 4 years (i’m 48). With a family history of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy I’ve been very careful and have had numerous tests which say I’m clear. AF is what I do have and have had two ablations. I seem to be in normal sinus rhythm after my last one in May 18. I’ve developed an autoimmune condition which means I spontaneously form blood clots so am on both an anti-coagulant and beta-blocker (bisoprolol). I’m still training and it’s only really hill climbing that is affected by the beta-blocker as my heart rate just can’t match the exertion.

I’ve found that I get more ectopics now. Diet seems to be the most obvious connection so it’s worth watching out for what you eat and how much. Caffeine and alcohol really seem to impact me as does too much food. Interestingly my resting heart rate got quite a bit faster post ablation and is in the 60s now where previously it was in the low 50s

To the other posts – I find that cardiologists want to only treat the physical symptoms, hence why originally I’ve been told to stop exercising. I’ve persuaded him of the importance of the psychological impacts of no exercise and he’s relented quite a bit which I needed to hear!

I mentioned a book called ‘The Haywire Heart’ in a post last week. It’s a good read and helped me a lot.

    Good luck!

I developed AF in March 2015. Had a few cardioversions and then an ablation in Aug 2015. All good for just over a year. Trained hard in 2016 and rode 12k km. In 2017 developed paroxysmal AF. Had 6 24hr episodes and one lasting one week. Had another ablation in May 2018. Been fine since although I chose to remain on beta blockers. I still ride lots and the only thing affected is my climbing ability. My cardiologist believes certain endurance athletes are affected – exercise causes micro damage to surface of heart thereby disrupting the electrical signals. Read ‘The Haywire Heart’ for more info.

My resting heartbeat has risen since ablation and I get ectopic beats, particularly after food.

The risk is a stroke as you’ll have read. I’m on anticoagulation for life due to another unrelated condition.

I’ve had AFib and two cardiac ablations. Drs trust a Kardia reading and don’t look at my Garmin data. I’ve diagnosed myself a couple of times using my Garmin HR data but have become very attuned to what my heart is doing.

Hi – two cardiac ablations, the latest in May, for AFib. First one lasted for about 1 year, second one seems to be holding up OK. I was fine post op, had a week off work and gradually started cycling after that

Had Proviz and found it too hot (even the gilet).

Now use the Castelli Mortirolo Reflex jacket. It’s one of my favourite bits of kit. Needs to be cooler temp wise. It vents well, fits well and you can pick it up relatively cheaply (currently £99 at Sigma)

In my experience they’re not very accurate. I’ve got a Frnix 5S and use it merely as a guide

Thanks all. I’m on bisoprolol. I find it doesn’t really alter performance if I’m pushing hard on the flat or on mild gradients. It’s not making me feel tired generally either. Hopefully I’m coming off it in the next few months assuming my ablation has fixed my AF
