    Second the Fiskars saw recommended above; have one and take it out on dog walks.

    Whilst I acknowledge I’ve never seen or used one I do wonder just how easy it might be to use a chainsaw blade to cut a tree – by hand. The Fiskars cuts on both push and pull strokes, unlike a chainsaw blade.

    Probably Fairford rather than Brize?

    Indeed you are correct; I was watching on a small laptop from 400miles away and my eyes are tired!

    Was that the vanilla Gravel Kings or the Gravel King SK’s..? They’re very, very different tyres and I’d agree with you on your conclusion on the former.

    A U2 just off Lincolnshire looks like it’s been over Russia

    Nice spot, just watch it land at Brize Norton.

    Someone needs to do a monitor for price tracking there, like camelcamelcamel does for Amazon.

    Probably have to use logarithic scale for the price axis on the graph…

    @k1100t What size Gravel King SK’s are you after?

    I have a pair of 700 x 40’s that have had very light use and would happily sell on to someone that would use them; the only reason they’re not on a wheelset is because I have a pair on a new 650b wheelset I treated myself to as an incentive to get out on the bike again this year – and its worked!

    Nothing particularly new that I can think of… just getting back into hobbies that have always been there; cycling mojo seems to have returned and have bought first my new bike in four years, good going for me. Started building an RC car kit that I’ve had for eighteen months but that has lapsed as the weather has improved. Haven’t been at the woodturning lathe in a while and have so far made a dozen or so bowls of varying sizes; partially as a result of finding that some of the blanks I cut and sealed a year or so ago are splitting as the weather warms up.

    Oh, and listening to a far greater variety of music since taking up a £4 for four months subscription to Tidal – on headphones as I procrastinate and WFH.

    New bike arrived last wee; think I bought the last available one in my size on the planet – third ride on it this afternoon after flipping the bars for the early 90’s totally horizontal flat bar look.

    There was an F-35 making very jagged shapes over Norfolk earlier this morning… also found that the key ‘U’ filters military or ‘interesting’ activity only!

    Is anyone else waiting for a Flavourly order to arrive?

    @ElShalimo
    @robbo1234biking

    Likewise here; subscribed and placed an order at the end of April and I’ve only just received notification this morning that its with MyHerpes. A accept that they’re busy and like all online delivery companies will have been taken by surprise over the last several weeks – but I was irked to get an email from asking for delivery feedback a week ago.

    @househusband, yours would have been a mark 2, as you got it after riding my mark 2, up in the Pentlands on a ride with me and TJ. At least I presume it was a mark 2, it was certainly different from the initial models, most notably it didn’t have V brake bosses and was not available in orange.

    @ChrisL
    You are of course correct as mine didn’t have the brake bosses!

    Of all the bikes I’ve ever owned, my Mk 1 Soul was the one I felt most connected with. (Mine was one of the very, very few that cracked at the headtube.)

    How much volume do you want/need for the road? You could just use larger volume ‘gravel’ 700c tyres, such as the Panaracer Gravel King SK’s in 43mm. Pretty nippy on the road and not too shabby off-road.

    @joepud I’ve got the Terreno Mix in 38C TNT and in softer, muddy conditions have found them to be much better than the Gravel King SK’s – I still use 47c Gravel King SK’s on my 650 wheels. I did take ages to decide on which to get, the Mix or the Wet versions but the Mix have proved to be as capable as I need offroad but also surprisingly agile on the road. They size up larger than 38mm on my 19mm rims, pretty much 41mm according to calipers.

    Stair (stool/chair) model’s own.

    @kayak23
    What’s the stool for; whittling – carving? You’ll be wanting a cushion for it, obvs… ;-)

    househusband

    @dyna-ti Yup, they are. This is the third (fourth..?) stool I’ve made and the others have round tops made from laminated iroko (from old school science worktops, have a bit of it…) that I’ve turned on the lathe to do exactly that using woodturning tools; they’ve been strips 40mm wide glued up – this was butted together as planks using dowels and a dowel jig I’d made for the job. This ones also predominantly for standing on as there’s another two (with the scallop tops) in the workshop for sitting on – one with three legs and the other on wheels for when I’m welding and want to move about.

    Sorry, folks – another of my stool samples… ;-)

    The last wee stool/table I made was reassigned to living room duties so this new one for workshop is a combined step and stool; three legged so it doesn’t wobble on the undulating concrete and a wide stance for stability – smaller step as either a footrest when sitting wrong way round or step to get up. TIG welded 25mm box section 25mm wire brushed and finished with Owatrol (new and me likey) and recycled iroko finished with Osmo hardwax oil for the step and top. Didn’t want to make the step too big so I could minimise overall footprint yet retain stability.

    @WorldClassAccident Cheers, this piqued my interest for various reasons! Was, briefly an enginering officer in the Merchant Navy, did my cadetship (engineering) at Warsash in late 80’s/early 90’s and know the area well. Also, particularly for a vessel as large as a cruise liner with all its hotel facilities, switching to shore power and back again when ready to depart isn’t as simple a task as one might think unless the technology has somewhat evolved – it did mean a brief blackout when I was afloat.

    It might seem that there’s actually a really simple reason that the Queen Mary 2 isn’t on shore power in Southampton.

    There isn’t any.

    Not yet, anyway; ABP (Associated British Ports) have it as an ‘ambition’ but sounds like there’s issues over funding and technical issues over the available power from the grid.

    Make your own? I bought some thick rubber sheet and used the original mat as a template, removed the original plastic locating grommets and glued them on after making holes. Carious patterns available.

    Not sure if they’ll work for you, but Sonos are currently on offer. about £40 the One speakers

    Save £40 to bring them down to £159, not on offer at £40 – sadly! Just had a look as I was curious myself.
