    Cut..shorter than 780?… All the cool kids will point and snigger if you do 😉

    @BearBack
    The cool kids normally point and snigger anyway – I’m a bloody teacher! 😅

    Eh? 760mm… hate to state the obvious, but 760 isn’t the same as 800 😂

    Eh? Hate to state the obvious but the ones I’ve ended up ordering are 780 and bars, irrespective of original length can always be cut down… 😂

    Vibrocore sound like the better option to me. I’ve got a 35mm setup at the moment, will likely swap out for 31.8mm before long

    @mashr
    Yup, just bought some Oozy Trail 780 Vibrocore’s on eBay; £60 delivered so half the price of the OneUp bars and no need for a new stem.

    But anyway, a 90mm stem wouldn’t be right with 800mm bars. Unwieldy, is the word that comes to mind.

    @DezB
    Bars that came with it were 690, changed them to Renthal Fatbar Lite’s which are 760 and they’re fine for me.

    @rockthreegozy
    Thanks for that, nice find!

    The only reason those OneUps exist is because of the 35mm standard and the overly harsh front ends that have resulted. So you’d be upgrading* to 35mm just to try and feel more like 31.8mm again

    *not an upgrade

    @mashr
    I’m not into the mountain biking scene as I once was and I’d looked at the OneUp bars as in previous discussion on here they’ve been mentioned as being better at vibration damping, but you’ve got me thinking now… may look for reviews on Spank Vibrocore bars before forking out on the OneUp bars and new stem.

    I feel for you, deeply. Never thought I was a ‘dog person’ until some five years ago when we got our first, followed by another less than a year later.

    I genuinely dread the day.

    St Andrews University has just gone into (voluntary) lockdown… a few miles away from us:

    As above, perhaps even Altberg Defenders from eBay; plenty of military folk sell them on there – new and often in boxes. I’ve bought three pairs over the last several years, new, for around £60-70.

    ‘Near Dark’ is indeed one of the best, if not the best but ‘Let The Right One In’ (the Scandinavian original, not the ‘Let Me In’ US remake) is superb.

    Has anyone seen it?

    Yes, I use mine with a 2020 Trek Pro Caliber 6 hardtail which has a SRAM DUB, 92mm, PressFit BB. I’m quite pleased with the stand, having had it for several months now.

    One thing that struck me at GT was the complete absence of bins in any of the car parks and the toilets were closed at half five

    And quite right too; the former is commonplace and to encourage you to take your rubbish home with you – and the latter also commonplace under lockdown easing.

    @esselgruntfuttock I’m pretty darn sure that’s the spot where we camped on the first night on our two-night loop that had us crossing the loch!

    Jason made a great video that captured the moments… good and bad!

    The seemingly ancient woodland on the west side is beautiful. We got across courtesy of the guy that used to do the Loch Drive cruises; I got in touch with and he agreed to take us all over – he’s retired now and that option has gone.

    You must have used the East bank from Glen Etive to Ardmaddy?

    I’m a bit rusty on the route and doing this on a tablet but here’s a screenshot of the route we did – it was a cracking day!

    A ride I did 9yrs ago…

    Hope that helps!

    Lovely reading that, thank you for sharing.

    Brought back memories from two big rides I’ve done over the years; one the loop Kingshouse Hotel > Glen Kinglass > Forest Lodge and back – the other being an emotional (the weather changes dramatically…) top of Loch Etive > camp end of Glen Kinglass > Bonawe > across Loch Etive > back up North side and another overnight in the bothy.

    A digital Vernier caliper..? No such thing but no doubt others will disagree…

    (You can get a Vernier caliper or you can get a digital caliper. The Vernier refers to the scale, not the fact it’s a caliper.)

    Also cost not really an issue. it should just be the best available.

    Perhaps stick with the three German ones from the list above from @paton – Lorch, EWM and Fronius..! (AFAIK Rehm have no UK dealer presence, if that’s important.)

    I’ve just gone from R-Tech (Far East mfr with UK support… but you may find you need the support, as I have…) to a Lorch (German) DC TIG and the difference is more than chalk and cheese; it is sublime.

    Never mind that, how come both the female immortals had pierced ears? Surely they would heal as fast as you could piers it?

    But we don’t know at which stage in their lives they became immortal; it may well have been post-piercing? It would seem (to me, might be mistaken) from the film that Nile gained her immortality as Andy lost hers.

    Mine arrived an hour ago and I’ve just tried them on; as above I did go for the 10/45.

    They’re snug and I wouldn’t say they have a wide fitting as Mavic/SP suggest in the description; if they were any more snug I’d be returning them for refund. No way I’ll be able to wear thick merino socks with them as I would do with Shimano winter/wet weather boots of the same size. They do have a fair amount of padding so they’ll hopefully be warm enough, certainly more padding than the old Shimano MW81’s I have.

    Vittoria Terreno Mix..? They do only go up to 38c though but do roll very well yet also very good in mud – I have a pair.

    https://www.vittoria.com/eu/terreno-mix-cyclocross.html

    (The TNT version is £40ea but easily available for less; my LBS does all tyres buy one get one half price.)

    I was looking at these a week or so ago and was undecided having been so used to Shimano winter boots or shoes with a neoprene ankle wrap; one review of the Mavics did suggest that crap can amass behind the heel. Was also unsure on sizing as, despite being a 9/43 in shoes, I’ve always been a 10/45 for Shimano shoes and boots but thanks to the comments above I’ll give the 10’s a go.
    SportPursuit also do a £3.50 return postage which, should they not be suitable, is good for a pair of boots.

    We’ve got a chap that rides around the area pretty regularly on an Elliptigo; makes a very unique ‘whooshing’ noise. He seems to be out most days on a variaty of bikes.

    It probably is the same bloke @redmex has seen as he’s a Fifer too? Recall him correcting me a while ago on not knowing where Buckhind is!

    It’s an ebike so I want a local dealer to shout at when it breaks

    Trek warranty and support can be sought from any Trek dealer, as I recently found – a minor niggle. I don’t know whether other large manufacturers offer this..?

    Good luck in finding anywhere with stock; bought my Trek a couple of months or so ago and I think it was the last one available in the galaxy…

    We’ve thrown caution to the wind and booked a place in Aviemore for the first week in August, not through AirBnB as we were running out of options (dog-friendly, meets WifeStandards) and places were booking up fast.

    as Oldtennisshoes said, I asked house owner if they’d refund in case of any covid issues, they agreed no probs.

    Sorry, genuinely lost at the reference to ‘Oldtennisshoes’?

    Alas, not as simple for us as we have two dogs and ‘Project Management’ is immensely fussy about booking places… but that’s my struggle!

    We’d come so close to booking a holiday cottage for a week in early August but then realised it was too much of a gamble as there would be no cancellation or insurance cover due to C19.

    I was gutted to find last night that the Glenmore Camping site is staying closed as I’d hoped to get away myself with the bike for some riding in the area over the next five weeks.

    A question, and I’m probably teetering on the edge of an expensive rabbit hole with this but I’ll say it anyway…

    Has anyone got a radio controlled tank?

    No, but I came so very close to buying the Kyosho Blizzard several years ago.

    I asked a week or two ago and it was three days. However, I didn’t order from them as I’d been trying to communicate with them for a good week or so prior to that and alarm bells had started to ring so I ended up ordering a wheelset from DCR Wheels. If fitwheels had got back to me promptly I may have ordered from them. In the end I ended up getting their attention via their eBay presence rather than their website and mentioned the advice I sought by email and Facebook but they still didn’t answer my questions so this reaffirmed my confidence in placing the order with DCR despite the fact I won’t get them for another two weeks or so.

    Undoubtedly, if you know what you want their prices for DT hubs and rims built up are astounding.
