Funnily enough I recently ditched my Nextbase 412GW after (again) finding it hadn’t recorded something I wanted to see… after much comparing I bought one of the new Garmin models, the Dash Cam 57 – especially after finding out I could get a discount.

Very pleased with it, such a tiny and more discrete camera and the mount is just a £1 coin size disc stuck to the windscreen. Software on phone seems quite slick too. Also has subscription add-ons for speed cameras, etc.

As per Dorset_Knob and frogstomp; I have a Stokke Variable (bought it twenty years ago before it became the HÅG Varier) and I don’t think you can get much more minimalist. Worth getting a genuine one as the laminated design gives it some nice flex.

Maybe I’ll send it to trailrat next time as he sounds highly skilled.

They don’t call him ‘Terry the knife’ for no reason…

Did it actually come from Amazon – or from another seller via Amazon? Personally, I’m quite happy with Amazon themselves for their packaging as although considerable (beats something arriving damaged) it is nearly always entirely recyclable.

DCR Also use Bitex hubs; I’ve got one of his wheelsets for in the 25mm rim for my Trek Procaliber but he also does a 30mm internal ‘Big Boy’ rim now. Mine were 3x with SAPIM D-light spokes in silver and were £370, September last year. The Bitex hubs have a silly low engagement angle, almost instantaneous!

This is going to get laughed at by some. Tayport. kinda fits fantastic beach kinshaldy, pretty chill. 15 minutes to dundee.

Having moved to Fife some seven or so years ago, I concur with @joshvegas – Tayport has much to offer. Better links than much of Fife, should be plenty of education and youth work in Dundee too.

I’ve had my name on the waiting list for two months or so and earlier this morning I received an email earlier titled ‘Place your Concept2 order now’ so I did – may even be with me by the end of the month as I asked for despatch on the 26th.

    My deepest condolences, Jeremy.

It seems like only yesterday that we all chummed each other along on that Ardnamurchan ride, and doing our best to sort that tandem puncture you had somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Even though we are several miles away, not even line of sight, the dogs and I heard what I initially thought was a distant Chinook earlier this evening; thought it sounded different so pulled my phone out – turned out to be an Osprey landing at Leuchars. First time I’ve been aware of one visiting, not that I’ve been keeping my eye on what’s about.

Maybe its getting older, or that combined with events since last March, but I have become more comfortable with my own company (and appreciating the dogs’ company) so perhaps I have become more misanthropic… still work with children for the day job though.

I’ve got three pairs of Terrex AX3 (I think AX3…) shoes; two with the cinch pull system and one laces, one of them in Goretex and all three with the Continental soles – they’re the reason I bought the second two pairs. For me, extremely comfortable and the sole is one of the most easy clearing (as in it doesn’t clog with mud) of any walking shoe or boot I’ve ever had. Very grippy on wet rock when walking the dogs on local beaches. Colleague at work had a pair and rated them so I bought a the first pair at full price in an outdoor shop; he found they wore very quickly but all his walking was on pavement in a town – mine seldom see pavement or tarmac.

Second two pairs bought direct from Adidas with 30% discounts that I quickly found online using Google, never used the app.

Yup, another whippet owner here. They do seem more relaxed in the company of other sighthounds and do spot their weird ‘sack of triangles’ shape from afar.

Our two thought they were fast until some friends let their greyhound off the lead at the beach and totally outgunned them.

Suppositories work far, far better than any cream… once you get the knack of getting them up there and staying up there.

I’m sure you’ll not need to ask me how I know this.

Just be aware that most of the older pillar/pedestal drills mentioned may well be three-phase unless somebody has already fitted it with a single-phase motor or added a VFD.

The Breakfast Club (1985) – Know the script verbatim, dressed like one of the characters in mid/late 80’s and more recently as a teacher a film I recommend to pupils – not one has said they didn’t enjoy it. Also soundtrack.

Some Kind of Wonderful (1987) – Soundtrack (Furniture’s ‘Brilliant Mind’ especially) and the line ‘better to be alone for the right reasons than be with someone for the wrong reasons’.

Nikita (1990) – Quite possibly the classiest violent film I own.

Superb, and after only two episodes this evening.

The change from the first episode when it was referred to as GRID and then in episode 2 as AIDS struck a chord with me, not sure why.

When I was 17 and passed my test (Im 56 now) I had my heart set on a Mk1 Mexico. when I realised the insurance (even in 1980) was around £600 I remember crying….. ended up with a Mk1 Escort Van. Hand painted and 1100cc of throbbing horse power.

    Always loved the Mk1

And the irony is that now we’re in our fifties we could afford the insurance… but now there’s no chance we could afford a Mk 1 Mexico! I’ve just looked at what they’re going for now…

What about rubber floor mat from eBay or wherever; available in various thicknesses, width and lengths – and smooth, stripe, dots or checker pattern?

Actually I may have just talked myself into getting some for one of my four workbenches… will do some measuring up in the morning!

    @ElShalimo @crikey

I’d actually kinda forgotten I have them! I washed them and treated them with NikWax wash-in last earlier last year and they’ve been hanging up in a cupboard since. Just taken them out and wearing them now before posting. If cold, which it has been pretty much so for a while, I’ll wear my Rab Vapour Rise trousers.

I’d agree with the comment about them being a cosy fit; I’m at the more portly end of a 36″ waist and I bought the XL’s – I wouldn’t want them any cosier. Leg length is perfect for me at a wee bit shy of 6’2″.

Their stuff is good, but perhaps better value when bought at 30% off – as it regularly is.

Thigh pockets that accept a folded OS map would be good; the RR’s won’t.

Could you elaborate please. I am just using the term as a general term, I know there are lots of methodss of sharpening.

My Meindl boots seem to not slip on anything.

I was just about to comment that my Meindl desert boots have the best grip on any wet surface; particularly wet ones on the beach and local coastline – whereas the Vibram soles on my Altberg Defenders…

My wife’s Christmas present; the most challenging thing I have ever made – still far from complete with more grinding and cleaning up to do! Design is bought from Etsy (Joshua De Lisle, an arty blacksmith) and a friend plasma cut the twenty parts from 1.6mm cold rolled steel:

According to most of the teachers and some of the parents on here, you are meant to have died of Covid caught off a pupil by now?

Indeed! But according to John Swinney and Scottish education we’re actually immune.

My school, quite a small secondary at around 800, has come off quite lightly it would seem for actual COVID cases amongst staff.

First time in my teaching career, some 12yrs now, that I’ve not been off work with a cough, cold or chest infection between going back in August and Christmas; a couple of times I’ve had chats with management as it has been more than three times in six months or something. They do largely seem to accept that as someone with Type 1 diabetes I do have a compromised immune system.

I’m sure we’ll eventually see an end to wearing face coverings at all times and the widespread use of disposable wipes at school but I hope that the containers of gel continues, alas I think it won’t.

Non-uniform day, for charity, at school on Friday so thought I’d join in; a £4 Etsy template for EVA foam… the foam would’ve been much easier than 1.6mm cold rolled steel MIG welded together!

Yeah… it will be more of an issue shortly, particularly at my school as its getting on for sixty years old; no HVAC system and failing underfloor heating with brick-filled electric storage heaters that don’t provide sufficient heating when the temperature plummets. Last winter we had gas bottle powered portables in both classrooms and workshop.

Issue is that there is no minimum working temperature set in law – only recommendations.
