Orbea Laufey H10 – Got one a couple of weeks ago, price matched which made it £1500. Mix of Deore/SLX and a Bomber Z2 fork. As my first 29er, it absolutely flies!

    @domtrax
Glad to hear you’re happy with it – and were actually able to buy one! I’ve had one on order with Epic Cycles since mid-August and it still hasn’t arrived from Spain yet. I’d have liked to ordered locally as LBS only a few miles away is an Orbea dealer but he can’t get stock; he placed an order for 400 Orbea bikes for the 2021-2022 season and was told he’d get 35…

There’s certainly a commonly used term on this discussion with regard to teaching – ‘consuming’.

It certainly describes the way I feel about it after 14yrs or so incl. my PGDE. I’d like to make it to 20yrs; by then I’ll be well into my mid-50’s and ready to find something else – accepting that in all likelihood it will be a halving in salary!

I’ve got through all of The Expanse seasons over the last several months and it has been the most compelling entertainment I’ve ever seen; so much so I’ve had to pace myself at times.

The first book arrived a few days ago.

Nothing as bad as that. Had my booster early evening and was starting to feel a bit achey and shivery a few hours later but the greater was the fatigue; went to bed and didn’t make it out of bed the following day – day off work.

Looking forward to the data analysis 👍

I think that from the small pool of respondents it would already seem that there isn’t any correlation and the hypothesis was indeed nothing more than a random, gibberish thought fuelled by red wine…

As someone that was fortunate (jammy) enough having placed an order and having received, in a quite timely manner, a Garmin Instinct I was musing whether there was a relationship or correlation between those that placed an order through having had a Garmin account (and other registered Garmin devices) and actually receiving them – and those that didn’t and subsequently haven’t..?

Just a random, gibberish thought fuelled by red wine…

Whichever Braun is on offer at Amazon and within your budget!

We tried cheaper replacement heads once and for some reason found that they ‘nipped’ soft tissue around the inside of the mouth; there are also fakes out there so make sure we get genuine Braun replacements.

Might be worth perusing this discussion:

PSA – Montane Extreme (like Buffalo) 50% off

I’ve been immensely pleased with my Montane Extreme, though I’ll acknowledge it isn’t technically a waterproof.

Looks like a decent one, too. I don’t have one but have a look at Bott tool board and accessories; they are The Daddy when it comes to workshop storage and accessories; they at least use the square hole system that yours does.

    https://sac-bott.com/hook-kits

Not cheap and I’m sure there’s cheaper alternatives.

Bad luck haters and heretics; my new Garmin surf is now on my wrist – arrived a few moments ago. :-)

    Thanks again to the OP.

I’m currently listening to Górecki on Spotify now, thanks to reading this. Reminds me of the utterly enthralling film ‘Song of Names’ with Clive Owen and Tim Roth, amongst others, that came out a few years ago – didn’t seem to make much of an impact in the UK?

@prettygreenparrot I believe I’m, sadly, correct in stating that Anatom are no more but you can pick up their shoes and boots on Sportpursuit, etc. I have two pairs of their leather walking shoes and they are immensely comfortable.

We’ve just bought the lads ikea mattresses – not r memory foam ones. They are comfy.

We’ve also just bought ourselves wool Hypnos mattress. It is so much better to sleep on than our old memory foam topped mattress. Both are similar quality and both properly sprung – but I don’t wake up feeling all sweaty/really hot…

A month or two ago we bought a new IKEA mattress; a pocket sprung Hyllestad but have found it, at times, just as you’ve described – hot and sweaty. Fine at the moment now its winter but we are wondering what it’ll be like when it warms up; I’m going to bookmark Hypnos…

Surely the number of pawls is irrelevant without knowing the number of teeth with which they’ll engage? Angle of engagement is a better measure.

If my vintage drill press died, which is highly unlikely, I’d replace it with the Bosch PBD40. Comes in at your budget and (having had one) I wouldn’t go near a budget Axminster drill; I had one of their supposedly superior ‘Trade’ drills and it wasn’t anything special.

It may be slightly heavier than others due to the IsoSpeed decoupler; I have a 2020 Procaliber 6 and it does work at taking much of the buzz out. I’m soon getting (eventually…) an Orbea Laufey so it’ll be interesting to compare; I daresay the Orbea will be much stiffer at the back end!

@blitz So it does, I had no idea; I always start from just above ‘Muchty after heading there from the other end of The Kingdom so, perhaps naturally, called it Fife!

    Pitmedden in Perthshire?

No, Fife – just North of ‘Muchty.

@RustyNissanPrairie Yup, simple and brilliant. I just wish they did half sizes (or they were readily available) as I suspect that they’d be the better size for me; I have the 10’s and have added a Sorbothane insole as they’re (even with the supplied spaces) spacious – but I think a 9 would be too small.

Not all Altberg boots are made in Richmond, the Defenders they make for the Army are made (I believe) in Europe under contract. I’ve had numerous pairs over the last several years, always bought on eBay new for never more than £60.

However a month or two ago I bought a new pair of Haix Combat High Liability boots, also new, for £65 and I’m now converted. Made in Europe, a much better lacing system as they open up more so easier to don and take off with thick socks. They feel lighter and the sole is much, much better for the coastal walking we tend to do with the dogs; the Altberg Vibram sole was lethal on wet rock.

I’d probably consider it strange if anyone with dogs (or cats, hamsters, goldfish or snakes or whatever) didn’t talk to them.

Happened across an Australian band called ‘Parcels’ on Spotify this afternoon and listened to at least two albums whilst I spent some time in the workshop this afternoon.

It was as soon as I got home after work and before the ground started to freeze so had a long sleeve brushed cotton shirt on.

The large Montane Extreme arrived yesterday and I’ve already received a refund for the XL that I returned to SportsShoes only on Monday – efficient returns dept.

Perfect size and kept me fine and dandy when I buried our seventeen year old cat this evening in a windy, damp and near zero back garden!

A mate just alerted me to Amazon offering the Garmin Instinct with a £141 discount.

    I don’t need one but, naturally, I bought one… graphite for £119.

6’2″ and 16st… XL just arrived and it’ll be going back as it is indeed massive, I’m an impatient bugger so I’ll just order a Large and return it.

    @RopeyReignRider
    Hope this helps.

I do not need a new jacket

That’s what I thought until I saw this post… just bought one; it was my 51st last month and I’d been struggling for something to buy and say it was from my wife – that struggle is now over!

    Thanks for the PSA @RustyNissanPrairie

If you don’t want to buy preset bicycle-specific torque wrenches then the Norbar SL0 11123 is the one to get; 4-20Nm range and made in the UK.

    https://www.zoro.co.uk/shop/hand-tools/torque-wrenches/slo-11123-adj-torque-wrench-1-4inch-rct/p/ZT1007818X

Halfords own make torque wrenches are Norbar but alas they don’t do their own version of this one.
