    Available as a torrent….

    I wasn’t going to say but I prefer old-school binary newsgroups! ;-)

I love all of these films, and I’ve never even heard of Some Kind of Wonderful until this thread.

Damn… not on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

    Thanks… looks very tempting.

Have has my eye on the Bowman PilgrimsX but in all honesty I can’t really justify it, especially if I can get the ‘workswell’ for half that.

    Cheers!

I assume the R23 Splines can be converted back to 9mm QR if needs be?

I’ve got two sets of the R24 Spline Disc wheels and they both came with adaptors to cover all eventualities.

    Any use?

My racing bike is a workswell and it has certainly lived up to it’s name. You’ve got a blank canvas if you want to do your own design on it too!

Thanks for mentioning them… looks interesting! May I ask roughly what yours cost, nathb..?

Not been to many sporting events other than Fort Bill several times; mine would be seeing Steve Peat win in 2005 – the atmosphere was electric!

Brilliant film with a superb soundtrack, know the script almost word for word.

Another thumbs up for ‘Some Kind of Wonderful’ too.

I agree – the Auschwitz girl made me cry.

I wouldn’t have expected the change from B&W to full colour to be so powerful but it is

    Moving stuff indeed.

A visit to the concentration camp at Dachua made me cry… lots.

It does annoy me that bikes that this do not come with proper guard mounts. I want a lightish road bike that can take full length guards for winter, and decent clearance for bigger volume tyres. seems this is the adventure road market, but they all seem to weigh in pretty heavy.

New C’dale Synapse just been announced; think this ticks your boxes..?

Several years ago I recall a pupil asking me if I was okay and if there was anything I wanted to talk to the class about my self-harming… still makes me smile!

    Send back.

I run tubeless on all bikes so no way I’d want a gap like that.

There are some things you should only buy from trusted sources. Batteries and shaving cartridges washing powder and liquid also sometimes targets.

And electric toothbrush heads, as we discovered. And these were from Amazon – a reseller, not Amazon themselves admittedly.

Was it a Noakia he dropped..?

Life can be a real beech so he’s lucky you saw it.

    Anybody sycamore puns yet?

Love it! It is heavy, particularly with the stock wheels but they are designed for off-road touring; very wide rims, simple cup and cone hubs and the same length spokes both sided front and rear. They go up tubeless very well with the Sawtooth tyres as long you put some tape across the join in the rim.

Best thing I did was buy a second set of wheels that took several hundred grams off the weight of the bike but don’t use them for anything too rugged.

Yeah, the bars are very ‘Marmite’ but I find them immensely comfortable combined with the extended hoods that the hydraulic brakes offer. Plan on putting some softer tape on sometime too.

do you know if you are able to cut metal with those , or are they just geared up for wood etc ?

A few are. You need a slower speed and an appropriate blade.

I had an old Startrite 301 (as suggested by maccruisekeen)that could do both but I sold it as I needed a bigger (for cutting bowl blanks for green woodturning) one; I bought Warco’s largest offering. If space wasn’t an issue I’d have kept it… kinda wish I had.

I gave up trying to find a decent used one as the only ones that came up were all three phase.

Very. Rural location in a tiny village with no shop or bus service, nearest village ship is 5km away. Work is 25km away and I could commute the odd day by bike but work, health and life is complicated enough as it is.

Often don’t use the car over the weekend, though.

    Oops…

One’s a relatively slow vessel that’ll take several ships length to stop or turn, the other one twice as fast and designed to do the same on a (comparative) dime.

I suspect a trip to hospital is the least of the Commander’s worries.

colournoise beat me to recommending Cult Pens!

I’ve got several Caran D’Ache 2.0mm ‘Fixpencil’ clutch pencils and various 0.5mm mechanical pencils but in all honesty I think for my needs a couple of 1.0mm or 0.7mm pencils in different leads would be ideal.

Have you tried Specialized helmets, thisisnotaspoon?

I always used to find that Giro were the only ones to fit my large head but have more recently found Spesh helmets more comfortable and better fitting.

Got my Specialized Sequoia Elite on the scheme last year; paid the difference between that and the voucher… got an unexpected discount from the LBS too – that went on a lighter (much lighter) set of wheels!

I had a pair of the RT64’s on order from Tweeks a few weeks ago, £13 each if I recall. At the time of ordering they said they’d be in stock within a few days; gave up after a week – I rang and was given a later delivery date! Cancelled the order and they arrived from Merlin next day…

I can highly recommend Alt Berg Defender boots on eBay; I’ve got two pairs, new, on eBay for never more than £50 – squaddies selling them on to get some cash I suppose.

If you’re a member of British Cycling you’d get 10% off handbuilt wheels from The Cycle Clinic:

I’ve got the DT Swiss R24 Spline Disc wheels, can be had for circa £200. I did consider the R23’s that qwerty linked to.

    Update… Wednesday May 24th 2017:

    So…

Didn’t go for the mobiles.co.uk offer as I couldn’t be bothered with moving from EE or the ball-ache of changing provider even for a short period in order to keep number.

A week ago got an email from BT (who I’m with for phone and broadband anyway) offering some great SIM only deals so I went for one that offered 6GB of data and unlimited everything else for £12/month. BT own EE anyways so I reckoned that coverage would be similar. That SIM card arrived today so I rang up an hour ago to get a PAC code from EE and was instantly offered a new contract at £8.99/month for 4GB data and unlimited everything else – and it covers Europe and other countries I’ll never visit. I thought I’d check that I could cancel BT contract…

Rang BT back up to cancel the contract and SIM card I’d received today – done, no charges.

Rang EE back to go onto the £8.99/month contract and ended up chewing the fat with a very chatty lady from Tyneside for half an hour; talked about phones, dogs, shirts (she used to work for TM Lewin) and relationships – her ex-husband comes from just down the road.

So, have now virtually halved my monthly phone charges and got a better deal with the provider that I’ve always preferred. Moral of the story… shop around and if you don’t ask you don’t get.

Just shows how competitive and fluid the mobile phone market is, perhaps.

Used and bought by aggressive drivers who think they own the damm roads, who roam around looking for trouble and accidents /near mises, to post up the footage on youtube and hope to become famous for five minutes after the footage is shown on itv.

That’s your opinion and you are indeed entitled to it.

But it works both ways; it records your driving too and, personally, having one for a few years has made me think more about my own driving and I think it has made me drive more defensively – rather than more aggressively.
