Just to add to my posting the pic of me Soul broken at the headtube; I’d have one again in an instant. It scared me a bit at the time but I do now realise that it was a very rare failure and a weakness, and Cy’s customer service at the time was great; he was very ill at the time and had actually closed Cotic to give himself time to recover. I do actually yearn for it’s sprightliness sometimes!

Mine broke and I did get a warranty replacement, so went for a BFe. I never was a ‘hardcore’ rider and seldom left the ground and suspect it was a weld that went.

2.2 ust are a harder compound to 2.4 but still a black chilly compound.

No, the UST’s aren’t the Black Chilli compound – sadly! Have checked this with Continental themselves, as have others. There was a lengthy thread on this a few weeks ago here!

CO2 works a treat for getting UST tyres seated.

The tyre’s great uphill, the rider less so!

Ditto! And the gibbon holding the bars being the limiting factor on the way down. No photos of a RQ in the frame but, if it helps, I did take a photo of one lined up next to a 2.1″ UST Maxxis Advantage – I was doing a long XC ride and wanted something lighter:

I will say that it’s a very confidence inspiring tyre.

Oh – and Saz is a burd. She’s not (by her own admission) one to navigate; this was a route someone else had told her about.

I’ve got the 2.2 UST RQ’s and even they are a big/tall tyre – have clearance issues on my Motolite; if wet or muddy I can just grind to a halt with mud, leaves, twigs, etc.!

househusband you should have added duchess drive to that route.

Don’t know it – it was Saz from MTB Borders (I recognise your forum name!) that took us round!

I did so yesterday; have just forwarded it again and copied to your googlemail email address.

There is simplt heaps of riding to be had in the area! For example; did the following route yesterday – about 40km. Takes in some of the Selkirk Merida route; some lovely tight singletrack!

Email me and I’ll send you the GPS route in GPX format.

Mate had an ASX and soon got rid… think he found that it wasn’t good at anything in particular.

As above – XT; after a few years with SRAM I’ve gone back to the big ‘S’ and find the kit more durable.

    i recognise that man…

That’s him. Can come across (on forums) as an arrogant and argumentative know it all, been there and done that mountain biking god – but (once you get to know him) is a good mate. Loves a few miles from me but haven’t ridden with him for ages. He’s said before that he know you.

    **** – that’s gone up!

Have just looked at my cheque book stubs; got a replacement Xen in June last year and it was only £35 then.

I have always liked the Titus ML, probably nicer than my Chumba, but not by much

I’ve got an ML, so I’m not being dismissive! Did get it primarily becuase of the bargain price they were going for last year. Geometry is pretty darn identical, too. I do note that the Chumba has the same size bearing used at all (no bushings) pivot points, and perhaps a more practical main pivot assembly – and the rocker is alloy rather than CF; no bad things maybe? Doesn’t have the brace that the ML has. Certainly beats the ML’s current list price ML with 25% off!

    Indeed, exclusive to Chumba…

That looks so, so, SO very similar to the Titus Motolite!

The ‘sticky string’ (Weldtite) UST repair kit has worked well for me on the odd occasion I’ve needed to repair a UST tyre.

Agree that UST and tubeless are not the same thing!

Not your imagination; Cy designed the Soul for forks <=130mm, and it is indeed a bit steeper and twitchier than many other HT frames.

I’d have recommended Terrocs over Roclites (the 315s at least are really a race shoe), though I guess it’s too late now.

Yup, they might be more suitable looking at them now! Will see how the 315’s fit and then consider changing them for the Terrocs.

Ta, guys. Have ordered a pair of 315’s – will send ’em back if they appear unsuitable. Wouldn’t use them exclusively for kicking about and general dossing about in – have a school trip in the outdoors in a few months and (weather permitting) they should be ideal for being on my feet all day!

Yup, many frames state an effective top-tube length – more useful than actual top-tube length.

But can anyone find them in UST…?

Yup. Have fitted them, but not ridden yet – hope to tomorrow. A bit smaller than I’d prefer; it’d be great of they did, say, the 2.25 in (L)UST.

Does OS X install without any modding?

    Ta.

Not exactly, but I’ve got a Mk1 PA frame (large) and would say it’s at the heavier, more robust, end of the spectrum – 5.5 to 6lbs.

There was a thread on these forks earlier in the week, I think – they’re OEM forks as Fox don’t list this particular fork.

Is there more dust at whistler though? I suspect not.

There had to be more dust at Whistler!

Surely you’ve depleted all the dust in the Tweed Valley by now?

tip – stop cleaning your multi pivot frame to within an inch of it’s life after each ride and you’ll get much longer bearing life.

Tip, Gary…. know what you’re talking about before talking bollocks… 8)

Bike doesn’t get cleaned much at all these days; have adopted Moray’s ‘let the mud dry and then let it fall off’ technique. But indeed, bearing life and the complexity of the Motolite main pivot bearing is a factor.

I really hope that what he did doesn’t reflect the ‘ways’ of anyone’s country.
