That is the reason I was looking.

The only fault with my first choice and normal purchase of seatpost; Thomson, is that it is a little to stiff, hence the carbon.

Expensive indeed!! May be not then, thanks anyway.

Love watching it but would never ride it.

I notice the Middleburn duo doesn't do well here! Would it better as 4/5 arm triple with the appropiate chain rings to run as a double?
The XTR set is pricey with buying extra rings on top!

Do you still use a std front mech for 2×9?

    Hornet600

I assume with all this talk of 2×9 it still uses the std shifters? Just adjust the screws for Hi and Lo so that chain can't come off?
Never tried 2×9 etc but interested in trying.
I notice people saying 40 on middle ring location, is that the largest? Could a 44 go there?

    @ letmetalktomark

I raced it twice this year during the winter series, Thetford and Tunstall.
Considering using it for D2D, but running solo again this year, so not sure!
What do you ride? You a regular evening or weekend rider?

Weekends usually. Not that organized to get there weekday evenings only just live down the road in BSE too!

I'll be out this weekend (probably Sunday) so will keep an eye out

I live 5 miles just out Bury, do you race for Flow racing?

I know it's very light when putting in and out the car!
It flies around Thetford forest and imho probably the best type of bike for Thetford.

My only bike at the moment!
Really good fun, not sure on weight but not really interested!

I think the manufactuers/dealers are holding low stocks due to the recession and also as above, to create a bit of hype and 'wanting' for people to part with their money.

I had an Inbred before my Cotic Simple and run XT brakes, still got the brakes on the Simple, with no problems at all.
It is the mechanical cable exist on the caliper that stops the BB7's being used.
No problems at all with XT.

You'll need a 160mm rear IS mount if rear is currently post mount (i.e supplied with no adaptor).
Just a few quid from CRC.

Thanks for the help guys. Will try one of the hex key ones.

Was trying to avoid the twin chain tug and nutted hub/axle as I use the single speed for racing.
Skewer is super tight at moment and takes some force to close it. It is marking the paint when moving.

Middleburn do look nice but are a lot more than XT, if that is the comparable.
Just been looking at the KCNC cranks, any good?

    Hornet600

Taking on board the Race Face comment, would Deus cranks be better?
Looking at high end complete bikes, most either use XT cranks or go straight to carbon (Race Face, Truative etc) or go to XX double.
I don't really want double as I ride 'real' mountains still and don't really want carbon cranks.

I have 520's on one bike and XT's on the other, wish I had 520's on both and put the extra cash towards a Hope BB!!

Try Bewts y coed and take your pick, or try the youth hostel opposite Swallow Falls. Stayed there a few times now and always been good.
Good pub in village too, The Stables I think it is called from memory, it's got lots of seating out the front and carpark to the rear through an arch way to the left of pub.

Good and fair response Dave. The true benfit of dealing with smaller (no offense intended, but used in comparison to Specialized, Giant etc) UK companies, a lot to be said for that.

No probs with On-One at all. Have bought 2 frames and numerous parts over the last 3 years.
The bikes are built to order so will take a few days.

Nothing wrong in that, I have been toying with the idea of a cross bike for a while and now that work at starting the cycle to work scheme……new bike soon!
Funny enough you have gone for the bike I was looking at!!

There is a lot of spacers on there, but if you need them that high then fair do's but rotate the bars round a bit.

Up hill is a breeze on such a light bike, I have RS reba teams 100mm on mine.
Really comfortable for a alu bike as well. Got on much better with this than the Inbred.

Do you break many seatposts with that much flex?

    Hornet600

Nothing technical, but the hills are big and downs are fast, leaving you feeling that of the 12 hours on the bike, 10 hours were spent climbing!!
Top ride though and for a good cause, can't be bad!

Never used them, how do they measure up? Are they actually 2.4"? The 2.25" Nobbys are smaller at almost 2.1" and the High Rollers are spot on 2.3".

I've been riding there for 15 years and live 15mins away, trying to describe some good bits to someone who doesn't know the area is a nightmare!
I rode a 47mile loop around the area on Friday including a good ride around the forest.
Unfortunatley I'm not around on Saturday otherwise would of come over.

So the Soda is 3.5lb and £1,500
and the Soul 4.4lb and £480

The big question, is the Soda £1,000 better? Different?

I know for sure that I don't want carbon (although the Scale 20 is rather nice!). Have always wanted Ti but now I am in position to build another bike I'm having thoughts about the differences!

Anybody know the weight of the 2010 Soul? Medium?

    Hornet600

I've currently got a simple and it brilliant, especially this winter through all that wet, sloppy mud!

Tempted by a Soda now though, for the race / all day rides. Thinking 120mm but kitted with XO/XTR to keep the weight down.
May be eveb the Sid Team 100mm's as they seem to get really good reviews.

    Come on, show and tell………
