Chinese, parents that have owned restaurants and takeaways. This thread is making me laugh out loud. Honestly, every asian person would be dead if we worried about reheating rice. How many billions eat reheated rice in the world? I’m still not dead (obvious)ly and I’ve done been eating reheated rice all my life, as have every other Chinese person I know. As for fried rice everyone has a different method, just use that one that you like. Use cold long grain rice, cooled as it stops it from sticking and provides the best results. I like to throw in some thinly sliced ginger and a few finely sliced chilli’s too.

Keep up the good work and the scarmongering!

@clubby I don’t have the correct Dynaplug for the larger plugs.

I just finished making some ‘mini’ panniers for the fork. I can’t fit a decent frame bag as I’m too short so I wanted something that would allow quick access and wasn’t too bulky.

Just got back from a trip across Scotland and NE England with them. Plan to make a better version with lighter fabrics as I found them super useful.

@dovebiker, that bike is lovely! Stormchaser would be lovely, my Arkose lacks clearance for bigger tyres. However it only cost me £175 for the frameset a few years ago.

AFAIA both Hope & Chris King have discontinued singlespeed specific hubs suggesting that it’s perhaps on the wane :/ though all the new standards probably don’t make it easy to have a specialized hub.

Missed that, sorry! Goes in cycles I guess(no pun intended). Definitely not as popular as it once was,, but I just love the simplicity and cost. Does depend on where you live too. Bristol isn’t too bad. Plenty of rides down that I can manage with very little walking. Do find on the gravel bike that the mixture of road and off road does make it tough to find the best ratio.

DT Swiss SS hub that’s been fitted to multiple bikes that I bought in 2006. Never changed a bearing and still as smooth as the day I bought it. Been built onto 3 rims so far. Can still get a few freewheel type SS hubs such as Paul’s Components.

Cold this morning. Warmed up and stumbled across some bluebells.

Out on my SS this morning. Blinking freezing again, but the mist was stunning.

But it isn’t a faff. In fact, I would wager it would be more faff getting a rice cooker in and out of the cupboard where it would be stored (if you are anything like me and hates clutter on worktops). But I love gadgets – we have a slow cooker, breadmaker, soup maker, panini press, vegetable steamer, smoothie maker, crepe maker, doughnut maker, candyfloss maker (fair enough, the last few are the kids). Still, I do not personally see the point of a rice cooker when a pan and a pan lid do it just as well.

Every Asian is laughing at you if you don’t get why you should have a rice cooker. 😂

I’m Chinese and no one cooks rice in a pan. Rice cooker will give you perfect rice every time. Once you’ve washed the rice and put the correct amount of water in, you can walk away and never ever get shit rice in minutes. I used a £15 Ikea rice cooker for 8ish years, gave it to a friend when my mum gave me slightly posher one.

All this talk of saucepans for cooking rice makes me laugh. Just spend 20 quid and stop faffing with them. Do you ever see Chinese restaurants or take aways using saucepans???? FFS.

Dodging the rain this morning I cycled overt to a cemetary I’d ridden past since a child, but never entered. This angel really stood out in an area of overgrown graves.

Have you tried to factory reset the device? I’ve generally been lucky with the Garmin devices I have owned and none have had software issues (perhaps I’ve been lucky). When I did have a problem my Garmin Support experience was also managed efficiently. Unrelated to software, battery issue.

Awesome endurance, especially on a SS. What gearing did you use?

38×17 is the gear I normally run, but with luggage a swap the 17t to a 18t cog.

    Did you camp or bivvy?

I wild camped the first night and then stayed in the the Travel Inn the second night as I knew I’d have the long day at the end. Lovely Indian takeaway that delivers in Winchester. 😊

I completed the route on my SS gravel bike with 38mm tyres. Coming from a mountain bike background, I found the descents fun and challenging in places. I could have cleaned more of the climbs on my geared bike, but it’s nice to get off and take in the countryside sometimes.

I wouldn’t use a mtn bike on the route, for me, it’s simply not technical enough to warrant the extra weight and lack of hand positions. I completed the route over 3 days and cycled to the start from Bristol along a mostly traffic free route to Devizes. Took it at a leisurely pace and stopped in plenty of pubs for ‘refreshments’, inc the rather lovely one at the top of “the Devil’s punchbowl”.

Kit for KAW I completed last Aug. Sleep system inc tent, pad, poles and quilt are 1800g. Stove, clothes and spares/tools split between my handle bar bag and micro pannier. Made the bags mysself from a mixture of fabrics inc Cordura (High abrasion areas), VX21, LS07 liteskin and dyneema. I line the lags with a waterproof ripstop.

I guess my whole set up minus water and food is around 5kg.

Should add I did the ride over 3 days, starting and finishing in Bristol.

Cyclingabout is an excellent website for bikepacking and touring. Alan’s reviews are well written and he’s ridden hub geared bikes all round the world.

    Great Youtube channel too

Still a bit moist, but wanted to get some local riding in with some luggage to make it a little harder.
