I haven’t used it, but I’m told Swift Playgrounds[/url] is very good.

The 50 and 100 routes split before the feed stop at Guiting Power. If you want a 75ish route you can do the long route to Guiting Power and then take the short route back to Winchcombe (or the short route to Guiting and the long route back to Winchcombe).

My 800 will only read one set of maps from the SD card. You can have multiple maps on the card, but only the one named gmapsupp.img gets used. I don’t think there’s any way of renaming the files from the device.

I’ve read that newer Garmin’s are better (as per smurfly’s 810) so the 1000 might do what you want.

Surprised your Comm didn’t put him on the first row TBH.

It didn’t seem to hinder him too much! I was hoping he’d only lap me twice, but caught me a third time on the last lap.

are the food stations to be trusted not to run out, and is the food expensive?

The only food stop is at Guiting Power. There’s typically a mountainsof homemade cake and bananas as well as water – it’s included in the cost of the ride, but a charitable donation is appreciated. I don’t think they’ve ever run out – some usually ends up at the finish.

    There’s also a (non-free!) burger van at the start/finish.

It’s on Eurosport at 21:30 if that’s an option.

You could also install ‘hola’ in your browser and pretend to be in Canada, which should make the UCI YouTube channel work.

    It’s well worth the watch

I have SL25s as a set of road wheels for my cross bike. I’m very happy with them. The only criticism I have of them is that the joint on one of my pair isn’t all that neat – very minor issue that isn’t at all noticeable unless you go looking for it and would have been hidden by the stickers had I not removed them.

I’ve been running Vittoria XG Pro TNTs at getting towards 20psi. I haven’t had any problems with the burping or rolling off. The only reason I haven’t gone lower is to avoid trashing the rims on rocks and roots.

Mine was fine in Boston last month with ~5 months left on it and it doesn’t have a camera symbol on it. The automatic kiosks did reject it and I had to go and see a human, but it wasn’t a big hassle.

Might be right about Boardman….can’t find the link now.

My Boardman (SLS disc) is 15mm on the front and 12×142 on the back. Not sure about their cross bikes though.

I think the “tour” gets underway today. Highlights on itv4 at 8.

    two comments,

    SHUT THE F***ING GATES!

hope the guy with the broken wrist got back ok.

+1 on shutting the gates – one of my jobs for the day was making sure they were closed on part of the route and they mostly weren’t.

The guy with the broken wrist was taken off by St John’s Ambulance (with the police taking care of his bike!), so I guess he got to where he needed to go.

According to Gloucestershire Council’s rights of way map it’s a bridleway.

Need to find a shop near Cheltenham that does a try before you buy or swap type deal.

I’ve seen oddly coloured test saddles knocking around in both Leisure Lakes and Cheltenham Cycles, so they may have some you can borrow.

No idea about parking at Cranham, but the Strava Heatmap will give you a good idea where others are riding – http://labs.strava.com/heatmap/#14/-2.15180/51.81869/blue/bike

I’ve just ordered h son Archetypes to use on my CX bike. They aren’t marketed as tubeless ready, but people say they work.

A23s are a little lighter, but reportedly not as well finished and not as stiff as archetypes.

I decided against Stans as the Iron Cross won’t let you run road pressures and Alphas seemed a little spendy and might be a bit narrow for CX tyres.

    I haven’t ridden any of these rims…

Archetypes on your hub of choice. Wide, tubeless ready, tough.

Are Archetypes tubeless ready? I’d somehow got it into my head that they were, but they don’t seem to be marketed as tubeless ready at all.

Googling leads to suggestions that they can be made to work, but it’s not as simple as with Stans or A23s.

I think Specialized are doing a disc Tarmac, but otherwise the division seems to be pretty much as the OP said.

    There’s a CAAD 10 disc coming too.

Round 1 was my first cx race and I got got the kicking I was expecting. If round 2 was anything like the first one, then I think not being lapped is far from a kicking!

raintoday.co.uk is pretty useful for working out if there’s going to be any rain in the next couple of hours.

Okay, reading glasses might work as they are for magnification.

I think it’s long-sighted vs short-sighted that makes the difference. I’m long-sighted and my glasses were often used for incerating things in my younger days. Piggy in Lord of the Flies was supposedly short-sighted – so his glasses wouldn’t have started fires – a plot error than anoyed me greatly when doing my GCSEs.

The emails with the GPX files always end up in my spam folder, so you might want to check there (and click the “not spam” button if it is there!)
