I recently got just what you describe.  It’s not a desirable brand and it’s from Jeff’s mega-mart…  but is stiff enough and can be used with bolts only.  Comes with 3 detachable straps too.

3 chainring bolts have become free-range?

Green chalk\Ice chalk was in full effect this weekend – proper lethal.  If it stays dry and breezy it’ll be OK next weekend….  but that’s unlikely.

I don’t have space to store the van at my home either…  One advantage keeping it at a storage unit is it doesn’t have to be local to your home.  Currently keeping mine in a storage unit just off the M5 in the south West – making it easier to get the bulk of the journey done without towing.  Only need to pack clothes as everything else is already in the van.  Then it’s easy to get to all of the South West and Southern Wales.

you can move your storage from year to year, exploring different areas of the UK.

Of course, the downside to this is a longer journey for any maintenance chores that need doing or spontaneous weekend breaks.

Faff factor is much smaller than Camping.  Comfort factor is much higher.

I don’t use one either – but have been tempted.  The main use case being watching\listening to UK streaming services whilst overseas but also taking advantage of other international streaming services that are geo-blocked in the UK.  For example, you can watch live sport that sits behind a paywall in the UK using a VPN originating from a different country.  I’ve not researched in depth but suspect a monthly VPN subscription when stacked up against the cost of all the various UK sport channel subscriptions starts to make sense.

Been looking at this myself.  I’ve found this Google Maps resource which might help you:

Try adding a New Col with this formula =IF(AND(A1<TIMEVALUE(“16:00:00”),A1>TIMEVALUE(“08:00:00″)),”Day”,”Night”) – Where A1 is your correctly formatted Time value…

Isle of Purbeck is worth considering…

    • Square and compass (as already mentioned)
    • The newly discovered fossilized sea monster head is now on display in Kimmeridge I think
    • Some good riding round Corfe and Studland
    • Lulworth cove
    • Durdle door

I can understand the concern about riding from the door could result in repetition and a lack of variety.

I’m fortunate and live right by the SDNP.  While it lacks any great altitude it is huge and has an incredible trail network with a good mix of riding options and choice…  Gravel, XC, Steeps, flows, tech.  I do still drive to ride on occasions, but it’s not frequent.

The “this is why…” phrase really has become part of MTB folklore.  Noticed this tiny sticker this weekend on a trail I’ve ridden hundreds of times before.

Don’t they go into trickle charge once the battery reaches a certain % (90?) – to protect the battery.

You have also tried replacing the button battery in the keyfob right?

I’m using this same Praxis chainring on my SS atm (very much not an e-bike).  Does what a chainring needs to do…

    Hairy

Hairy…  from the children’s classic ‘Hairy Mclarey from Donaldsons Dairy’.  Although a sound argument could be made that he’s more of a Bitzer Maloney or even Muffin McLay.

None…  The new wheel build should be correctly dished based on the rim profile.

I also shared those concerns back in 2016 when I bought a carbon frame with integrated headset.  The frame has had a tough life and is still fine to this day…  still on the same set of bearings it started out with.

Keep on top of any creaking noises, cleaning the bearing beds and ensuring the assembly is torqued up correctly (not tight, but snug with no movement).

The Dial or Frontier are XC Hardtail bikes:

Have you looked at Sonder Bikes (by Alpkit)?  They’re good value, modern bikes.  Would be tricky to get a demo down south though I think…

I like.  The sliding dropouts is the USP for me… I can only think of Pipedream, Kona and Santa Cruz that have similar offerings.  Are there other LT hardtails with sliders\SS capability I’m overlooking?

Will keep them peeled.  Hope Aviva play nicely.

Having done this event in ’21 and ’22 (gutted to miss out this year) I’d say the stages are technical enough to be challenging at race pace, but easy enough to get down without certain death.

I believe they’re intending to make the event e-bike only for ’24, which I’m also gutted about.  I do wonder if that decision is so they can drop the uplifts provided at the beginning of each day? (It does seem to carry a high faff overhead to minibus 80 riders and bikes around the moors)…  I for one would be totally happy to accept no uplift, more climbing, but still be able to enter with a pushbike.

Only 10 stitches in the end (I think)… my forearm is a mess and still smarts a bit. Much thanks goes out to PictonRd, DrP, the HOTS crew and Yate Minor Injuries unit for looking after an epic idiot.

    I’ll spare you the photos.

Use RandBetween function? Middle Column (B) would be between 0 and 255. First and Last col (A and C) would be between B-tolerance and b + tolerance.

So if your tolerance was say 20… and the middle random value came out at 100, Col A and Col C would be RandBetween 80 and 120.

I try to use them single fingered by moving the clamp position further inboard… It sort of works, but is a compromise with reach and bite point. I think the Hope levers are more adjustable on that front.

You might get on with them fine. My other bikes are Shimano single digit blades so the trekking ones always feel odd to me and I’d change them if it didn’t cost best part of a ton to do.

Got these levers on my bike. not sure my callipers are touring ones tough as they are XT 4 pots… I like the power the callipers deliver, but dislike the lever profile. Would rather have one finger lever blades than the massive touring ones.
You can’t switch over just the lever blades I believe… You need to switch the whole lever assembly.

Not sure exactly what time its locked, but is often locked when I’ve rolled through of an evening. Usually between 2000 and 2130.

BTW, me and a certain DrP should be out in that area this eve from 1900 if you’re up for tapping into some local knowledge.

First was crash damage to an out of warranty frame – but turned out that the frame design was super marginal in the affected area (cross bar between seat tube and brace had walls less than a mill thick!). The tube in this area is now much thicker and stronger as a result.

Second was just the aluminium BB sleeve coming unbonded from the frame. Removed, cleaned and stuck back in with epoxy.

I’ve had my carbon frame repaired twice now (Different issues). The Carbon Repair guy advised me that carbon is ‘infinitely repairable’ and that my repairs will result in the frame being stronger than before

Well what a coincidence… Our paths crossed a couple of times on this ride – I was the one commuting back from Slough on the bogie green Kinesis. Can’t forget your distinctive Volagi. Lovely pics reminding me of a distant summer.

Amazon only sell an Online Code or deliver a physical Card with a scratch panel covering the code. Which is the order for? Physical card then you should have a delivery address. Online code then you should have an email address.

I did this repair only the other week. The kind chaps at USE sent me a couple of replacement pins FOC after calling them.
I used a vice and tiny drill bit to push the broken pin pieces out and the replacement in.
Fiddly – but fairly straight forward.

I kept them on through the winter whilst riding SS. Most experiences were sketchy, but usable. Sharpens up the handling skills.
