    Cheers all
Cheers nixie but probably too much faff
    I need sram 11 drive
QR front and rear, plus adapters for axle front (possibly) and ideally bolt up rotors…
Don’t suppose anyone has any lovely ones sat in their garage not being used?

    Thanks,
No had much love for fulcrum in the past but they are a very good price.
Dt’s look good, I’ll have a closer look

I’m not really thinking that the rim is to blame, just bad luck really… just wondered really if anyone has thoughts about a better gravel rim, where this is less likely to happen.
Although I agree, I think I just got lucky with the perfect point load, haha

Correct, Yamaha tenere 700… last yamaha I’ll ever buy, even if they do sort it under warranty. Very poor build quality for a premium manufacturer, even if designing to a price point.
I’ll stick to 30 plus year old bikes. Far better it seems

I’ve always liked solo runs in wild places but this last weekend has definitely made me think, why bother with races at all.
The spontaneity, lack of pressure and freedom, whilst also getting in big miles, was just ace!

This is going to sound like a humble brag, or even just a plain old brag but I promise it’s not, I just need to state distances to ask my question in context…
Am I weird, or are there others that don’t think there’s anything in unplanned, long solo runs?
I lost my mojo for ultras and training last year, for one reason or another and decided I probably wasn’t going to race any this year either. I have however got my mojo back ( probably why)
I popped out last minute at the weekend and did 31 miles and 6000ft of ascent. No real plan, only thought I’d do 20 odd but was enjoying myself so carried on.
Got back and thought, that’s much better than planning races, training etc etc, so had a google to see how common it is, seems not!!
I’m happy with some big distances without the stress this year so hey ho,just wondered if anyone here turned their back on events but kept up the distances and increased the love?

No competition at that price, if you want good on road, good off (within reason) reliable, economical, good looking (to my eye anyway)
Yamaha xt660z tenere. Flippin ace bike, bit subdued in the performance stakes but ace at everything else.
Had one, loved it. Bought a new tenere700 to replace it

I think I’ll give the tow whee a go! If that’s works, I like the simplicity and lack of faff! Could be a winner
    Thanks

He’s pretty big for a 5 year old…Not sure I really want the hassle of storing and transporting an tandem though.
I was hoping there was something with a bit more of an elegant engineering solution for this problem
Potentially like a big kids, lightweight tagalong, with suspension and racks… I cant find anything though
The follow me looks more stable than a trail gator but its a helluva unit that wouldn’t really work for what im after. We are hoping to do some fairly wild rides and trails, the follow me looks like it belongs more on a town bike in Amsterdam.

This is flipping brilliant, thanks so much. A few I remember from my youth, although cheap beer and a climbers room was what we mainly looked for. Seems a few may have gone up market since then!
I will whittle it down and pick a couple. Might have to test some others ourselves too.
    Cheers all

I still have plenty of belly chub to loose and need to be lighter for cycling, running and climbing. Also the dawning realisation that im now 40, I will only find it harder to stay in shape. Don’t want to be back here next year at 14st 7 instead…

Maybe im expecting too much to soon? does this dieting malarkey take some time to kick in (doesn’t look like it from the awesome weight loss happening in this thread, well done all)

    13st 7lb
    6ft
    Muscular build
Two weeks of 16:8 fasting plus restricting to 1700 cals.
Loads of trail running, riding and even some boring zwift sessions

Zero!!! Weight loss in two weeks… why?

Never bothered following structured weight loss plans or calorie counting before… I’d like to get to somewhere around 12-12.5st, which would be fairly skinny for me but at this rate, It may never happen!

Any knowledgable types out there have any theories as to why I’m static?

Genuine question – How do you actually do it, are some people just not put together appropriately for cold water shock?
I generally love a bit of pain and suffering, I really don’t mind being ridiculously cold, winter climbing etc.
    However, cold water… No
I cannot handle the nuts to nipples section, I just cant ease myself in. Before you say, you just dive in and get it over with, last time I tried that, my lungs panicked and contracted and took in a full lung full of air (well they thought it was air, they didn’t realise I was underwater)

Id love to do it, my wife loves it, friends love it… It just freaks me out

Don’t mind surfing all winter in a wettie, hood and boots though.

Just received my Lib Dem candidate flyer through the post.
I live in a con/LibDem area, so have no real choice but LibDem, however….grrrr
What the hell has happened to politics?
The entire letter is basically slagging off the conservatives, trawling up such nonsense as, “who would have imagined that the conservatives in Westminster would kick out winston Churchill’s own grandson, just because he had the audacity to disagree with leadership” wtf has that got to do with what you are offering my county and my country?
The letter just spouts similar playground twaddle until somewhere around the end, there are three lame, non committal bullet points about underfunded schools and plastic!
It’s embarrassing and shameful, I want to read about who the mp is, how passionate he is about his community and what the party is fighting for… it’s going to hurt ticking that idiots box

@pistonbroke thanks… only just spotted your last pm sorry!
Looks like next time in Spain will be a ride down to the alpujarras to meet the family at Easter and back via Pyrenees but doubt I’ll make it over as far as yours. You are definitely in my list to book a few nights at some point though for recce and ride
    Cheers

Definitely test one! Bare in mind, when you get used to it though, it feels much lighter and waaaay more capable!
I was holding out for a second hand market initially, just decided that I couldn’t wait any longer for the sake of a few hundred quid

Ive just read about calibrating my trainer, didn’t realise I was meant to do that! At least I know I’ll be getting a more accurate result… probably even lower though haha

Get what your saying but I wasn’t expecting to be as quick as an obsessive cyclist, just not Expecting to be hitting an ftp of someone twice my age haha
    It’s a bit demoralising
Average casual ride outdoors, these days, is usually 30 odd miles of backroad with around 3k ft of elevation at an average of around 15.5mph, on 45mm knobby tyres.
Think I’ll stick to outdoors and ignore this numbers malarky

Off the cuff fast road ride would mean, no prep, last minute decision and jump in the bike (I usually ride my gravel bike these days, as above) if on my road bike I can add around 2mph to the average.
I live in a very steep hilly area, no such thing as a flat ride round here.

I’m always astounded by peoples ftp’s and w/kg
I thought I was fit… 50 mile fast road/gravel rides off the cuff. Multi day monster rides. Trail/mountain runner usually pushing top ten finishes, happy to race 100km mountain running races and run a lot of steep techy trails every week. Obsessive rock climber who trains regularly. Healthy diet etc etc
6ft and 80-82kg but… my ftp first time on the trainer this year is 228. I’m middle to low c class apparently and get totally burned in c class races by folk putting out 3.5-4w/kg!?
Am I doing something wrong? Or should I just sack off cycling as I’m clearly not designed for it

Well… I ended up buying one and have had it now since early September. 2500 miles so far, with a considerable amount of those off-road.
I also do not see the appeal of these tall “fake” off-roaders tj, hence getting a bit excited about the potential of the T7 at concept.
Turns out it’s a belter and as close to a useable off-road tourer as you can get, along with the 790r
Yes, for true off-road a proper enduro is light years ahead in performance and suitability but so far, the T7 is pretty damn good and genuinely good fun off road, whilst still being fine for 300+miles a day getting to where you want to be.
It’s also hilarious on twisty B roads and shaping up to be the best all round, grin inducing bike I’ve ever ridden/owned.
Can’t really fault it, it gets better the more I ride it
Yes the initial throttle is a little snatchy, a bit of tweaking has solved that nearly and a remap, when available should reduce it further. But to be fair, it’s not really a problem.
It would be nice if it was a tad lighter but at what cost?
It’s pretty easy to get it to sub 200kg wet
It’s pretty damn good out of the box but it’s also clear Yamaha fully intended to produce something to a certain budget, that they knew folk would modify to their specific needs.
Mine is already well on its way to becoming a stripped back off-road adventure tool
    Bloomin love it

Yep that brood does look good… must not get carried away!!!
Might try the black jacks, as they are cheap, so if they don’t work so well, it’s no big deal
I am amazed there isn’t much choice… 20” is when they really start riding
My 5 yr old is now hitting proper single track and we’ve just done our first multi day bike packing trip… he’s totally amped for a winter of riding

Coppice… I would definitely use it off road, uk, alps and Pyrenees… as a tool for getting deep/high into the mountains for running and climbing escapades… same as I have with other bikes of this ilk… this one just seems more balanced for my needs than most.

I’d love an r nine t, I have an r100 and have built several r65, 80 and 100’s but they are just too expensive for an average road bike for me

Got my pre order code, just got 7 days to use it and commit!!!

    Black for me, no question!

    Not bought it yet, haha
I’m now questioning wether I should buy a tricked out 1090r used instead for the same price… I think the yam is probably the better choice for me but I do love getting a bargain and there’s a few out there.

(I am just waiting for an email back from my local yam dealer though!!)

Tenere has a fairly high seat std, with a low seat option. Also a high rally seat (which I would opt for)

    Problem is, I can’t afford it… well I can but I shouldn’t
I’ll have to borrow cash to buy it and pay it off over the next couple of custom builds I finish and sell.
Weirdly, the wife says, just bloody buy it and stop talking about it

Weeksy, 100% agree. I had a 660z for adv duties a couple of years ago and it was ace.
I ride old Brit and German bikes a lot, so anything is exciting compared to those!
I’d also usually gravitate to the ktm, due to its more aggressive power but was so disappointed when it was released, its bloody ugly, not my thing at all.

The tenere nails it, from all the reviews… it will be used for some fairly interesting expeds and a bit of commuting (when whichever oldbike I’m mucking about with is playing up)

I can’t help thinking that I’m better off waiting for someone to buy one, truck it up with extras and an akro exhaust, realise it’s not fit then and sell it to me for less than rrp, with all the extras too…. not sure I can wait that long, waited long enough for yam to finish the bloody thing already

Jameso, yep apart from bombing around the campsite in ailefroide, I think the boys biking will be limited in the ecrins…
I think I know the Lake you mean and have a feeling I may find something in the vanoise… if you remember the byway name, that would be great, I was thinking Cotswolds or north Dorset may offer some gold.
Smehrlich, I know the very route, I run it quite often, the decent to burator is a bit gnar for the boy at the moment but one to bank for a year or twos time

    hooja

Ace suggestions cheers… peak option is a good one, I grew up 4 miles from Middleton top and nan and grandad still live there, so added bonus for the boy…
He has already ridden the granite way and tarka many times (from trailer to solo) so after something a bit more remote… mineral way is a great option though!

Might practice the bungee assist when we get into the alps, think he will need it then if he wants to keep riding each day.

Any alpine flat trails anyone knows of, while we are out here?

We are heading to aosta and ecrins for a few weeks…
