Just ordered one of these for my other half, http://www.bikeoutlet.co.uk/products/Claud_Butler_Roubaix_Gents_2011-1346-0.html
in 50cm… searched for ages including 2nd hand but eventually stumbled on this. spec wise it seems like a bargain for the money. Should arrive tomorrow hopefully…
She is 5’3″ and according to shop, this should be a perfect fit, we shall see

cheers, answer works for me…im 5’11” and ride a 54cm condor, just wasn’t sure how the aether sized up but the difference in height between you and my misses is a fair bit compared to the difference in frame size, so guessing I’m right in thinking it will be too big…oh well back on the search

    Thanks for the pics,
Thats a lovely looking bike, so i had better not show the other half…
I unfortunately do not have the time to source all the parts and get a bike built up, its got to be a ready made.
if only we hadn’t decided to join this charity ride at the last minute!

she is indeed a short arse,5’3″ (although she claims to be 5’4″) i have trawled a few of the forums but no joy yet.
Cant bring myself to buy a heavy cheap bike, like the raleigh team sprint, its just not right!
oh, in cornwall by the way

Very jealous hugor, looks like a great day out. No chance of snow in cornwall this round, hope its not the last of the winter…

depending on the size of the roof and where you are in the country, sounds ok to me. Scaffold alone these days is very expensive due to silly insurance premiums. Down here to strip replace and repair a single slate roof you would be paying at least that if not more.
Get a decent independent builder in to give you a quote, id do it if you were close by

Cheers all, this is the info i needed…
I am very tempted and been meaning to get rid of my pikes anyway, just can’t afford to straight away. It sounds like it wouldn’t be too compromised for now, until i can justify buying some more suitable forks.
What sort of built weight have yours been 32lbish?

yeah I’m with you on the nasty looks of the MH one. Had a montane flux, slightly bulkier prism, and that was great. Maybe a montane again is the way to go.
Not too fussed on packability, as I’m after a fitted lightweight one either natural or synthetic would pack down as much as i need.
Maybe buy the rab microlight and just stop going out anywhere with the missus…

If the lightweight one had a hood id be tempted to try it out, helluva good price too

63k is not even close to being high mileage. I have had various vw tdis for a while now, mainly transporters (which will do well over 200k) but i usually buy at around 100k and have never had any problems. Currently other half has a golf estate 52 reg with 140k on it now, still sweet smooth economical and with regular servicing never really costs much, everything is tickey boo. If its a good price bite there hand off

cheers DBW, yep i have fancied one for quite a while now, hard to find though and hard to talk myself off a hard tail.

Setup sounds good and similar to how i would set it up with parts off the bfe, so good to hear you where happy with that setup after a few variations.

Yep i know i would have to stump up a chunk of cash too but even though i shouldn’t, i never find it too hard to convince myself.

Be nice to just flog my bike complete and buy a complete replacement though, fed up of building up bikes…

thanks for the link, has put a doubt in my mind, as one post commented on it not being great on convector stoves, which i have. Im sure the top of mine gets hot enough but like you say, its an awfull lot of cash to try it and it not to do that much, pity they arent half he price be worth a go then…

Really, this made you so mad that you felt the need to post it in the bike section of a bike forum, really.
does this kind of thing really make people angry enough to share their pain with the world?

seriously though, winter coleslaw with everything
    red cabbage
    carrot
    celery
    onion
    white cabbage
    raisins etc. etc.
    Dill
Mint (the herbs are the most important bit, dont hold back)
    mixed up with natural yoghurt
lasts 3 days or so and is highly addictive
raw tasty goodness, goes with most things or meal on its own

skate shoes…cheapos off ebay, mid ankle seem to work best.
you can probably get 3-4 pairs for the price of 5.10s. Never had any probs with slippiness in 10+ years of using them and most 5.10s make you look like one of the spice girls…

    brilliant…
too many replies to be specific but thanks one an all! loads of good points and opinions, alot just confirming my thoughts, cx seems to be the answer.
none of my roadie mates are leg shaving athletes so with a tyre swap, sounds like it will be ok. Also like the idea of keeping up with them on a steel and slightly inappropriate bike, they wont like it though!
I am however looking at a friend of a friends bianchi this week, full carbon racer. So who knows!
Also are there plans for an alfine 11 road shifter and how does anyone get along with the ratios and limitations of 8 gears in a can?
    ta again…

thats the biggest problem, i live miles from any bike shops and even further from any that stock the kind of bikes i like.
