I bought a transition covert a month and a half ago – absolutely love it! Ride mostly in the peaks and haven’t had any issues with single pivot on rocky stuff as mentioned above. I tried an orange 5, zesty, and reign before buying. If you fancy a demo, I can recommend 18bikes in the peaks – sorted me out a good un’ 🙂

Good choice of bike – I picked up my 2011 framed build on Sunday 🙂 It is orange, but looks quite yellow in the sun.

Any complaints on weeds, paving, brickwork etc… to be directed to 18bikes 🙂

Despite what graham says….. 🙄 I have a brand new 16″ mmmBop sat under the bed ready to be sold (pending liking the full sus frame im demoing on bank holiday monday) if any use – my email is on profile if your interested

I am tempted by one as a frame only option for my FS build due to the good reviews I have seen on the full build bikes the magazines have tested – Im being hesitant, and I know why, Im being a brand snob!

That mondraker is loooovely, and another frame only option to add to my growing list 🙂

18bikes, thank you for your kind offer. 🙂

I was going to email/ring the shop in the next few days! I would be very interested in a demo of the transition covert as that was on my original short list – any ideas of timescale of this?

Do you know how they would rid with a 150mm fork (I know they are designed around a 160mm)?

I demoed a Remedy at Glentress a couple of weeks ago and liked it – it was another option I thought about, but as I want to buy new, they dont do a frame only option 🙁

Thanks for the other suggestions. I test rode a 5 today, and despite really wanting to like it, i didn’t 🙁 felt too heavy for me! I know, MTFU, but it just didnt put a smile on my face.

Bol – Zesty would be my first choice, but alas there is no frame only option 🙁

Nukeproof Mega looks good, but website says suited from 150-170mm front travel, but then specification states 160-180mm front travel :S can anyone clear this up?

I would be wanting to look at a 28lb build ideally, would the kit im proposing to whack on get me anoywhere near this with any of the frames mentioned above?

Cheers chaps will take a look at the above options – going to email 18 bikes and see what demos they can offer over and above what’s on thier “demo” list as they stock cotic and transition bikes

would like 140/150 rear travel, so the trance is out Im afraid 🙁

what’s anyone opinion on the Saracen aerial frame? Seen the ariel x at £999 – thought it got a good review in ST mag?

This thread is making me doubt/ change my mind on getting a 2011 5 as frame only 😕

Seems to be working out for me.

In my 7th year now studying to be an architect, although my last 3 years have been part time whilst wokring in practice full time. For me, going to university was about having a path mapped out. I couldn’t see my self doing a degree that didnt have a clear career at the end of it all.

So, been struggling to find a 16″ readily available for demo (orange confirmed this is what I should be looking at), seems to be a bit of a wait annoyingly. In the mean time, thought I might compare geometry to a bike I know I liked and have ridden.

    Anyone ridden at 2011 Zezty 514 in M (46cm) and a 2011 Orange 5 (16″)? Bit of a long shot I know!

Reading the figures on geometry, the two don’t seem too different, but then I don’t really know what im looking for – every bikes needs to be slightly different right?! 🙄

Would you consider a mmmBop? Alu, I know, but I have a brand new 16″ in blue boxed sat under the bed which was waiting to be built up (I have all the parts!) until I changed my mind and decided that I think I want a FS! Just waiting on a demo…. 🙄

If your interested, emial in profile.

Cheers guys, looks like I best have a ring around. Think your right with the 16″ lee bee.

Need to hurry up and get a demo somewhere – have all the kit (Hope Pro 2 on Flows, SLX 10spd Groupset, Oro K24s, Tapered 150mm Revs, Easton Haven Bars, Syncros stem) sat here ready to go on something! 😆

If you have a 1.5″ headtube, you have a few options. You can run, 1.5″ steerer forks, tapered steerer forks and 1 1/8″ steerer forks. To do this there are headsets available for all.

    For example, with my mmmBop (1.5″ headtube) I was planning on running tapered forks. To do this, I was going to use the Superstar T1 headset;

    http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=426

    If you were going to use 1 1/8″ forks on the mmmBop, you could use a step down/ reducer headset, such as;

    http://www.stif.co.uk/mtb/product/hope-1-5-stepdown-headset/5317

There are ther companies who do them though…

    Hope this helps!

good price for the mule there – I have one and use it year round, I find it compresses down quite small when theres not much kit in it…

    though, a friend uses one of these for day rides at the moment with no issues;

I have a JPEG with cut gate route indicated on it roughly if you want me
to send it to you? May be of some use.

carlos that’s quite a big day out 😮 how long does that normally take?

    hoochylala

Ah the joys of cut gate. Never ridden right down to fairholmes – usually go out from langsett then turn back at the ridge/cairn.
Is it worth the drop down to ladybower and back up?
And yes the wagon and horses is a cracker, as is the bank view cafe with doorstep slices of cake

Def worth it. Don’t have to go all the way to fairholmes, just drop down to the resevoir (stepping stones) then turn around and come back. Your missing half of the ride turning round at the cairn at the top. One of my favorite descents down to stepping stones and the res, or at least the last part is.

    hoochylala

Yeah going to Fairholmes certainly extends the ride. Think when I checked it using bikehile it made a route of about 20ish miles with the fairholmes extension. If it’s nice wether though it’s a lovely spin to the cafe and back. Good time for a chat 🙂

If it stays dry this weekend, I think a ride including cut gate would be great for you. We all getting excited about it on the other thread! 🙂 dependng how fit your feeling it could be included in a loop with some classic ladybower stuff. Sure someone will be along shortly with a gpx.

I find starting at the langsett end he best, free parking by the resevoir if you get there early. Ride over, drop down to ladybower res and go to fairholmes for a cuppa if you fancy it, then back over the way you have come. Means you get a great descent right back into the car park pretty much to end your ride. Bit of a climb to start though 🙂

Yep it is very dry. Rode it at weekend, was absolutely fantastic, one of the best times I have ridden it. Do it
    now! 🙂

I just bought a pair of Easton havocs cheapest I could find was leisure lakes at 62 quid – merlin have them for 54 quid but out of stock and when I enquired they were not sure when they were getting them
    in. Lovely bars though 🙂

edit: just realised it was eaton havens I bought! Sorry! Still lovely though!

I notice the camera tends to pan away if they catch scenes where people or moving vehicles are getting caught.

Yep, thats the bits I saw, sickening 🙁

Just been watching the live coverage – bloody hell thats horrendous, people trying to flee on roads as the continuous wall of water just destroys everything in its seemingly never ending path 😯

Same scenario as my mmmBop – 1.5″ headtube am im planning on putting a tapered RS Rev in it. FSA do one, gravity 1 – this was my first option, but since, superstar have started doing these….

    http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=426

they have confirmed this wil fit mmmBop with tapered fork so thats whats going in…eventually! 🙂

Anyone used the latest crc voucher? It doesn’t state anywhere that you have to spend £50, but they are telling me that’s why mine doesn’t work. Anyone used it for a purchase of less than that?

It says £50 minimum spend require at the bottom of the £10 voucher graphic in small print – well at least mine does 🙁
