My commute isn't long, but I do at least 350mi/wk.
I'm a cycle-courier. Interestingly enough, mileage isn't proportional to money earned in this job. (You can do less miles and earn more money…)

btw. matt-outandabout, those pics are amazing. Any jobs going? 😀

That's awful news about the bikes getting stolen.

What about the thing that the police are trialling – where they put invisible ink on your bike? It probably wouldn't extend to other components as well as the stamp, but it would be far easier to spot (wave a UV light over the bike).

    'niche, that bike looks amazing!

I'd prefer different forks… but whatever makes you happy!

I'm very interested in this bike, I'm building an Alfine wheel right now, and am also in East London! mini-Alfine meet?

I got a silver Thomson stem recently, it is a work of art……

    They're quite frustrating to service.
The frames are often out of alignment, so centering brakes etc is a pain…

However, I think this is a step up from the last one I serviced, it seems to have non-plastic brake levers…

    I enjoyed the article! 🙂

    Silly article.
What's dangerous is people not paying proper attention to what's around them – this can apply to pedestrians, cyclists and drivers – with music/headphones or without.
Also, sometimes people put too much reliance on what they can hear – you often can't hear a bicycle approaching, so your hearing is never a substitute for checking around you.
(Although, I did get TWO pedestrians walk into my bike this week – they were crossing the road without looking, and didn't hear me shouting at them! I stopped, obviously…)

I would be inclined to say it's something saddle related! Could your saddle be slightly twisted to the side?

Have you tried changing the channel that the wireless is operating on?

I have been cycle couriering* on 540s for over a year. I've replaced cleats, but pedals are perfect, never been adjusted even.
    *300+ road miles p/w

    Too true, Coleman.
But then you've to justify a whole new bike to put them on.

They are with the 540s. Should be the same for the 520s?
The price of cleats alone is shockingly expensive these days. Pedals with cleats seem like a bargain!

I love how you built her something good! There are too many parts bin specials for gfs.
(I'll start ranting about women should choose/design/build their own bikes next!)

holy two chainrings is the way forward

Aha yes, very good. Carry on about your business.

It looks like a fun bike!
If you wanted to upgrade the braking you could get a disc fork (and wheel, and brake etc)
And I wouldn’t worry about respraying it etc. It’ll never be a museum piece, so just ride it!

    Nice!

(two chainrings of the same size though? is this a trend I don’t know about ?)

What is that man wearing? It looks like a one-piece, tiger-print-effect shell-suit?

…Or you could email minxgirl – i’ve never bought anything off them but they’re quite helpful

I never wear bibs myself – i always thought they were designed for blokes who don’t have waists.

I’ve since come to believe that even women with similar measurements will have different shapes, so it’s hard to buy clothing before you try…

oh and yes, assos have lovely gear, including nice pair of 3/4 lengths that you might like…

There are some really nice bikes here, thanks guys!

That on one (ti?) is lovely, but totally out of my price range. I like the idea of being able to swap out the back wheel for a SS one.

I really like the love/hate, but feer it might be a little too big for teensy little me!

    HA! Great pic.

I once did a job interview where I parked the bike inbetween two “no bikes” signs, and of course I stepped outside with the interviewers and they noticed my respect for authority!

Actually, that bike is quite like what I want to build! I love the silver rims too (I’m a sucker for the shineyness)

Is that the on-one carbon fork?

Avoid temple bar. Take the Dart south – go to Sandycove, and go for a dip in the forty foot. The trainline is right along the cliffs, and the ride is beautiful. (You could take the train down to Wicklow/Wexford if you’ve a bit more time to kill)
If you’re after a nice pint of Guinness, Baggot st has a few nice bars – Doheny & Nesbits, the infamous Dubliners’ pub O’Donoghues, etc.
Wicklow mountain area is gorgeous. The Dublin “mountains” are even closer, and provide a great viewpoint for the city (getting to them is a bit of a pain without your own transport)
Guinness Brewery is good. Jameson brewery good too. Trinity college is popular. Phoenix park is massive. (you can rent bikes and cycle across it)
Recently there was a bit of a stunt where there were caricatures of our Prime Minister placed in two of the big galleries, but unfortunately they’ve since been removed. Most museums/galleries etc are free in Dublin if you’re into that kind of thing.
