Thanks everyone, that’s very useful. Looks like the safest option in the long run is to get a sparky in…don’t want to end up casting the house back to the dark ages!
holsterFree MemberTry Moonfruit…
Check out the reviews of it – there are free and paid for options, and its very easy to use. Some decent templates too, which are very easy to customise.
holsterFree MemberThe Wool Trilogy (link to all three books):
or The Passage Trilogy (link to first book)
I was gripped by both, so would definitely recommend them.
holsterFree MemberThat GoOutdoors pack looks pretty good value, I’d go for it. If you find the belay a bit ‘sticky’, try the Black Diamond ATC – I find this nice and smooth.
holsterFree MemberEbay is a rip-off nowadays for sellers, I dont use it…Gumtree is much fairer and car boot sales much more fun.
holsterFree Member+ 1 for the Wool Trilogy by Hugh Howey.
The first book in the series is £2.48 for Kindle at the moment
holsterFree MemberTry the Lomo ones, this 30l one is only £25

They also do larger sizes.
holsterFree MemberMy dad has Xbox kinect (sp), which is great for the family and multiplayer – you use your body as the controller which is v fun with the sports games. I also have a feeling that you can play Iplayer etc through xbox, but I would double check that!
holsterFree MemberI just downloaded a Microsoft Word template from the web, haven’t got a logbook as such – didn’t know you could get an app, maybe that would be easier!
holsterFree MemberI’m also looking at doing mine. Started my logbook recently, so would also be interested in people’s experience of the training and assessment.
To the OP – I had a good recommendation for the training and assessment (a diff place for each) – I’ll find out what they were. PYB was for one of them, but cant remember whether it was for the training or assessment part of it.

holsterFree MemberI guess it will all be forgotten about in a week or so, but I was just thinking about his wife and children, and the impact on them – but then as someone else pointed out, the children of all other criminals whose names are public knowledge have dealt with it.
Also, I still dont see how it is public interest. When the case was first in the press when he was just known as ‘Marine A’, my first thought wasn’t..’I need to know who this man is’..it doesn’t make him any more or less of an example by publishing his name.
Well without this thread I still wouldn;t know who he was so the OP has rather defeated his whole ‘keep him anonymous’ argument?
Its on the front page of the Guardian, Times and Independent websites, so pretty hard to miss it IMO.
holsterFree MemberNot sure if you’ve tried this, and sounds gross, but I spit on mine, and rub it right in…Makes the rubber more sticky.
holsterFree MemberWhy are some people paying £340+ for a 16gb N5 on ebay, when they only cost £299 from the Play Store? Is it because they have sold out on the Play Store and people want them straight away via ebay?
On this one, the final screenshot pic shows that it only cost the bloke £299 in the first place!
holsterFree MemberHere’s the (limited) spec…
http://www.tigercycles.com/bikes/road/uc-fixie-orange-yellow.html
They’re selling for £140 + on ebay… might be worth buying a job lot from Costco and flogging them!
holsterFree MemberI’d go for Old Trafford… loads of nice victorian terraces, its on the tramline and its only 5min drive/taxi ride from city centre for getting home after nights out. Its also within walking distance of the bars, shops and pubs in Chorlton, and the two v good bars on Upper Chorlton road.

holsterFree MemberWorth trying out these Guardian recommendations..

DIY quote: “Ow! My thumb.”Let me know if you need any more.
ha, very good 😆
holsterFree Memberrij – yep, good points, but in this instance it has been overvalued, with a view to someone haggling…as confirmed by the agent when we viewed it. Its on at £159,000, but they are expecting offers in the region of £150,000.

Oxymoron in the title.…Right you are! 😳
Thanks for the tips. We wouldn’t be looking for anything too flashy at all, and I think we would try and do a lot of the basic stuff ourselves, so hopefully that will keep price down to a minimum.
holsterFree MemberIf you’re based in the Manchester area, Keep Pedalling do the Cycle to Work scheme, and also stock Surly bikes. I would recommend the Long Haul Trucker (which I think is the one posted above by Ton)
holsterFree MemberWhat about if I was to change my tyres?
I currently have a pair of Continental Contact 700 x 32c, which came with the bike (Ridgeback Voyage) so what about swapping to the Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tour Bike Tyres? They seem much more robust, so is it worth spending £60 on a pair?
Cheers
holsterFree MemberDoes the Council have a ‘five year supply of deliverable housing’? If not, then any policy that restricts residential development can be considered to be ‘out of date’, and permission must be granted unless the adverse impacts of doing so would ‘significantly and demonstrably’ outweigh the benefits. So, the bar for refusal is set quite high in these circumstances.
Although this approach is usually applied to large schemes, where the contribution to the Council’s housing supply would be quite substantial, there is no reason why is can’t also apply to an application for a single dwelling – particularly when the benefits (i.e. addressing a housing shortfall), outweigh the adverse impacts (which in this case might be visual amenity etc.)
Government is currently trying to ‘boost significantly the supply of housing’, so if an application is refused, and you took it to appeal, the current direction of government policy is in your favour.
All Government planning policy is set out in a document called the NPPF. Check to see if any housing appeals have taken place recently within the local authority area – as part of the appeal, the appellant will have interrogated the Council’s five year housing supply, in order to justify their own scheme.
holsterFree MemberCan I hijack this thread , and ask if anyone knows the song at the end of the Range Rove ‘Pike Peak’ advert.
Here is a link to the ad…
holsterFree MemberSeems like Chrome has the vote… I have an Android phone, and didnt realise you could synch the browser, so thats useful. cheers! 😆
holsterFree MemberForgot to mention that it would easily fit a laptop in it, and because of the waterproof material, it is wipe-clean, so perfect for a muddy commute! Email is in profile if you are interested.

holsterFree MemberI have one of these for sale if you’re interested… similar to the Alpkit Gourdon and the ortileb bags. Completely watreproof, plenty of room, and a padded back. The bright colour is also useful for cycling, and it has loops for attaching things (lights, webbing etc.) Its 40l capacity.

I only bought it back in August, and I’ve only used it once, so its in mint condition. Yours for £22.50, inc. postage!
holsterFree MemberI have a Z Pro Tango 2 up for grabs in you fancy a foray into the inflatable world…

Much more portable, very sturdy, can be paddled by one or two people and can handle most types of water (including coastal and surf). Also comes with pump and two paddles. Used twice, and £260 if you fancy it!
holsterFree MemberTop of the Lake
…its on BBC at the moment, so you can catch it on Iplayer. There is only six episodes, so its not a series as such, but its well worth a watch IMO.
holsterFree Member+1 on Knott Bar – does good food as well, and a balcony upstairs if the weather is nice.
holsterFree MemberThis is the best reference for info on ‘Rule 6’ status
http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/pins/guide_rule_6.pdf
– it basically means you have a more formal role and have to provide written evidence in the form of a statement of case and then a proof, and you can be cross examined by the appellant’s barrister, and vice versa. But you are probably better just making written reps, or appearing to speak as a member of the public.
If you are making reps to the appeal as a member of public, since it is a housing scheme, some points you may want to consider:
– is the site allocated for any particular use in the local plan/UDP?
– if the allocation is not for housing, then the application will be contrary to the development plan, which requires a refusal unless material considerations indicate otherwise.
– a material consideration which weighs heavily in the appellant’s favour is whether or not the Council can demonstrate a ‘five year supply of deliverable housing sites’ (see paragraph 49 of the NPPF, which is the national planning policy framework, written by government).
– if the Council cannot demonstrate such a supply, the inspector will most likely look favourably on the appeal proposal (as demonstrated by recent appeal cases).Hope this helps.

holsterFree MemberGreat Crested Newt surveys are seasonal – I think the time period for undertaking them this year is pretty much finished – as ninenja says above, if they haven’t completed one, it could invalidate the application, which would mean the appeal would need to be withdrawn.
holsterFree MemberYou can appeal for non-determination as soon as 8 weeks has passed from the point at which the application was validated. In which case, regardless of how recent any updated plans were submitted, the applicant can still appeal for non-determination.
Given what you say about the examination of the Local Plan, the applicant may be trying to get the application determined before the plan is adopted – perhaps it contains policies that do not favour the application? Has the applicant made representations to the Local Plan?
Unfortunately I am not aware of there being anything that you can do in order to delay the appeal process. You could group together with other objectors and apply for ‘Rule 6’ status, which means that you could appear yourself at the Inquiry and submit evidence, but this is a costly route. Or, you could appear as a member of the public in order to have your views heard. However, neither of these options will delay the appeal process itself, other than adding to Inquiry time.
If once the appeal is determined, and it is not the decision you wanted, you could challenge the decision in the High Court in order to have it quashed. Again, this is a costly option, although I have known situations where small groups of objectors have clubbed together and successfully pursued this route.
What is the application for?
Sorry cant be of more use – perhaps someone else might have some better knowledge of possible delaying tactics.

holsterFree MemberIf cheap is what your looking for, I managed to build my whole BFe for £450 – picked up the finished bike from Harry Hall in Mcr yesterday. Cant really afford to buy new/better components at the moment, so I took all the parts off my second hand Kona Shred (£195 from PinkBike) and swapped them onto the BFe frame (£195 from STW forum), and Harry Hall put it together for £50. Only new part that I needed to get was a seat post – HH gave me a second hand one for a tenner, so I got the full bike for £450.
Obviously I will gradually upgrade the parts as and when I have the money/second hand deals appear (the dirt jumper forks aren’t ideal), but I took it for its first ride last night, and its great!

holsterFree Member..think hels wants pics of you, not the hotel, in order to aid his/her decision..
