Looking forward to Trump’s environmental policies being discussed.

“No president has done more for {insert any issue here} than Donald Trump.”

This is a copy and paste of what I said in the Trump thread:

There was a thread a while back about old TV shows that are now considered offensive. Many of them were (garbage like It Ain’t Half Hot Mum, for example. Problem is when you have characters like Alf Garnett/Archie Bunker, who were intended to be ridiculous buffoons. I used to think that satirical shows like that served a useful purpose of exposing racism, the last few years have made me completely rethink that idea. Most people recognize that the characters are racist and their behavior is offensive, but for racists, it just serves to normalize the behaviour and they learn that they can get away with being offensive by portraying it as a joke or saying they are just being ironic. This is Donald Trump’s strategy – say offensive things then just claim it was all a joke and his critics lack a sense of humour.

On a related note, many Breaking Bad fans did not understand that Walter White was a monster and hated on his wife for being a spoilsport and nag. They’re so deluded about things that Anna Gunn got hate mail for playing the character.

Before you spend any money, check that the frame can take tapered forks. There’s no point in spending money on straight steerer forks.

Even if it can, you’re probably better just buying a decent second-hand bike than trying to buy all the parts and build it up.

The OP’s profile shows he started one thread asking the question “Has anyone built up the same bike in a similar guise.” about one of these entry level bikes
    https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15902071/diamondback-scree-10-mountain-bike-15902071

It’s very unlikely that anybody on here would choose an entry level frame like that as the basis for a custom build. Not because of snobbery, just because most people who custom build bikes use a much better frame than that as the basis.

As above, stones get caught in the brakes. First thing to check with noisy brakes is for stones jammed in the caliper.

I’ve a reasonable priced one, personally used it twice, the second time I remembered why I hadnt used it in a while. Mushroomed the steerer so I had to file the albeit perfectly square cut to allow the stem on properly.

They will always do that because of how they work so you will always need to tidy it up with a file. Same goes for a hacksaw cut though, so pipe cutter is my preference.

How do people gauge the length?

Assemble with stem and spacer that you expect to use. Put another 20 to 30 mm of spacers on top. Mark that point and cut it (so that it’s an inch or more longer than you think you’ll need). Assemble it with an inch of spacers above the stem and take it for a ride. Adjust spacers as needed until you’re absolutely sure you have it set to where you want it. Put a 10mm spacer on top of the stem and mark it, then cut it there so that you have 10 mm to play with. Assemble with a 10 mm spacer on top. Having the steerer slightly too long pays off if you ever want to change stems to something with greater stack. or swap the forks to another frame with a longer head tube.

Giuliani can’t get his story straight.

I think the October surprise was meant to be the investigation into the origin of the Russia probe, which just finished. Instead of Obama and Biden in handcuffs, the investigators basically reported that there was nothing to report and Trump is not happy about that. This just seems to be a desperate attempt to get some headlines about Hunter Biden

It’s crazy that an organisation as big as the GOP, if willing to stoop to that level, can’t just… do a little bit better.

Or maybe that’s naive. The whole story is so ridiculous – to the point where I’m wondering if it’s a test of how much narrative fabrication is believed.

The purpose of stuff like the fake email story isn’t to be believable, it’s completely the opposite. The aim is to just overwhelm the system with fake news so that nobody can tell what’s true and what’s fake.

So, basically, Rudy Giuliani is spreading Russian misinformation. The Russians hacked the Ukrainians and got some genuine emails, mixed those with fake ones, then passed them to Donald Trump’s lawyer.

The New York Post is running with it, it’s not some internet horseshit.

The New York Post is not the New York Times. Nor is it the Washington Post.

    From the Washington Post

What does the Biden campaign say?
Andrew Bates, a campaign spokesman for Joe Biden, said a review of Biden’s schedules from 2015 finds no record of any such meeting. Officials who worked for Biden at the time told The Fact Checker that no such meeting took place.

“I was with the vice president in all of his meetings on Ukraine,” said Michael Carpenter, Biden’s foreign policy adviser in 2015. “He never met with this guy. In fact, I had never heard of this guy until the New York Post story broke.”

    AD

The New York Post article also cites an email from Pozharskyi to Hunter Biden saying he was “going to share this information with the US embassy here in Kyiv, as well as the office of Mr Amos Hochstein in the States.”

“I know for a fact he never contacted me or my office,” said Hochstein, who at the time worked closely with Biden as special envoy and coordinator for international energy affairs. “I provided every record to the Senate investigation, and no mention of this guy was ever made, no emails, no correspondence. I know almost every player in the energy sector in Ukraine. I never met this guy.”

Carpenter said that the vice president wouldn’t have had a meeting with a company executive. “He was the vice president of the United States,” he said. “He met with prime ministers.”

This does not exclude the possibility that Biden briefly shook hands and chatted with Pozharskyi during a public event. Hunter Biden, for instance, helped arrange for a potential business partner, Jonathan Li, to shake hands with his father in the lobby of a Beijing hotel when the vice president made an official trip to China.

So, as I understand it, an unknown person dropped off a laptop to a legally blind repairman who cannot identify the person. The laptop had a Biden sticker on it so the repairman thinks it was Hunter Biden. The laptop was never collected so the repairman copied the hard disk and says it has Hunter Biden’s emails. He then gave them to Rudy Giuliani, who gave them to the NY Post.

Does any part of that story sound fishy to you?

it’s a transparently bogus news story published by a Trump loving outlet. Twitter have banned linking to it because it’s bogus.

    This.

I watched up to Ep7, then figured I’d wait till the end and binge it. Just too slow.

what does the stripiness of Nebraska indicate?

Most states award all electoral college voters to the candidate who wins the statewide vote. Nebraska and Maine split them. All states get two EC votes to represent the two senators that each state has, plus one vote for each congressional seat (which varies according to population). Nebraska and Maine award the two senatorial votes to the statewide winner and the congressional votes according to the vote in the congressional districts. This means that the votes are often divided between the two parties because Republicans generally do well in rural areas and Democrats in urban areas.

For an alternative recommendation I have used Bullguard for many years. Doesn’t appear to slow things down unlike my experience with Norton/AVG. Reasonable price

The built in Windows Defender is free and plenty good enough for everyday users.

I think this is the map that funkrodent tried to link to, just keeps looking worse and worse for Trump day by day.

This map is based on the fivethirtyeight forecast, looks even worse for Trump.

i understand that for young asians bikes are looked down upon as a form of transport you have to ride if you haven’t made and if you ride a bike you cannot afford car

Asia is a very diverse place. You really can’t generalize like that, it would be like assuming that Canadians are like Brazilians because they come from similar timezones.

My guess is that a lot of it is whether countries have several generations of middle-class people. Sports that require expensive equipment are limited to people who are not worried about where their next meal is coming from, but it takes several generations for sports to become well established – you need parents who are willing to put the time and effort into organizing it for their kids. Once you have an established base, participation increases exponentially with each new generation as people get their friends and friends’ kids involved.

FFS, I thought the headlines were mocking his desperation, but they’re actually quoting him verbatim.

“So can I ask you to do me a favor? Suburban women, will you please like me? I saved your damn neighborhood, OK?”
