They are POC, but they’re not white! I’ll PM you on F/book though, as your route looks to fit ours! Cheers

It’s an interesting topic and a field that I still work in. The Europeans tend to have it a bit worse than we do, as most of the scrapping happened over there. A WW2 incendiary went off a few years ago on a Munich building site and I think three workers lost their lives. The vast majority of UXO finds are safe to move, but time can also have the effect of making certain explosive constituents more susceptible to shock and vibration, as particular chemicals leach out and recrystallise around fuzes etc. Hence erring on the safe side wherever possible.
We are seeing an increasing number of finds due to new areas of exploration for off-shore windfarms and infrastructure, plus also the regular flow of stuff that was in Grandpa’s shed from the war.

+1 for the positive pressure ventilation. Cost around a grand.
Missus works in housing and had it recommended from knowledgeable building inspection type.
Black mould gone and smell virtually eliminated.
In mean time open windows etc more.

I also moved to CAAD10 a year ago, from a Giant Defy 2, based on…. it looked nice in the shop and seemed to fit. If a bike makes you happy, go ride it. Not sure about all this vertical, lateral compliance, but once I get some of them new bouncy wheels, I’m sure I’ll only need one bike for everything.

As a (mainly) mountainbiker, I stuck with Alu because I know I’ll end up bunny hopping, dropping it or bouncing off something sometime soon….
    (nice stealth build btw Bigdug)

Crankboy. +1 on your travelmug coffeepress thing, which I picked up in Cotswold on Deansgate Manchester.

    But I would recommend it.

I also had a few ‘misfires’ to start with but then learnt the way of the GSI mug.
(be patient and like most cafetieres, give it a quick swirl to prevent all the grounds forming a plug at the top.
then press slowly and carefully, swirling again if you meet much resistance. That way, it doesn’t burst up into the insulating layer and doesn’t drip down your front- good luck)

Still refusing to use the Camelbak with a flow valve meter the Mrs H bought just to try and make me look like a kit freak- I do a perfectly good job of that myself

Near Dohuk, Marathon Oil? Not been there since Dec 13 and teams did change their route in from Erbil during summer ’14 but not heard any problems there recently. Some problems as 1/2m refugees moved into Dohuk causing some supply issues, but out in your base, I’d suspect this wouldn’t affect you.
As prev post said, check on private security provider’s track record…

Nice city to be honest. When I was last there we walked out for a beer- v v different to the south of Iraq.
Consular advice tends to be so risk averse that it’s hopeless. I can get a full readout on your areas of interest tomorrow if you want? Colleagues have been there for ~3 yrs and have a good impartial view.

You remember the hullabaloo about whether the move to 8 speed was too much-too soon and that 9 speed was just some voodoo mindferk nonsense to be avoided full stop

    Different, but not ostentatious/w4nky
and about £43 if you can find a Booths, but not much different online

Plus, as a Yorkshireman, once diluted to a drinkable strength (to release the oils etc), you actually get a lot of bang for your buck

9:15 for 9:30 depart from Works in Sowerby Bridge. probably out for 2-3 hours then back for lunch. Works welcomes muddy bikers, dogs etc and does top brunch food and great ale.
more than welcome to join us, Holmesey.
If you really are out at 7:30, you could join us afterwards!

I’m hanging on for one of them new fangled penny farthings. All the rolling benefits of a massive wheel up front, direct drive save pounds on gears n stuff (original singlespeed) and that little wheel at the back is super lightweight with a £65 Nobby Farthing XC 4X Fandango dual compound Hipster tyre on it….
all of us should be out riding.
+1 on whichever makes you smile the most…..

I have Thule aerobars for a Mazda 6 (06) which are now surplus to requirement. come with mounting bolts/footpacks. If they fit your Mondeo you can have em for a decent bottle of Malt. I’ll look up the model numbers and stuff tomorrow.

coupled with locking Halfords bike racks, they have been great and perform well at all speeds.

I can’t watch any longer- I’ll lend you my chainwhip.
Or if you prefer, I can build you a Thermic Lance (guaranteed to get it off, but might take the edge off the gears, freewheel hub, wheel, garage floor etc)

seriously though happy to lend tools if you can’t be ar53d to build one as cleverly suggested above.

Sorry I’m not a legal expert, but do know a bullet when I see one (having used a few and disposed of lots in a former life).
If I knew that we were all going to get into a huff I would have kept my head down… as you may have to Joe, once the fuzz are staking you out. I assume that you have a firearms licence and all that paperwork?…

otherwise: irelanst +1 have a go and let us know how it goes, what’s the worst that could happen?
Maybe do a trial run with the bangers, work up to the catherine wheel then go on from there.

Best of luck that you get a Brit jail, rather than one of those authentic Ottoman ones.

+1 on the bounce thing. hard to describe but start and just try to move skis 10 or 15 degrees to sides to start, until you get the rhythm going….
If you’re in deep stuff and struggling to make the first turn, try planting both poles for some extra lift.

St Anton last week was 50cm++ powder, so I can confirm Painey’s claims.
Get lessons, and the right gear and know how it works. I carry a tranceiver, pole and shovel, but only any good for rescuing mates- they need them too.
French centre UCPA is brilliant for introductions to off piste and supply all the kit, plus do a heap of lessons at a great price. Well worth a look if you’re on a budget.
I board and ski and each has its place.

    enjoy

in the States a couple of weeks ago on a magazine cover ’27 and a 1/2-er’, when 29 is too big and 26 too small.
I was that interested I didn’t even pick it up, thinking it was an April Fool, even though (a) it’s not April and (b) in the US ‘humor’ is controlled by the Government thought police.
so if there are any ground breaking hipsters out there it could be true and the next big thing, before 33& 1/3ers come out with vinyl wheels

Have a look on fivenights.com for short term rooms in the week, or airbnb.com
and look at Grand Central for your commute. been doing it for 18 months. GC much cheaper and more flexible on ticket use than East Coast.

War, (huh), what is it good for….? Not getting type 2 diabetes with the rest of Generation XL.

Sorry but got to say as another ex Regular, that whilst there is a higher chance of getting hurt, it’s also a generally much healthier lifestyle than rusting to death in an office, wearing a suit from George, hoping that you’ll get a payrise one day.

Great experiences, hard work and some wonderful friendships are some of the many upsides. I was always hugely proud of the way that some of the young men that worked for me developed and showed emotional maturity, judgement and humility (along with getting shitfaced, stealing stuff and generally causing bother).

At the end of the day, there is a level of personal sacrifice, but I also learnt to ski, freefall, dive and kayak, plus got to blow things up, all of which set me up to manage 1500 people doing the same thing.

If he’s going to do it anyway, encourage him to make the most of every opportunity, even if it doesn’t quite fit with your expectations. (or get him that application form for the desk job at the Spar)
