    more progress with the dog.

I forgot that they associate commbands with places. So once the training is going well in one area it needs to be taugh from basics in new areas.

I had planned on gdoing to a sports ground but decided to do some sit, down and heel work in the street.

She did really well in a new enviromoment.

One big difference I found in training is not just waiting for the response to the command but also eye contact

I have a mild that has been cold crashing for 4 days.

It needs to go into the keg, which is still full of aother brew. Only issue is the CO2 has run out.

Also just finished harvesting 3.5 kg of goldings. Which are now about 1kg of dried ready to use hops. First brew will be an ESB with only them. I’ll also dry hop with them.

The PawFit2 arrived at the weekend. Charged it up and put it on her collar so she became used to it being added to her collar.

The app has a step counter which annoyingly you can’t set to 0. Once set it notifies you that your pooch has exceeded their steps.

Did a test walk and it tracked pretty well. Well enough to get pretty close to a lost dog. To help getting closer you can turn on the alarm wcu beeps and there is also a light which flashes an led. Both of which could help when closer than gps can resolve o.

Also there is a button on the tracker which we pressed can announce various info. So we just put a phone number in. If someone finds her they press the button and can call the owners.

I’d have been happy with just a map, but other bits are ok. I hope I won’t need to use them.

My dog now does resembles the dog from Up.

On the training front we’ve gone back to basics and woking on not pulling on the lead anď heel.

The walks are very short but going well.

Heel I’ve gone right back to just getting the heel position whilst standing still. Once she has mastered that it will be heel then one step.

    All good fun though.

Got it as more of a back if she does leg it again, which hopefully won’t happen again.

If she does leg it I hope the tracker will be Pawesome!!!!!

Had a training session earlier this week.

All the family now are going to be much more strict with the dog.

Trainer observed that you need to be on her all the time and she is full on hunting.

Did some work on walking to heel which went well with the SO.

Random tennis ball retreives also went well with the trainer.

Suggested a GPS collar which I’ve ordered so if she does bolt it will be easier to find her.

Also found you can hire secure fields and have just got back from one.

Dog soon re-learnt walking on the lead.

Recall on long line was good as was the small ammont of quatering.

    Sit was ok as well.

Retreive was non existent. So put her back on the lead and diď some more lead work. On the long line aģain. Made to sit. I got all excited with the ball threw it then sent her to retreive. She ran towards the ball and ignored it.
So back on the lead for a bit then back home.

    So some progress I think.

Same here in the south east. E mail to parents, drops off for a couple of days then back to normal.

SO walks with children neighbour drives and takes at least twice as long!

Funniest thing was last summer I was waiting to meet my children. LOADS mums all having a chat. A boy racer zooms up the road and onto a drive. His passenger gets out. He revereses off the drive rather quickly and stalls. Gaggle of mothers encirle the car and read him the riot act.

I think he learnt his lesson.

    Updates.

Have a session with a trainer booked in a couple of weels.

Yesterday evening went for a short walk. Dog was excellent, walked riht to heel.

    Got home quite chuffed.

Dog then starts dry heaving. . .

Then throws up a tennis ball sized fat ball (type used to in bird feeders). I clean it up as Mrs H can’t do dog sick.

In removing the vomit ball dog produces another one. Which I deal with.

Then produces a 3rd one all of which I then clean up.

Dog then slumps on the floor lookin sorry for herself. I say to Mrs H probably should limit the amoun of water she drinks. Dog then goes to bowl and drinks a fair amount of water.

    Nothing happens.

I do something at dining room table.

Dog trots out and sits at my side. Looks at me then throws up a watery fat bally mess.

    Dog is fine now.

Feeding her using a new game of piece of food in one hand (she doesn’t see which). Both hands held out she needs to touch the right hand for food.

In a previous job we investigated this.

Much to our surprise Custard creams were very reaisliant.

I also managed to sink digestives into a colleagues mug of tea when he left it at his desk. Ended up in him either thinking there was a biscuit in the bottom of the cup and digging about with a spoon. Or not realising and necking his tea with said lumpy surprise.

Most I managed was 2 biscuits in one cup.

(This was retalliation for him sticking banana to the ceiling).

    Cheers for all the info.

I’ll try some training tomorrow if it’s not too hot. On the long line a bit of quatering and heel work. Then slip lead then a bit mor training.

Ours doesn’t have constant access o toys. Plus recall is not always food. Might be food, a super treat or praise.

Sexier than a squirrel looks like it might be good for ideas for the kids to do.

Oven bake finernail sized liver seems to sort of work.

Spoke to SS and they said it mèda to be done manualy, via them.

Sync I’ll try that next time.

On a plus note they let me use a voucher on an order I placed a few days ago which had already shipped.

    +1 for SS service.

    Very helpful info.

    Scapegoat when you say

curtailed by the slip lead if he takes too long to come back.

Do you get him back and put him.on th slip lead?

Also (not just directed at SG) if I am doing some work on the long line amd the dog doesn’t listen to me what is the best way to sort it out.

Call her back in and make her sit?
Yank the line (as instructed by one trainer)
Get her back and put slip lead on?

I’m off to get some liver.

Before we got the dog I was anti dog but totally am a dog person now.

Willard I know what you mean an can see why people have a string of dogs.

On the plus side looking after my BILs Labs is easy peasy. He finds our springer hard work.

    Thanks Dashed.

I’ve used the growling when not happy, maybe I’ll go back to that.

Also I’m booking in with the trainer (more family friendly one).

As mentioned above the Sexier than squirrels looks like it might be good for in house kids training.

As dashed said I agree. It wasn’t my choice.

Hence why I’m doing th quatering type gundog work.

The original trainer working dogs chap was very much dog is fpr working, keep outisde in kennels. Only get the out to work. Which was fine for me but not great with the family.

I’ll maybe go and have a chat with him again.

Compared to other spaniles around here she is pretty good. I’d just like to get her off lead and know that she won’t bolt.

I’ll also try the liver options.

Dashed you say you didn’t use treats what was/is your approach?

    holmes81

    Thanks.

I’ve been working through lots of treats to try and find something irresitable.

Not found it yet. She ate 500g of cheese which my son was going to male a sanwhich with.

Salmon seems quite good, I’ll try primula cheese.

Ampthill I’ll give the micro rewards a try.

Deffo not letting her of the lead for a good long time.

I’ll try the kids and dog combo, sounds like it will help with the kids getting involved in training.

As per the Morgan Blue vid.

Chain keeper on degrease scrub rinse clean dry and lube.

Green-Oil degeaser, cleaner and lube all very good.

Did have a chain cleaner but found it didn’t sort the cassette.

Taking rear wheel out I sort that whilst frame is drying.

Think I’ll run my current shoes into the ground.

Then put funds towards shoes and may go for middle range.

Although I did try on a pair of Sidis and they were very comfortable.

Currently have a La Chouffe type blone carbing in the keg, will be ready next week.

I was thinking about a stout for my next brew. Quite like the sound of the Four Shades of Stout recipe.

Don’t think I’ll bother with ££££ shoes then.

Might get a winter set and summer set.

Riding is going to be CX and road 3 times a week or so.
