http://www.thehubsa.co.za have a look MTB is on the up there is lots of good stuff in Cape Town and surrounding area’s believe I did a bit of a write up on here in the past. Lost off good stuff in the rest off the country as well though be safe muggings and attacks are a real threat down there.

Took mine regularly up in the lakes he loves it as long as we stop from time to time at a stream so that he can fish for rocks. Does 10-12 miles so a 2 hour trip easily. Try to rest him every half an hour for a bit and give him some stream or lake play time. He kills me up the hills and then waits for me generally in the middle of the ideal line. Shit at downhills though he tops out at 20 or 25 mph so i tend to feather the brakes quite a bit.

Great cyclist car massice boot takes 3 full race bikes and two sports bags at once. Diesels are very economical as well as said before at worst get it to the scrappy and more then double your money

BA used to be quite a bit cheape on that route. Have you checked South African Airways? Vigin, Iberia. Considered leaving from London instead(might give a big price difference.

On the charges its one of these things who have changed a lot recently print their fine print. Many airlines upped their or scrapped the free bikes in the last 2-3 years.

I had this mess with CRC as I live in France. They decided on the shipping information to leave out my straat name ok that happens the town is only 150 people big so most know me. Then they decided to probably tap the first option when postcode choice. Europe has postcodes per town so my package got send with no street name omitted the contact number I had given and the name of a town at least 5 miles away suprise the delivery boy didn’t find me. Other times they do manage to get it right.

    Djflexure,

So you where struggling to find the harder stuff?? I Live a bout 35K from Millau(moved there recently) though mostly ride around rodez as most of my ride buddies live there. there is quite a bit decent stuff around that is just or just not ridable. Around Mailla GR §2 is fun cycling up from Millau through Saint Beauzely up to the wind mills first part in Millau is bleak but it only gets better takes a fit technical guy to ride it all and its a nice bomp down through the ruts and the rock gardens. Look for la caussenarde GPS file its one of the harder rides out here and shoul pass near you just cut the long route in a few shorter bits. Can get you some nice routes closer to my place.

    check uttagawatt or tracesgps.com

I know its a big mess to change blade and chain length. Though with a 50/18 you are either going to grind your knees to a halt or have a full days walk from Millau(valley) to the highlands ab ove. Many of these inclines the locals revert to 34 26 and these guys are reasonably fit.

I know one road out of the valley thats not to steep its only 3 but it takes 25k’s(and it doesn’t go where you want to go) thats by bye to the knees IMO. the main roads out of Millau towards the sea are all quite steep and hard

Best bet if singles speeding might be following the dourbie up to its spring as its likely to be more gradual(though never done it so there might be steep parts) anyways get some decent maps with altitude grids to map it out if insisting on the singlespeed its really beuatifull around here but some climbs ar a bit though

OP why not take a spare front ring then? 50/18 is big around here I have singlespeed back up from the valley(as shifter broke) and its hard. With a smaller ring you could put that on for the climbing days when you are getting out of the valley back onto the plateau(which is abvoe 3000ft

As you said better to Give the GR a miss as the are designed for walkers and can be quite hard core on a bike especially around Millau as you will be in the valley and have to climb out. There is easily 2000ft difference between the valley and the surrounding hills. Best to avoid big roads.

Note that the old railway track might just be gravvel so not that road(race) bike friendly. I live at about 40k from Millau but it tend to go for hard offroad stuff so I will more likely be on the GR.

    Munge chick,

Tanger is all north just accros Gibraltar Atlas is indeed very interesting tough way too far away.

    Roper,

Thx I would probably need to do two 2 month stints having only one day off a week. I speak French rather fluently which is probably also one of the reasons my boss picked me.

    Freeagent,

It sadly no holiday I will be doing 6 12 hour days a week and get one day off destination fixed of course as our construction site doesn’t move.

I have done that ferry several times from there. Its more expensive for the ticket though you save quite a bit on fuel and wear and tear of your car. Main thing is you don’t need to pass london or any other mess so less stress and quite easy to gough time. Cumbria Manchester leeds hull is easiest country roads by skipton quite a bit shorter and about15 min longer.

Anywhere between 5 and 20 depending on terrain conditions and ride buddy’s. 20 being racing and only climbing about 1000ft an hour 5 being fat now on al these techy decents and very steep crawling sprred climbs.

I have no mini Hofnar’s but in some cultures this is seen as quite normal.

Have been offered to used the appartment of one of my guides son’s once while travelling sharing it with his housemates while the son was away. You can go and have a beer and leave the same evening for a weekend trip knowing not a single name.

Some people you forget about others become friends and you try and see them regularly.

(IIRC, any UK citizen has the right to re-enter the UK without a passport).

Wouldn’t count on things like that to much. I am Belgian and was refused entry back into Belgium with an expired ID card It expired one or two days prior. Immigrationthought it was reasonable to send me back to some african country I had left to months prior.

Depends what you are in to?

Dubrovnik is a lovely place if you like old buildings and culture etc. Can be a bit touristy some times of the year.

I quite liked the place, you can day trip to the islands nearby Kolocep, Lopud and the other one for cheaps if you rather want a stroll in nature. If into beaches the are most times rocky or pebbles thoug Lopud and Kolocep(at the hotel nude beach around the corner) have a sand beach in thed middle of nowhere(say 30 min walk).

Find it a bit disappointing spec sora and ten speed are no no’is IMO should be able to get 10 speed for same or slightly more and be able to get spares or better spares for way longer. Tripple is good IMO no need to be though better to save your knees and ride where others walk cos the are hardcore with & 42 inner blade.

This post is cursed so I broke the gear lever on my road bike. Ended up cycling home up the mountain single speed set up the visitors bike and continued the ride. Feel wasn’t all there so build up the cracked carbon bike in some box and got some carbon wheels from the dust to do todays club ride.

Add a badly dented MTB frame

Various wheelsets says 6 or so in various state of ridability.

Just rembered the box I saw yesterday in my barn with a carbon road bike with cracked seat tube waiting for a new frame for parts transfer.
Believe there is two cheappish guest MTB standing with it.

Many tires offcourse 20 sets probably.

Must say have been building a new man cave/ bike shed the last weeks and plan to sort some stuff out and bring it over to down here.

    In Belgium

I have a recumbent that has been ridden 10 times no dangling from parents shed roof since a couple of years.

Track bike last been out for a guest appearance at Gent SIx days 5 years ago I guess.

Cyclo cross bike been out twice in 5 years only recently got new tubby after blowout in 2006 on rear wheel.

Got an old school Colango with with sentimental value.

    With me

Bought a spare roadie for visitors half a year ago not been ridden yet.

Some parts: brakes hubs forks rims tires waiting for a fabike frame

Three sets of carbon road wheels not ridden for at least a year will try and take a set out tomorrow.

Got a spare roadie left in South Africa at a mate’s not been there since june.

area between eastwaite water and lake windemere has some interesting bridleways up and down and a bit of cheeky stuff definitely worth a ride IMO used to go and play there with the dog when I lived not too far away.

I cary one mostly for my poor bugger mates who haven’t seen the light and still ride with tubes. Had a big bang last week with two nice sized hole/cut but some of that gluey rope tingy sealed it nicely(didn’t expect that first time I used it.

    Mefty,

Appologies for not trowing in the tax its prob cos I barely pay tax on interest as I spread my cash over differen countries and makes sure to change me residency if worthwhile.

    hofnar

You guys got it all wrong its indeed around the 30£ mars if you tae the assumtion that he is getting no interest at all. Though he might(should) get some interest on the amounts not yet paid in and in that case the transferring in parts is most likely the most generous.

So next maths quastion from which earned interest rate does it become beneficial to pay in parts. Extra bonus credits if you take into account weekends possible non transferability.

Cos the 3 hours was an official announcment of the destination airport/national air traffic control, cos they had really bad fog. We got told this by my company and his company when we called in we might be a bit late they said oh its been dead a while and gonna be for a while more.

And yes I would rather be in a terminal after almost 10 hours in a car and 10 hours in a plane seat a stroll along the terminal is nice. I dread airports normally as i see way too many of them too regularly but when beiing in a small spot for so long those horrible terminals and a long out stretch on their uncomfty benches becomes lovely all of the sudden.

Such a blessing only flew twice in the last half year abit down on my regular once a weak quota including some less fluent airports.

    dharmstrong

In my case I knew the destination airport was closed(fog and all nearby airport shut down too) and and was declared closed for at least three more hours and as its a 50 min flight there was no use to go and sit and wait.
