Sinusitis? I suffer quite badly every couple of years, usually around this time of year. Antibiotics are the only thing that clears it up. Steam might help too…

Have a look at GPS Navigation 2. Works OK in the UK, not tried it in Europe though.

I have Drake Supersports. Wide straps, fairly adjustable & easy to ratchet up with mits on. Am considering some Flow’s though.

I’d be inclined to spend some money & get some decent boots first though

Try and get a couple of intro lessons at one of the snow domes before you go to grasp the basics. You should be on blues quite quickly. It all depends on how you take to it & how good the instructor is!

Have a look in Decathlon (especially for cheap fleeces, socks, thermals etc)& those “Designer” outlook places too. There might not be much selection yet as its still a bit early in the year.

I bought a 70L Quechua Duffle bag from Decathlon a few years ago. It’s pretty much the same design as the NF versions. It has detachable shoulder straps so they don’t get torn off by the baggage handlers. Has survived lots of treks like Kilimanjaro. A bargain at £29.

I bought one for the kids to use at Centre Parcs… pretty impressed with the pics, great underwater shots & the video was ok too.. Was on offer for £50 in Argos & worth every penny.

Off to Eurocamps somewhere around Lake Garda with mine this summer. No experience of Eurocamps but have had some good reports about it. Reasonably priced, well catered for kids & easy to hire a car to go exploring.

I bought a Calumet tripod about 5-years ago. Might not be as well finished as some of the major brands but for £65 it’s a solid bit of kit.

I’m impressed & loved the machining of the crank shaft. Wonder how long he can run it for must be very little lubrication if any at all.

My Dad used to make a few engines but not any where close to this. Used to run his on compressed air.

Try a load on & buy the one that fits & feels comfortable.

I use a Salomon Patrol Custom Air, not the cheapest but fits well, very adjustable, comfy & you can easily open close the vents.

Some of the Decathlon ones seem pretty decent & I think some of their own brand “Wedze” helmets are re-badged Solomon’s, Head’s, Rossingol’s etc. They usually have some good offers on too.

Don’t forget to pack some Febreze…everyone seems to smoke (they were dishing out free promo packs of fags in a club!) & its still allowed in the pubs/restaurants!!

I’ve just got back & can say that it was much better than I expected. Enough to Ski over 3-4 days without getting bored. It’s a pretty big town so try & stay close to the main lift. Locals friendly too.

We rented a 2 bed apartment about 500m from the main lift. It was pretty basic but was OK for our needs.

Didn’t have to wait more that 30-min to get on the Gondola (walked straight on at 10am on the Saturday) Once you were on the mountain there was no waiting at all for the lifts.

Slopes were good, the blue runs from the top fairly steep but really wide so great for a beginner to gain some confidence. They were pretty well groomed too, a little icy in patches but all OK. Some nice little unofficial runs through the tress too. There was a big dump of snow on the Friday & Saturday’s conditions were great. Only downside was that the wind picked up & the upper chair lifts closed for the day but there was still enough to do.

Nightlife was good with a few bars having pretty decent live music. The Happy End was good fun but pricey. The Lion & Friendly Pub were OK too.

There is a cracking little open air bar on the the side of the ski road, open fire pit, cheap beers…good atmosphere.

Food ranged from £7 to £25 for a meal & a few beers. The cheaper was fine, the more expensive was really good!

    Already planned to go back…

    Hope that helps??

I’m off to Bansko for a long weekend on the 18th Jan. Mixed group of intermediate to advanced borders/skiers. I’ll let you know how it goes, if you can wait until then?!

Beacon Farm is really nice but probably fully booked up

Stayed at Southwinds, Polzeath last weekend, booked last minute, not too busy & one of the cleanest campsites I’ve stayed on.

Have one of these, which stood up to Glastonbury Vango EOS 350
You can’t stand up in it but there is loads of room inside for two & loads of kit.

Also have a Vango Icarus 500 loads of room, easy to put up.

Had a Decathlon own brand tent similar to the one in your original post, took it back after one camping trip

Just moved to Marlborough, decent high street, pubs (that are still open) & eating places.

Live on the edge of the Savernake Forest and the Ridgeway is a couple of miles away, so riding is OK. There is a MTB club in Swindon too (not been out with them yet though)

Some nice villages around here too.

GF travels to Bracknell for work, takes her around 45-min so guessing Basingstoke would be around the same.
