I rode with Cycle active a few years ago and did their lakeland loop ride for a week and couldn't believe how much my riding improved. James Richards was the guide and he was awesome, it was like being coached for a week and he ran through basic stuff that enable me to take on things that I would have bottled before, and he has such a big personality that he made my week , plus he's an ex XC and DH dude, and it was brilliant setting him ride challenges every day , that he invariably managed, ;0)

A mate of mine had a Klein made of Titanium, said it was like riding an ironbed, had to sell it in the end as gave him a bad back

Gym bikes are useful for this, especially if you do spin-ups pyramids which will help where you go 70-80-90-100-110-120-110-100-90-80-70 for example

Sounds pretty good to me , I've started doing Bodypump which gives you an all over workout and feel a lot better for it, especially the core and back muscles

You can turn up but you pay more on the day, its an awesome route and usually very hilly so get your climbing legs on, especially as is often on grass so leg-sapping, oh and take your own provisions as it often runs out at the feedstations, otherwise brilliant

The small battery company sell the cr2354 for £5 online and you can change it yourself, just make sure you use plastic tweezers to put the battery in

I think you mean a T61 which works with the more modern ones, as quoted you could get a wearlink one for that with a replaceable battery for the same money and you can get a battery really cheaply

Best thing to do is have some water before you eat anything, your body is crap at deciding wether its hungry or thirsty so if you drink and wait 30 mins and if you're still hungry eat then

Could be , I’m the same if I have a cup of tea , I’m like a bloody fountain, also as coyote says that may not be enough water

Err the coffee’s probably not a good idea as its a diuretic, the pasta also absorbs lots of water too from your system , the veggie sausages probably had a lot of salt in them , otherwise as said before check out your wee colour

    hockropper

I stand by the 2-3 litres a day, Hora hasn’t said how long the ride was or whether he was hydrated pre-ride so its difficult to say, keep a training diary and you can then keep track simple as

Sounds like you started the ride dehydrated, you don’t say how long you were riding for but 3 litres is a shitload of water to get through, monitor the colour of your pee is usually a good sign , it should be straw coloured or clear otherwise your dehydrated.

The usual recommendation is 2-3 litres of water a day

I concur about the Rob Sleamaker book, its an excellent training book , there is also a website where you can get a excel spreadsheet that automatically works out the figures for you here <www.geocities.com/kenbhart/train.xls>

Yes it will but you need to keep it at a slow steady pace probably no more than 75% of your maximum heart rate , maybe doing some short 30 second sprints or intervals and then recovering for 2-3 mins or until your heart rate is down to 60% and then go again , try to do this 3 times during the ride and then just ride at your normal pace

I had to have my beloved Stanley the Ginger cat put to sleep November 22 2007, He had a stroke whilst I was away for the weekend , which was covered by the insurance in the summer

A couple of months later came back and he was ill again, rushed him to the vets and he had to be rushed in and stayed at the vets for 11 days, apparently he had a diabetic incident, which he recovered from but he’d had another stroke and couldn’t walk , of course he was only covered up to £500 , which he went way over, ended up paying another £500 on top and he still had to be put down
