How’s that working out so far?

So you think we should take the tax off alcohol and cigarettes?

Because it’s harmful to health and addictive much like other highly taxed substances.

This would cause it to be used less in foods in place of less harmful ingredients and put a sense of balance into paying for the effect of it’s mass consumption.

I do exercise self restraint and I’m very happy with the results.

People always assume I’m on a “diet” when they see what I eat. My normal response is that it’s not a diet, but that I eat what’s required to meet my health, strength, physique and fitness goals. Very different, have a target and eat what you need to achieve it. If have different priorities then eat accordingly!

Fat free yoghurt with piles of sugar in drives me mad.

This is the most sense I’ve seen written on nutrition and overall health.

Wish sugar was taxed at a higher rate or controlled in some other way. Don’t get me wrong, I have a sweet tooth, but it should be a highly taxed luxury like alcohol.

The decision of society to embrace high carb low fat is a huge mistake and will be looked back on in 50 years as a disaster.

I’d go to a physio first. Get a recommendation from someone, Facebook is good for this….

It’s likely to be an issue down the chain rather than your actual back. Get someone who can see where this is (for me it was tight glutes) and see if there is a quick and obvious fix.

If it starts getting more weird and wonderful them move on to a back specialist.

That’s my 2p worth anyway! I’m sure many will disagree and one or two may even agree because without knowing the diagnosis up front the right course can only be made with hindsight.

I’ve got a Desire HD and like it a lot. Very similar spec to the desire but with more memory to help with that potential issue. Mahoosive screen is the winner.

The people posting aren’t all tired and irritable because they have kids.

    (Is that better Spin?!)

I’ve recently broken up with my long term girlfriend over this. I just don’t have the desire to have kids. Certainly not going to make such a life changing commitment because it’s expected, all my friends are, the next step, normal, etc, etc. Maybe things will change, maybe not, happy with the status quo.

Well done to those that do. Well done to those that don’t.

One thing though….. It would be nice to sit in the pub and feel like I was don’t have to defend this point of view. I wouldn’t dream of suggesting you might be happier if you didn’t have your kids, so leave out the “you don’t know what you’re missing/you’ll change your mind once you have them” self validation weirdness!

Dezb: You know what, you’re right, but I haven’t got any that really show it. I mean top down shots with plenty of light, etc. Should have done as a comparison, but didn’t.

For some reason I used to avoid photos with my head down, hair in shot……!

Hora : I refer you to the Dealextreme T&Cs regarding delivery…

Martinhutch: The only recommendation I would actually make is NOT to get regaine! They spend a fortune on marketing and this is reflected in the price. Just go for a generic alternative at a quarter of the price.

Edit: Just checked out the Spain thread! Glad I intentionally avoided mentioning specific brands.

It’s a bit hipster, but not totally style over substance like a lot of the new single speeds you see out there.

    I like it.

Edit: apart from the seatpost. I nice plain silver alloy one would be less offensive!

I went to a bar last night where you had to back your self into the space between the side of the cubicle and the toilet bowl to even enter/exit the stall. Impossible not to touch all sorts of undesirable surfaces!

That and the above issue exiting the bathroom as a whole….

I mess with nature in many ways. I use anti perspirant, I use fluoride toothpaste, I use a bike. I also use minoxidil…

As to having a lack of self confidence. I use it because I’d prefer to have hair than not, in the same way that I wash because I’d prefer not to smell. It’s a choice I make out of preference, not because of a lack of confidence.

Hora: Everyone is different I guess. The line for me is with this stuff. Not going to do anything else.

    hmanchester

I’ve just realised I’ve only extolled the virtues of this stuff. He are the downsides as I see them:

    – Your hair is slightly greasy after you apply it as it uses glycerol to keep the active ingrediant where it should be. This is solved for me with a quick rub of a towel 10 mins after applying in the morning, or not bothering before bed.

    – Embarrassment factor. I’m not bothered and have had a laugh about it with my mates. I can see how some people might not like having a bottle of “magic hair potion” on the shelf in their bathroom.

    – Itchy scalp. It’s alcohol based, so the idea is you apply it, the alcohol evaporates leaving the minoxidil disolved in glycerol in place. This can have a drying effect causing itching. I had this very slightly, switched to a low alcohol version, problem disappeared.

    – Everyone is different. Some people go bald, some don’t. Some respond to minoxidil, some don’t. It might work for you well, it might have very little effect. I’m unlucky in that I’m going bald, I’m lucky that it seems to work for me. That’s life.

    – If you’re bald it’s probably too late. The main effect is to stop things getting worse, with some regrowth possible. Thinning hair will become thicker, etc. Cue balls will not magically stout sprouting! Start it early.

Yes, you put it on twice per day, every day. That’s what puts most people off and also where people fall down, you need to be consistent even without seeing results for a fair few months.

That sounds more effort than it actually is. I put it on at the same time as I brush my teeth, takes 10 seconds max and is just part of the routine. No real effort or thought involved.

EDIT: As to the “if you stop using it it will be worse than it ever was” line of thinking. As far as I know if you stop using it, you will just continue down your natural course. If you hadn’t have been using it you would be far further down the line, so there may be a case of your body “catching up” with where it would naturally be. But you won’t be balder for using it then stopping. If that makes sense….

Again it’s all about the glyphosate.

It comes in all shapes, sizes, powders, liquids etc. Just get whatever one gives you the most actual active ingredient for you cash.

Why is whey protein powder not a food?

It’s made from processing milk so does this rule out butter, cream and cheese as foods too?

    hmanchester

I’ve signed this petition and have also sent a letter to my MP.

It’s been deemed for better or worse that some foods should have VAT and some should be exempt. My issue is that pasties and jaffa cakes fall on one side of this line and whey protein powder the other.

It’s bacteria and fungus that cause the smell. A quick spray of Scholl shoe spray when I take them off does the trick. Ended up using it for all my shoes, just sits on the rack.

I don’t know a lot about road bikes, but I was in Decathlon earlier and these looked decent. If they are anything like as good value as the mountain bikes then I would can’t imagine you can get much better for the money.

As you say still might be worth spending that bit extra or going second hand.

Foam rolling is great, but quads are very easy to self massage. Bit of baby oil and get your thumbs and elbows in there.

Foam rolling is essentially self massage but people always forget if you can get to the body part then just actually massage it yourself!

Hi Zoota, as long as she’s sure?

Well good on you to everyone who said they’d pitch in, it warms the cockles of the heart. Special thanks to Edukator for providing us with that little bit of motivation to try and do a good thing.

Sounds like she’s got some good friends helping her out. I’m sure if you need any bits or bobs to complete a build there will be a few people out there who would chip in.

Junkyard with his mum handing the bike over (with pics of course) is definitely the best option. We’ll sort out the pledges when we’ve got a bike in mind.

    Junkyard £10
    hmanchester £10
    Zokes £10
    bobfromkansas £5
    oliverd1981 £10
    Khani £5
    Juanking £10
    bueller £10
    Cougar £10

Blimey, that’s £80. Enough for a really good Asda special….

Seriously, has anyone spotted any ~18″ second hand bargains out there, or even better have something in the shed they feel is in the right sort of price bracket?

Oooh, this looks ok, only half way there though…
    Or cheaper….

Oliverd1981 I completely agree. As well as doing a good deed I want pics to give me the warm fuzzy feeling inside!

    Junkyard £10
    hmanchester £10
    Zokes £10
    bobfromkansas £5
    oliverd1981 £10
    Khani £5

Well that’s £50 then. Who’s got an idea on any target bike/bikes we can aim for?
