[Looks like a fairly bog standard off the peg aluminim frame with some shonky graphics. Has spam69 just nicked an on-one fatty trail and repainted it

However, new bike feeling is ace as are the majority of fatbikes so have fun with it]

Just to clear this up, the Smokestone Henderson is my design. The only simularity is the fact it has a dropped top tube. Geo, dropouts, headtube and just about everything else is different. Especially the quality.

    Info is on our website.

Slam69 here, yes we import Nextie and handle any issues, plus build wheels. The markup is tiny to be honest. its certainly not 100% haha. Our original plan was to hold stock but so far they have not been able to supply quick enough although things are getting better. The idea is to speed things up and offer a quick backup. Also the rims are excellent with lots of new ones coming.

you need to avoid the fatside. it’s not good. you loose all your friends, you get picked on, people keep pointing at you and laughing. it’s not a good place to be. please just stick to your normal bikes at all cost.
    you have been warned.

So far there is still nothing to beat the Nates for proper all-round grip. We’ll give the JJ’s a go though soon as we get them. Its all good.

Haha, i love the fat bike conversations, the longer people thing they are only for going slow, riding on a beach or snow and just a fad the better, that means all us fatbike riders can kick ass for a bit longer, haha, love it. The look on peoples faces every single day, day in day out when you surprise them with your speed and agilty is fantastic. No one bar the people who have an open mind and have tried a proper fatbike understand, we let proper demo bikes out and 9 times out of 10 they buy one and never ride their previous bike again. Its strange and i was one such rider. I laughed at them when i saw one at Core Bike Show, then i rode one. Now i wouldn’t touch anything else for anything offroad bar an extreme downhill track. For me its something new and fresh that is not hype, its not hi-tech, its a simple hardtail that takes you anywhere you wish to go and in comfort and as fast as any other offroad mountain bike. There are the not so good fatbikes out there just like there are the not so good skinnies so don’t judge them all by what you have seen.

Its not just DIRT! Its most of the media. Its ignorance and the lack of ability to look out side the norm. We are all in the cycle biz so should embrace all sorts of bikes and cycling. Fatbikes are here to stay and will become anothet type of bike. They have mass apaeal. The secret is to get your leg over the right type, there are a lot of so called “Fatbikes” that are just copies of established designs which are already “Out of date”. The new breed of fatbike is a fat mountain bike, a All Terrain Bike. remember ATB’s, the fat bike is the true ATB. anyway i digress. Ed at Dirt is coming round, The “fat penny” is slowly dropping. slam69 (Fat69)

The Fatbike! After 30 years riding everything i discovered the beast and have not looked back. I have a feeling Dave is booked in for a test ride, but could be wrong, anyway for us, Salsa have it sorted in the Fattie department. The world is slowly reolising the fatbike is the way forward. Although i still read that its not agile, its slow, its only for soft surfaces. Wrong! The secret is to buy the right bike, forget about how they used to be, just for adventure riding, they are so much more. The secret is to build your own, invest your money in the wheels, thats where the weight is. We build 28pound fatbikes and they handle just like any skinny but have so much more grip, but are si simple.
Dave, if this is you we can talk whats what when you come in. I’ve been riding them for 2 years now.
Fatbikes are here to stay and will kick some ass, just come out with us and see the look of surprise when we keep up if not beat most full sus guys. And now…we have front suspension. Look out skinnies.

No, Hope are bringing out a hub for this fork so go that way, if you ad adaptors they won’t take the extra stress and risk damaging your fork and hub. I imagine it will void any warranty on both also. We’re stocking both forks and hubs shortly.

The gearbox! This just has to be sorted once and for all. Its a no brainer and will happen, then all you need to do is strap it into a fatbike and we’re all sorted. The Ultimate off-road bike!!
    I thankyou…I’ll get my coat.

Glad to see so many others going Fat, all the doubters are missing out. how many of you remember how good a rigid forks hard-tail feels, so direct and positive, then you wanted some suspension so lost the whole feel of the rigid bike, well low and behold the fatbike gives you both. I ride mine everywhere and certainly don’t hang about.
Its the real ATB, “All Terrain Bike”.
Our shop now specialise in Fatbikes and we now have 3 of us out regularly on Mukluks and its smiles all the way. just great fun guys. As for being embarrassed, far from it, i like nothing more than to kick the ass of a full sus, people just don’t understand how fast they go, which is nice.

Great to see a local event for mountain bikes, there’s not a lot on offer, I’ve spoken to the organiser and these events are aimed at mountain bikers who either wouldn’t normally consider doing this sort of thing or are new to the sport. Whatever, we’ve had a lot of customers looking to take part. Which is nice. Oh and there’s plenty of cross events i guess.

So sorry to here the news, John was a real example of northern grit, one tough cookie. We had the good fortune to be sponsored by Karrimor and he was our team manger, used to put us all to shame. A fantastic guy and I’m proud to of known him. RIP John North.

I’ve messaged Roger as well and will take a look up there i think, see if we can have a tidy up. Just what we need when we worked so hard to get access. Still at least it shows that we are an asset when it comes to over seeing the woods if things do happen.

oh dear, wish i’d stayed off here now haha.
for the record our shop sells 95% 26″ wheels, we build lots, i don’t really want to have to stock even more spokes and rims but, our customers are changing when they are looking at new bikes, we mainly stock 26″ but once they try alternatives they buy up to now 29 as a matter of choice and to just make a point, most are either first timers or the guys who don’t read the mags a lot. The regular long termers are different, they are hanging in there, so for me its customer led, they make the choice having ridden both. simple. I’m the same as i said, i didn’t buy any 29ers until i’d try one. it matters to me what i sell and i like to give proper advice and comments not dictate what they should have, Choice is good right now, god theres enough of it, travel, type of bike, blimey its a mind field but for me larger wheels are here to stay just because having ridden it i can see no reason what so ever why it shouldn’t become to new 26.
Anyway of to bed now, out on the Fatbike in the morning for a quick blast before lunch. happy chatting. 😉

i love these wheel size discussions, anyone would think people had a gun held to their head.
I remember when front suspension arrived, same response, then rear, its just the evolution of the mtb. calm down people. I’ve ridden mtb’s since 1987 and loved it all, rigid, full suss, downhill bikes, now i have a fat bike and just about to order a Heckler 650b, why? simple, it better than a 26″ so why not. I’ve ridden 29 and its much faster but not as agile so 650b seems the natural next choice and can’t see any reason to stay with 26 when given the choice when choosing a new bike. if i wasn’t changing then I’d stay 26″. for now, in fact my fat bike has 26″ rims but haha measures 29″ so god I have it all. haha.

All the guys on here going on about the industry dictating what we buy its crap, manufacturers have to make what sells, if they make stuff that people don’t want they would be madness, most of them have madea few to test the water, if people go for it then make more, if not why the hell would they bother. Simple.

For me it was a matter of trying all the options, i run a shop and didn’t want to sell anything that i didn’t believe in, so like to try it all first and give an educated review. We stock 26, 650 and 29 and there is a definite swing going on and its rider led, they try each size and make up their own mind. no gun to the head. so far, 29 is winning just. 650 is still rare but will win over a 26 just because it rolls better but keeps the agility of the 26. This is the fact of the matter.
What makes things slightly tricky is the fact most of a business is wheel building so even more spokes and rims to stock AAAAARH! Progress i guess. 😆

Yes we were going to bring our shop (Slam69) but could’nt. Not good. You would think that the guys would have this event sorted by now with bike washes, more info, they have been at it for a couple of years…. haha.

Hi Roger, sorry could’nt make last night, sounds like you’ve covered what i thought anyway. so long as we can get this sorted before the spring we may have a chance but can’t see people staying away once the ground dries up and the sun comes out, this will be the prob if they drag their heals much longer. I’m sure we’ll manage to sort this as they seemed to sway in our direction after the last meeting and see that we have the same respect for the woods as them. For me there was one person we had to convince. Seems crazy that one man can deside the fate of all this. NE seemed quite willing to work with us. Keep it up Roger, we all owe you a lot mate. Now our shops sells more mountain bike brands we’ll see more genaral bikers so spread the word even more.

i wondered when this would rear its head, we have been ridng there for well over 20 years, we have rights of way.
we need to sort proof of use, photo eveidence, bigfoot ride mags, i have loads, also, the shrine was not just thrown down…. lol i took a long time planning that out, along with a couple more like minded folk.
maybe we should sort a meeting and discuss a diplomatic apraoch but have a more strategic backup plan. ok Mr Hopk1ns kis kis
