'Other than Corstorphine Hill, which doesn't really count'

    !!

Corstorphine hill is aces! i've biked there since i was about 10, and regularly nip up for an hour two. i still manage to find ace new lines all over the hill, which although short, are brilliant as far as rooty technical rocky tight singletrack goes. lots of drops and chutes and climbs and steps and drops and rock and roots yadayadayada……..
anyway, maybe not ideal for a long distance ride, but for hoonin around of an afternoon it's tip top.
a wee short travel hardtail keeps it interesting too, as someone else mentioned.

*edit – as said, it can also be tied into a nice wee route out through cammo, up the river almond (where there is more really nice mint sauce type singletrack) and beyond.

wonder how well the front brake works….

should work fine – cones etc should swap straight over.
not done it for a while, but i used to run an lx hub (originally qr) with a solid bolted axle on an azonic frame with horizontal dropouts. think i might have nicked the axle from a 10mm bmx wheel…

ok, so it wasn't edinburgh area, but we do live in edinburgh… we were just about to finally make it to the lairig leacach bothy, to the south of spean bridge. we'd come from corrour via a night in the staoineag bothy. bit of an epic in the snow anyway…

    how about this?

should be able to do it.
if you disconnect the cable at the caliper end and pull on the brake lever, you should expose the nipple(!) hiding within the lever body.
you should then be able to wheich it out without much grief.
if you're using a new cable with a nice tidy soldered end it should then slink back in no probs.

a tad spendy and obscure, but maybe with one of these or similar? i daresay there are a few options.
    There's another one… here

    some interesting things…
the company i work for also has a credit license so i could potentially get something very sparkly.
i'm just having a nose about for some ideas to tempt me – don't really have the space for a 6th bike but i'm sure it could be found..

i've got and had a few old steel road frames, that have had various width hubs in them.
all i've ever done is pull the drop outs apart to get the wheel in if it's been a wider one.
they seem to have been resilient enough to deal with it, and the wheels seem to sit straight too.
current frame is a 531 raleigh which is fine too.

i had the problem of braking force shifting my wheel a few times on my bike. at some point i got a new wheel (not because of this issue) and the problem was solved.
i think it was because the gnurled end cap on the hub (the face that contacts the inside face of the dropout) was worn smooth, offering no grip on the frame other than the force of the qr.
i also got some of these nice gold halo skewers as a alternative to bolt ups…

anyway, no more wheel slip for me

as sam said, on-one did one with a normal 26" frame, but it looked a bit queer like, as do the carvers.
also means you have to have various sizes of tubes and tyres as spares….

i go to em, purely for the gt85 as mentioned.
oh, tubes and questionable tyres as also mentioned.

clicky[/url] This site is surprisingly useful for spotting what conditions across scotland are doing actually…
Obviously it's a bit useless at night, and the cams often don't play ball, but for general spying on weather it's ace.
I daresay there's a similar one for south of the border too.

an awfy nice autumn day in the pentlands.
there is a fence and a stick and a bike leaning, but it's not really about the bike…

Just as well google sees all, as i'm not honourable in any way, nor familiar with any advanced handshake techniques.

I did make it up on saturday before the hills were washed away though, and found myself in a nice mint sauce moment..

Does anyone have anything resembling a named trail map for the pentlands?
I ride em regularly, and know lots of trails, but have no idea what they are called.
