i got a very clean used kinesis decade virsa on a popular auction website.
    cost about £60 delivered.
haven’t built it up or indeed ridden it yet, but it’s a nice looking frame!

as said, open up the holes – drill the back of them out so the sleeve fits in, and leaves the wee lip sitting on the brake bridge/fork crown.
i did it to a pair of old steel raleigh forks to fit modern calipers and it worked fine.

    edit: like in here http://johns-recycled-bicycle.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/1986-schwinn-prelude-restoration.html

Anyway, I think there is a strong case to say all road users should have some form of registration/recognition.

Pedestrians should all wear numberplates then? They are road users too after all.

    depends.
    is it for enduro?

I drove down to Glen Tress from Edinburgh one day with my bike, and discovered after having got changed and so on that there appeared to be no front wheel in the car.
I’d cleverly left it leaning against the nearside of the car while I was loading stuff, and even more cleverly, managed to manoeuvre out of the space and drive away without going over the wheel.
On phoning home, I asked my girlfriend to look out of the flat window. Needless to say, and very fortunately, the wheel was still lying undamaged in the middle of the road.
As I had a good rage on I thought it best to drive all the way home, then back to Glen Tress and eventually managed to do an angry lap.
All made worse by the weather going from good to crap, and driving an oldish Land Rover which was totally useless for impatient angry A road driving.
    Idiot.

Hart’s Cyclery in edinburgh occasionaly have XL Konas in the shop (111 and 153 i think) as the shop sponsors a Kona grassroots enduro racer. He’s quite tall.
I’ve had a sit on the 111 and it felt like a decent shape. I’m about 6ft 4..

do you mean the actual water of leith path, or the bit of cycle path that runs from canonmills to leith?
the latter is easy baw on a road bike, being tarmac.
from stocky b, you can find your way round the botanics via inverleith park, depending on where you are, then there are a couple of ways onto it from inverleith row.

Aye, I’m familiar with the event, just wondered if anyone knew any specifics of the route, or the ‘purpose built’ sections of it.

Or indeed if anyone on here might be participating.

kids schmids. big estates are ace.

have a wee alpina b3 that broke 2 gearboxes, did about 18 mpg, was useless for carrying bikes (but still just about fitted 3 bikes and folk in). went quite fast though:

    looks ace anyway.

    nice.
had one too – same colour and age – and tended to just sling bikes in the back. they are surprisingly spacious for a wee car.
re. the ebay one – doesn’t look like you’d be able to get in the boot without removing it, which might be a bit annoying.
a friend had a similarish one and although basic it did the job. just have to make sure it’s fitted properly and bikes are well tied on.
or they’ll be off on the first bend..

i’m very interested to see what it’s like.

try ‘pedals’ in edinburgh. they sell stuff through pinkbike i think.
a medium i know, but for example:

    It is sad.

They did have a decent selection of bikes, but other stock was a bit lacking, unless you happened to get a tour of the basement and cellars, which were amazing. Assuming you appreciate heaps of NOS bits and bobs from the last 30 years. Which I do.

I know they hadn’t been a Raleigh dealer for a while, but there is now a new bike shop that deals with Raleigh in Corstorphine. They seem to have got their act together, in terms of road bikes at least, and have a lot of decent looking new products.

At the time, your hating it, sometimes even miserable. Yet, get back to civilisation, have a hot bath, some good grub and a pint, and quickly, you start to remember the good bits, and do so for years afterwards.

    this.

it was done as a wee adventure.
fair enough, there were sponsors etc, and i daresay they could have found more exciting mtb trails, but getting lost/eaten by midges/stuck in a bog/arriving home late/and most of all having some memorable fun is exactly what happens when you go exploring, even if it is only a few miles away from your van and the road.
    ace.

chromoplastics defos shouldn’t take more than half an hour for a bike with proper eyelets and so on.
if you can be bothered (and admittedly this adds a modicum of faffage), ditch the daft brake bridge bracket on the rear guard.
drill a couple of wee holes then use cable ties to attach it properly.
this makes em completely rattle free and cobble proof.

It takes a spectacular leap of logic to blame this on Strava.

    this.

as has been said, this problem has been around since long before strava.
is the stretch of path even a strava segment? it’s unlit and unsurfaced after all. not very appealing for your typical bike path TT segment chaser i’d have thought.
from what I can tell they struggle enough with decent well lit tarmac. they’d get their posh tubs all in a twist.

I live round the corner from it, and cycled past the end of this bit of path last night. If I had gone along and been nicely garrotted, I doubt I’d have immediately blamed it on those pesky strava kids.

the adaptors in my switch hub just pop out with very little effort.
think they are held in by an 0-ring that sits in a groove.

we were up at the end of last summer when it was really wet and really windy, and before any chicken wire was added. the paint was wearing off in lots of places too.
it was pretty exciting – couldn't slow down cos of the wind, the wood was really slippery, and it was too slidy/windy to let go of the brakes and let the bike roll – even on the bits with paint.
the rocky bits and other bits off the wood were ace and grippy mind.
