the only real specialist bike tool you really need is a BB adapter or wrench and chain whip for the cassette. normal tools will suffice for everything else. Get your self a good multi tool too.

It’s really not hard and there are no real pitfalls you should encounter if you plan your assembly.

    have fun

I think thread pulling should be reactive, not pre-emptive otherwise it’s going to get to the point where there’ll be a sudden loss of contribution from people from myself and others I imagine.

I for one am sick of threads being pulled for this reason, among the fact that I was ‘warned’ the other week against swear avoidance – I self censored a swear word and got told off for it!

ask the debt collectors to prove their legal agency to the debtor, if they fail to provide it then tell them they have no reason to contact you regarding the matter and all subsequent communications should be in writing or you will contact the police for harrasment.

[pedant]They aren’t refferd to as RTA’s (Road Traffic Accidents) as this implies to laymen that no one is to blame. They are more correctly known as RTC’s (Road Traffic Collisions).[/pedant]

Partworns. I got some Goodyear ones for £35 each with only 1/4 less tread than an new one.

I wouldn’t buy waterproof ones. you ARE going to get wet feet by trail running (unless you run only when its not raining and on manicured trails with no boggy sections). Having a waterproof membrane retains this water and means your feet are much wetter for longer which inevitably leads to blisters. They also take longer to dry out between runs and are generally more expensive.

I just wanted to make sure that whatever I use, and I have no idea what that would be, I could plan a route on the PC and then load that in to the gizmo as opposed to doing it on the device itself.

Can you tell i am an absolute duffer……

you can do either with the SatMap – plan a route on memory map for instance and upload the route onto the device using the SatSync software that comes with the device or create a route on the device itself. The Satmap also comes with access to their online route planning software which is pretty good but you still have to use the satsync software to install it onto the device which is a bit of a pain. as far as using other versions of maps on the device itself goes, this is impossible as Ordnance survey have strict rules that means maps are not transferable between a Satmap and a Memory map adventurer for example.

The lakes is one of the wettest places in the UK and looking at the state of most highways after a couple harsh winters, I suspect that the baby’s bottom that is Walna Scar will soon get a bit weathered!

Meanwhile, there are some other excellent BW’s you can ride like Garburn Pass or High street.

Doyouspain.com is who I’ve used and never had any troubles. unless you plan to do some off roading where the undercarriage is likely to get damaged?! We managed to run a tyre off the rim but we managed to find a garage that put it back on for us for free! just make sure if you pay for the fuel to return it empty that it is indeed full before you set off!

In any case, a litre of diesel has more calories than a litre of petrol

so if I drink petrol instead as part of a calorie controlled diet, I’ll lose weight?

iTunes converts WMPs automatically if you set it up to do so on installation but I wouldn’t touch Itunes with another man’s dodah. I was a big fan of Winamp too and I liked Windows Media player for a while.

for my diesel mondeo with Fully synthetic oil I was quoted £96 for a basic service (this includes oil and filter, fuel filter change and check of gear box oil) and £125 for a full service (in addition to the above items they would change the air filter and pollen filter and check the brakes and steering fluid levels

I went to motorworld, got all the consumables and did the work of a full service for about £80. took me about 2 hrs and a few favours to get the oil filter cover off.

do it yourself. its not hard.

I don’t understand the apparent suggestion that ‘stupid people’ are fair game, and have only themselves to blame

I don’t believe this but I do think that if you don’t take precautions agaisnt cowboys you ARE going to get fleeced. it’s the same if you go walking down the street waving your Iphone and money about – you are going to get mugged and it’s up to you to make sure you’re not an easy target to the crims out there.

there are unscrupulous tradesmen out there but there are, in equal measure, people who are just too trusting.

you’d be better to build one up with second hand parts with that budget. spend a fair whack on the frame and forks and get some cheapish components. much more satisfying than spending your money in a shop!

I am aware of the stress involved but I think the property is too good to walk away from just yet. nothing is binding until contracts have been exchanged so we really don’t have much to lose by putting in an offer. There are plenty of other properties, I know, and we are prepared for the dissapointment but we would rather have a go knowing we put our best foot forward rather than resenting not having done so – we may just win but I know the odds are against that outcome but we’ll see.

PDF’s weren’t designed to be read/writable and trying to convert one is a PITA. that said I found Open Office’s writer with a PDF add-on to be about the best.

    highclimber

Possibly, but why would the agent be proposing a sealed bid process, if they thought your offer was the best they could get?

because it’s easier for them (the EA). it’s fairer so long as there aren’t any underhand tactics from the EA which seems to be the biggest issue with sealed bids from what I have read!

thanks for your advice but we aren’t losing anything by putting in an offer and to walk away because there might be someone with a better offer/in a better position is foolish IMO

Unless you are a cash buyer, or have the mortgage already signed, sealed and delivered, then forget about it. There will be someone else in a better position with cash ready

That’s a little too pessimistic. we are still putting an offer in as I beleive we are in a good position (first time buyer, no chain, funds agreed in principle)

The best way is to detach yourself emotionally and assume you’ve lost it, then if you do get it, you’ll be happy

you mean be pessimistic? Already there mate – its the only way to be! esp. where property is concerned.

i’m more annoyed at the EA not keeping us informed when they said they would. I don’t trust them as far as I can throw them as they’ve hinted that one of the bidders has put in an offer close to 10k over the asking price!
